The Amazing Spider-Man Jamie Foxx IS Electro

Let it be known that The Last Son was in support of this casting choice from day 1.

I don't think the casting is a definite yet, but I'm cool with it. It's long past time since Jamie got to be a villain.

On a side note, about the running conversation about black superheroes with electrical powers, it does seem to me to be a 'black' power (lol).

Some have already been mentioned but off the top of my head, I thought of:
Storm
Black Lightning
Black Vulcan
Static
Lightning (Black Lightning's daughter)
Volt (from the Irredeemable comics; even the character jokes about black superheroes and electrical powers)

You seem pretty obsessed with his looks. Which roles did he "waste"?

Django could've been a black icon up there with Shaft instead we get the cross dresser from In Living Color.

Now he's infecting the ASM trilogy.

Unbelievable.

Some role he fits, like a cowardly taxi driver, but when tries to play anything remotely badass it's an instant fail.

So you believe he "wasted" a role in a movie that hasn't even been released yet? Based on what? The previews and your personal dislike of him?

I'll just say I've never seen a film with him in it where I've said, "This movie would be so much better if someone other than Jamie Foxx was in this role." Three of his roles (Ali, Collateral, Ray) are unarguably award-worthy. I think it says a lot about the Spider-Man franchise that actors of that caliber want to be in it. Guys like Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, and (perhaps) Foxx bring an additional quality to the films. And as a fan of the Spider-Man movies, I think that's awesome.

Is it me or does Messiah seem borderline racist towards Foxx? A goomba, really?

You obviously didn't read what I wrote.

and how is calling him a goomba racist?

Jamie Foxx's head, eys and face remind me of a goomba. That description wouldn't fit just any black actor.

The only one I, and I'd be willing to bet the general audience too, recognise. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Infecting the TAS-M trilogy?

:lmao:

The trilogy was already infected by factors with the first film. How about you give it a chance even if Foxx isn't your cup of tea as it wasn't even the acting itself that messed up the first film anyways.

Any term involving a creature or an animal is in bad taste when comparing to a black man, imo.

When I saw the casting news I immediately pictured Ultimate Electro.

I'm curious about the casting choice. I don't outright disagree with it, and I can kind of understand how Foxx could fit the characters' typical personality. I'm a little curious how closely they'll stick to that portrayal though.

Hmmm...different strokes, I guess. I see him as a quality actor. I thought he was very good in Ray, Collateral, Ali, The Kingdom, Jarhead, Dreamgirls, The Soloist, and he looks to be outstanding in Django. Very few misses, and a lot of his misses were just bad movies period.

You're not Jamie Foxx, are you?

That looks like something he would post.
those are great movies and most of them have critics respects and foxx has acted well in most of those and in Ray specifically he was amazing so it feels more like you are a hater rather than this guy being a jamie foxx lover...

So admittedly most of his greatest acting roles have been comedy club impersonations.

The guy is strictly a comedy act. I wish Hollywood would stop trying to make him the go-to black actor.

I'm not a Gosling fan to be honest.

To be honest, I'm not either. But I think he'd be well cast for a villain in the ASM universe. But I'd be open to many other options.

I'm not the only one who thinks ASM was a great start to a Spider-man trilogy.

In fact you're one of the few haters of ASM around these parts.

Regardless of what you think of Foxx or his past work, Django isn't even out yet so you can't say stuff like "Django could've been an icon but he's a parody". Not very objective and it ruins your argument.

He obviously didn't say he looks like a goomba because he's black so your response looked a bit off there.

But saying he's a goomba and with Foxx being a black man, it just sounds like something that I'd punch someone in the face for.

It's fine if you find it a great start, but I certainly don't and outside of "these parts" a lot of people feel the same way that I do.

I think I've only seen him in Collateral and Ray, and I loved him in both movies. He oughtta do well...

Come on now: LLG.

Long live Gosling

You shouldn't make that connection of goomba and black like that, why would him being black have anything to do with that? White people can look like a goomba to someone as well as much as any kind of guy can have a horse face or rabbit teeth. It's that "goomba? must be because he's black!" thing that I thought sounded more racist than his comment.

Oh wait a minute...

a goomba is that brown mushroom thing? I thought it was one of those turtles, which is why I found the connection so odd.

Oh well then I see what you mean. What the heck Messiah, I don't see the slightest how anyone can think he looks like a goomba :S

I can't even imagine Spidey being able to land a blow on Electro because of the deadly electricity. He'll need to web up his hands or invent something.
