Jared Leto IS The Joker - - Part 11

Joker a sex symbol? I'm not a lady, but I just don't see it.

Unless women are into this style these days. In that case, let me whip out my crocodile leather coat.

Go watch some reactions to the trailer. There was a lot of gurls who dropped their panties once he shows up. Believe that.

Here's the thing... I keep seeing posters state they aren't on board with the look but think that they will dig the performance of Leto and that they trust him with that part of bringing the character to life. But... I don't know if you really can separate the character from the look for this reason... I am pretty sure Leto was HEAVILY involved in the look. I don't think he just arrived on set and Ayer told him, "Hi Jared, oh by the way your Joker has metal teeth and tattoos. Now DANCE, MONKEY, DANCE!"

I think Ayer and Leto worked with the costume and makeup people to get to this look and as such, it is an extension of Leto's performance of the character as guided by Ayer. I think validating the performance (after we all see the film, and if someone actually ends up really enjoying Leto's Joker) is in fact somewhat validating the look Leto and Ayer went for, just as rejecting the look is in some ways rejecting Leto's take on the character.

Jared's got a bit of everything.

Yeah, dude. It was a crazy time. And I forgot the most controversial topic of all -- Heath Ledger's casting. That was the biggest "WTF" moment for me and many others. I remember being legitimately pissed off at the casting announcement because, for the life of me, I couldn't "see" it at all. Then the reveal of his appearance and the fact that he wouldn't be perma-white was also a pretty shocking blow. Eventually, I become completely sold on it and, of course, he blew me away in the movie.

In comparison, Leto's casting was pretty much accepted and welcomed from the get-go. And even now, the overall reaction to his "controversial" appearance is much more time and certainly less divisive.

I've never seen an explosion on here like I did with the Heath casting. Though I wasn't on here back in the days of organics vs. mechs. But then, no other SuperHero film has ever approached the hype TDK had. SM3 was close, but TDK outdid it.

But man, people really did flip out over Heath. Which I can understand. I wasn't against it when he was announced, I was mostly just perplexed and curious. He was so far out there, he wasn't even blip on the radar. It was such an unexpected move. And the design of the Joker was so different from anything I expected. Though once in action, I saw how it really did work.

I think that's my issue with Leto and his look. I can see what they're going for, but I already know that I'm just not a big fan of the aesthetic. And I feel like it's just not needed. It's trying to be edgy and coming off cliched. With Heath, I had no idea what exactly they were going for. And his portrayal was nothing I expected, but it really fit with the look.

Though, again, the hubbub about the look of this Joker is nothing compared to what happened back in 07-08. And to be honest, while I'm not a huge fan of the design, it's a much smaller concern of mine in terms of things I'm worried about with the new Bat-filmverse.

It's like those against him on the internet forgot about that awesome trailer we had a couple of months ago surpassing 50m+ views on YouTube. :cmad:

I wasn't on these boards during the TDK times but I have a hard time imagining people actually detested that look. He didn't look like my version of my ideal Joker but he still looked like a Joker. Surprises me sometimes what people end up liking/hating.

Fanbase has a history of this. Michael Keaton took a lot of crap due to his height and the fact he was known for comedy roles. Ledger took a lot of crap for a number of reasons (gay cowboy, pretty boy, makeup vs. permawhite, Crow ripoff, etc.). Never seen a quicker 180 than when the December 2007 TDK trailer came out.

I'm curious to see what WB will choose to do with the Suicide Squad marketing. So far the Joker has played a pretty small role in terms of footage. Looking forward to seeing more in the future.

I wouldnt say he played a small part in footage we got, i mean he had the honor of closing out the trailer face to face with the audience.

"Heath Ledger?!? F*** YOU, NOLAN, HOW DARE YOU NOT CAST CRISPIN GLOVER?!"

I also like that we're going to see The Joker in different outfits throughout the film, versus the same suit all the way through. We've already seen him shirtless, in a straight jacket, with his purple leather jacket, button down shirt with suspenders and jacket (in the flashback with Quinzel by his car), and also in a white suit jacket in the flashback with Batman attacking his ride.

He might even have one or two more looks that could evoke the more classic look by the end of the film, for all we know, but I like the variation thus far.

You know what's annoying about all of those outfits though? HE HAS HIS FRIGEN SHIRT UNBUTTONED!

Oh Gawd.... his bare chest, NOT HIS BARE CHEST!!!!!!1!!!1!!

It's really not that annoying, at least not for me.

Does it make you...feel things that you don't understand?

It's just such a small thing yet it's so annoying, just button up yo damn shirt man!

Maybe Batman can show him some manners with his hammers of justice. :o

That doesn't really mean much in terms of what people think. It just means people are watching it a lot. I watched it a few times, I still don't particularly like the design. SM3's trailer had tons of views, but a lot of people were complaining about the look of the symbiote suit. (And once the film came out, lots of other things).

No one is denying the film has a lot of interest and public attention. People are definitely excited and looking forward to it, but high public attention does not mean everyone loves the look of the Joker. It just means people are looking at it. And if the Internet has taught me anything, people love to look at things they don't like...for some strange reason.

This is awesome.

I don't dislike it really. I just think it won't age well.

i actually think its so off the wall it might be a bit timeless. joker could wear this in a batman beyond adaptation and it would still fit.

Did you watch The Dark Knight and scream "Wash your clothes, man! And your hair too!"

Yeah...but that was aimed at my girlfriend, right before she took a razor to my mouth. Horrible night :D
