James Bond In Skyfall - Part 7

Yeah, it's not so much the underwater battle as these rather slow parts where he's just exploring, and of course because they took the trouble to film underwater, they wanted to show as much of it off as possible because it was a relative novelty back then.

Yeah the exploring parts I can understand a bit more, but I still like how they take their time and they still hold up in being impressive even without the novelty-factor. I wish more action-films nowadays had pacing like the likes of Thunderball.

I definitely don't. My problem with Thunderball was that they were taking their time to show off, showing miniscule stuff that could have been done in a few cuts instead of one long cut. And it's not like they were exploring the waters or cut away to some more interesting underwater stuff. It was just long shots of them putting away the missle.

Like I said, I think Thunderball is one of the worse paced Bond movies.

If you want a better example of a Bond movie that takes it's time and has great pacing (in my opinion, of course), On Her Majesty's Secret Service is much better at it.

Well, the pacing of those shots is like 2001: A Space Oddyssey, or Star Trek: The Slow Motion Picture. With Star Trek, there were these prolonged shots showing the entire Enterprise (which they had built as a proper scaled model as opposed to just part of it like the series) while Kirk was travelling to it, or these shots of it moving through space or Spock doing some exploring in space of his own. Nowadays, despite having some great models of these Starfleet ships, they don't spend lots of time just showing it off. The audience can see it anyway throughout the film.

It's the same with Thunderball. They could've cut those shots more tightly and quickly and people would've still seen some of it, while other parts were unnecessary and just made the scene drag.

I think Sony realised this for Never Say Never Again, which is why it cut down on extensive underwater shots, which is one of the things they improved upon for that movie, even though the rest of Thunderball is superior.

Personally I loved the slower pace of the underwater scenes, even if it was just them getting the most out of their crisp photography and advancement.

I love Laz and OHMSS. Firstly, it's one of the better adaptations. Secondly, Laz is a fellow Kyokushin Karateka so I go to always support him.

Me too. The slower pace emulates the slower movement underwater.

Remember that stuff from a few months ago about Danny Boyle and Craig shooting an sequence for the opening of the London Olympics which would merge seamlessly with Craig appearing live as 007 at the venue?

The Sunday People is today reporting that Craig will drop in (live) into the venue on a rope ladder. EDIT: The Mirror saying it too:-

Okay. In what sense do you 'support' him, then? He appears in the movie we're discussing as a contracted actor. If you don't think he is a very good one, then what's left to support?

I support him in all endevours. His life isnt just acting, he's stuill very active in the Kyokushin community (not as much as Dolph, but he's still active). Not two years ago I attended a seminar/grading where he took part.

But he did admit he likes him in OHMSS. I like him too. His acting in my opinion keeps it from being the best one, but he still does fine in the role. He did handled several scenes very well.

And all of those examples were to show off the technology, which certainly does seem cool at time and amazes people, but down the line when movies get older and better technology gets released that makes it pale in comparison, it gets annoyingly dull and boring. Thunderball's underwater scenes brings the movie down for me a lot because it becomes a chore to sit through. That's why I usually fast forward when I watch them.

I just finished Bloodstone a great game by the way. The gameplay much better then QOS game. Driving a bit annoyng (on a PS3 contoller sometimes) I thought Joss Stone did a great Bond song - hence EON should get her for Skyfall.

The only underwater scene in Thunderball that I thought dragged was when they were stealing the missiles. It worked, but it went on too long. I had no problem with the rest, especially the big final fight which was one of the best in the series of that type along with the ninja fight in YOLT, the freighter fight in TSWLM, and the space fight in Moonraker.

I'll second this

New production video about costume design.

Man, you've got to watch this one. Some excellent footage to be had. I'll describe just a few: Craig in full tuxedo Bond mode inside the casino, beautiful shot of Bond and Severine on the deck looking across the ocean and Bond and M in what looks to be a warehouse type interior with the DB5.

I have to say that Live and Let Die's boat chase dragged a bit too long, even though that was an action scene. It began to get dull after a while too. Some of it wasn't even scored and was like filming some home video footage of someone sailing and then subjecting others to it later. It's interesting to the person who did the sailing, but to those not involved, tons of unedited footage is just tedious.

Am I right in saying that DC is about 5'10"? If so, one of those suits would fit me. I wonder how much the studio would ask.

Some people list him at 6', but I don't think he's that. But since most people tend to add a few inches to their official height, then I wonder if at his most frequent stat of 5'10", that means he's only 5'8"? :woot:

CelebHeights says 5'10.25", and it's usually a reliable source.
