James Bond In Skyfall - Part 7

I agree with what others have said about this, but I'd also add that Bond is more or less supposed to be ageless. That's why it got too weird for me with Moore in OP and AVTAK.

Yeah, especially when Bond cooked a quiche for Ms. Sutton...

Eon screen tested actors for Bond in the 80's (e.g James Brolin for Octopussy), but still stuck with Roger (maybe he was cheap, I read that his contract included that he gets a supply of Montecristo cigars for each Bond film he did)

At least the recent producers had the guts to get Craig, since Bronsan was already ageing (he was 51 in DAD, while Rosamund Pike was 23), and he delayed filming for a few weeks during DAD due to a knee injury.

Same here. This my reaction to the whole scene.

Good thing they didn't actually have him do a sex scene. He wouldn't had made it through. :funny:

Roger almost sprained his eyebrow when she disrobed and tried to eat him. :csad:

Walken wasn't bad in it. He was definitely one of the more entertaining guys in it.

Oh him, Mayday and his Menglar-esque sidekick were a hoot! :D

Ah, AVTAK; Dear ol' Roger looked [and moved] like he was about 95 years of age there.

Same here. Though I thought Grace Jones was hilarious as MayDay. Especially when she bedded Bond. She had more muscles than Moore.

That she did - she actually looked like she was taking the steroids they were giving those horses. :woot: Anyways, for me, literally the only reason to watch AVTAK is for the seconds were you see Dolph Lundgren.

I would have totally sorted out Grace Jones in that film.

I think there's every chance that she would have sorted you out, Reg. If you know what I mean. ;)

And you wouldnt have had a say in it.

I would have faced it with composure, I'm sure.

Moore look like he should be reaching for his pipe and slippers in AVTAK. Miss Moneypenny looked too old for the role, too. Though she had been since Moonraker. Bless Lois Maxwell, she's still the definitive Moneypenny, but she stayed too long in the role.

With her and roger being around so long, it felt like the series was getting stale.

Roger in 1972 and lois since 1962

It was time for a change with dalton and a new moneypenny.

But then audiences hated the change

Finally watched OHMSS...why did Lazenby only do one movie?! He was awesome!

It's because Lazenby was being a dick and decided not to do another movie because he thought he would be an in demand Hollywood star. That went well. :whatever:

I think people are too harsh on him. He is the weakest of all the Bonds and keeps it from being the number one movie, but OHMSS is still great movie.

People didn't like him much at the time. I suppose Sir Sean was a hard act to follow. All of the Bonds deserve a fair appraisal, really.

That's true too. Despite it being much, much more better received today, OHMSS made significantly less than You Only Live Twice, making almost $200 million less adjusted

Damn, I need to rewatch YOLT. It's been a while. It may have been my first Conney Bond film.

My first Bond film was either LALD or the end of TSWLM.

You Only Live Twice was the first Bond film I watched. I was 5 and it was on tv. I was excited by seeing Ninjas and it was the first time I saw Japan.

They were going to replace Moore, but they chickened out when they found out about Never Say Never Again. They didn't want a new Bond going up against Sean Connery.

A lot of people hate You Only Live Twice, but I think it is one of the better entries. Certainly a top ten Bond flick in my opinion, and I actually like it better than Dr. No.

My main problem with it is that it slows down a lot between the Little Nellie scene and when Bond goes into the volcano, but the remainder outside of that stretch is great.

It is one of the better Bond movies (and it's not a bad movie), but it also marked the point where the movies got a bit too silly and over-the-top. Bond trying to be Japanese, the Volcano lair, the look of Blofeld, etc. It really marked the point where it got ridiculous.

They tried to ground it back in reality with OHMSS, but EON thought they needed to get back to the ridiculous with Connery in DAF.

YOLT is an epic movie but it was too excessive IMO. The silliness and absurdity had been turned all the way up and yet, interestingly enough, it's the most parodied Bond film and spy film of all time.

It isn't really that more ridiculous than Goldfinger and Thunderball, I don't think. It fits in more with them than the DAF to AVTAK stretch.

Also, I think TSWLM (Gilbert's next Bond movie) did a lot of things that YOLT was going for better, such as having an epic scale Bond movie with action and over-the-top feel without falling into silliness.

It really is more ridiculous, though it does fit in more with those movies even though I'd say it's half and half otherwise. Like Ajendo said, it's the most parodied spy movie of all time. Many things are parodied about it in spy parodies, like Island locations, elaborate laboratories, meshing usually out of place elements (like ninjas in YOLT), and most famously, Blofeld himself.

I'll agree that TSWLM is better. It is my second favorite of all the Bond films, behind Goldfinger, but I disagree that it is more serious. TSWLM is quite silly, it just does it much better than a film like Moonraker. It is cool instead of stupid.

Yeah, that's a better word. TSWLM just does things more in a way that you can take it more seriously than YOLT.

With Moonraker, the problem was the villain and the mess of the first hour leading up to the space part. I didn't buy Hugo Drax's idea because the actor wasn't as good as Stromberg. Stromberg I bought in TSWLM because he came off a legitimately insane. Drax came off as more a joke.
