Basically. I hated Nolan's version the first couple times but later saw how it was actually faithful to the comic persona.

I didn't hate it, but was kinda Meh towards till later on like you as well.

I was also kinda slow on appreciation of Ledger. I watched the movie dubbed in Russian, Joker didn't sound and talk as great in the original language. Maybe half a year passed when I was able to get my copy of the movie to watch it properly. It really began to shine for me.

Funny thing about Luthor in BvS. Russian voice actor made Lex better and less irritating, than he is in the original movie.

I like Ledger's Joker as an interesting departure from the comicbook character. A great performance, too.

Ohh no so now fanboys don't like Ledger's Joker.

Right, guys?

But that's something what happened with Bale's Batman, Tobey's Spidey etc. so no surprise or dissapointment.

Ledger's Joker was accurate to the comics. I am surprised when people say he wasn't.

Makes me think some people never read The Killing Joke...

Tbh I never really like Bale's Batman. Well Nolan's really. Bruce Wayne himself was cool. But apart from a few moments I thought he was lame.

I don't know about Spider-Man. Upon TASM's release, people were bashing Tobey and the Raimi films quite heavily. But upon TASM2's failure, the love for Tobey and Raimi's films returned.

I hate indecisive, bandwagon-hopping fanboys!

TASM as far as I'm concerned never happened. Tobey is still my Spiderman, but Tom Holland was very good in CA3-CW. Frankly those first 2 Spidey movies are probably in my top 10 comic book movies of all time.

My favorite line as well. Ledger's Joker was very funny in the best possible way.

Absolutely. Perfect blend of psycho and dark humor.

Indeed;

The only good thing about the TASM franchise is it was so bad it helped us get Spidey into the MCU.

Did you write that? That is very good and well written, with lots of great examples. I remember writing a post here before, listing a lot of things from Ledger's Joker that were taken from the comics, but that blog provided much more examples than what I gave. It really shows that Nolan and co did their research when it came to the Joker, as well the person who wrote that blog piece, of course.

I did. And thank you. It was a labor of love. I do add to it from time to time if I happen to come across other similarities that I've missed.

WOW that was incredibly entertaining. I knew Nolan drew parallels and Easter eggs to joker with Heath but I had no idea how many!

You have revitalized my love for his adaptation, I'm gonna break out my bluray after work

Thank you. I'm pleased you enjoyed it

But will you consider the movie a failure, if it will be a good movie, but not the best Batman movie ever?

Wouldn't consider it a failure if it doesn't exceed expectations..
there can only be 1 best ever...
That doesnt mean that the gap from "best ever" to the "best of the rest" has to be gigantic...

I would venture to say Ledger was the most faithful Joker second to only Hamill. They put so much effort into Ledger’s Joker to make him like the character while still keeping him unique.

I'm looking forward to Leto's take on Joker, but the idea that it'll be better than Ledger's is a little bit silly, when you think long and hard about it. Leto is playing the character in a full blown comic adaptation with all the inherent trappings of that kind of movie. It will be big, bold and crazy, and will probably do a decent job of depicting the broad strokes, larger than life comic book villain we all know and love. It's likely to be good - but not all that subtle.

Ledger played a ****ing psychopath. A psychopath in a grounded universe, directed by a man who knows how to draw out characterisations in an expert fashion. It was an utterly believable performance. The Joker in the real world.

Go watch TDK again. Watch Ledger's speech patterns, his physical tics, his eyes... Think about just how much he disappeared into that role, and was 100% convincing in every second he was on screen. It's one of the greatest villain performances in history, in any movie, in any genre. It's a cultural touchstone.

Leto will be Jared Leto in a cool costume playing a tattooed laughing lunatic. And that's fine, but it won't compare to what Ledger did IMO. That was a once in a generation performance.

Not really interested in participating in battles who will be better. This Joker was tailored for a specific story. It's not Nicholson, it's not Ledger. From what I saw, Leto completely disappeared in the role. I don't see Leto just like I didn't see Ledger. I see Joker.
