Suck it Ledger!

I dont like those photorealistic edits, soon people will believe it's the real deal, and then they will be disapointed with the official one.

What do you guys think will be Leto's biggest challenge in the role? and how it will differ to what we've seen before etc?

Leto's biggest hurdle will be getting out from under Ledger's shadow, which will be considerably more difficult for Leto than it was for Ledger when Ledger had to get out of Nicholson's shadow. Ledger's performance won an Oscar: the only one to date for any acting category in a superhero film. There is also the mystique surrounding Ledger's partial descent into madness so that he could take on the role. There is a bit of darkness there that continues to fascinate people whom associate Ledger's performance with his death.

All of those perceptions are quite a bit to tackle compared to simply inheriting a role in which the previous actor was well received. Even if Leto wows audiences with his take on the character, it is unlikely to win an Oscar, and that will be a lingering cloud over his performance, no matter how strong. Honestly, Jared Leto deserves kudos for being so brave at this point in his career.

All that "Ledger's madness in becoming The Joker killed him" crap was just BS invented whole-cloth by the gutter tabloids. Ledger himself talked about how it was the most fun he'd ever had playing a role, and the people on set talked about him being professional and taking the part seriously, but also having fun with the cast and crew... nothing dark or traumatising to suggest a downward spiral.

I really hate whenever anyone says that or insinuates as much.

Lucky for Leto he already has an Oscar so he doesn't have to win one for playing the Joker.

Please Ayer post the promo image so we aren't back to that pointless debate again

Hence why I said "mystique." More pointedly, it is also why I explicitly stated "there is a bit of darkness there that continues to fascinate people whom associate Ledger's performance with his death."

I did not suggest that Ledger's death actually had anything to do with playing the Joker, but merely that people's perceptions are such that the association exists.

I didn't think you were suggesting that, Arach Knight. Just you bringing it up reminded me of how much I hate it when people do.

Letos best bet to get out from under Heaths shadow would be doing the same thing that Heath did: Take the character in a direction not yet seen on camera. People have been wanting a comicbook or cartoon accurate Joker for a while now and Leto has the face for it.

That selfish bastard Leto better have donated his beard to science.
