Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - Part 14

It's a fascinating case study. WB most likely was afraid to put out a product that was too dark (after the backlash), but in the process they forgot what this movie was about AND that a movie can be dark as long as it's GOOD. They broke the movie trying to fix it. I'd love to be a fly on the wall at WB because their decisions are baffling.

If the movie had been budgeted closer to Deadpool, they wouldn't have interfered.

All the positive reactions to the trailers got them giddy for money despite Deadpool being R-rated. They probably saw a chance to beat Fox's movie by having it be PG-13 and chopped it to pieces.

That seems to be the continuing problem with all their movies. They keep making reactionary decisions to what is going on around them instead of asking what they actually want.

SupReturns got us MOS
Marvel tone got us BvS
GoTG tone got us Suicide Squad tone.

Wonder Woman might escape it just cause they're actually leading Marvel/Fox in this one.

This should've been rated R with a budget of 120 million max. It should've used Joker properly and not some cgi hack job villain. They get Ayer on board but instead of letting him do what he does, they give him 200 million and a load of notes and stipulations. Stupid business model.

:hehe: The Rams analogy is pretty adept. Especially when you consider they cling to the past. The game has long passed Fisher's offensive and defensive philosophy by. And rather than adapt, he continues to try run heavy, smash mouth football. But rather than fire him, the ownership slaps some new cosmetic paint on the team, moving them to LA, and hopes for different results.

Its no different here. We don't need the "dark and gritty" superhero movie. We don't need the "real world" superhero movie. That is a myth Bryan Singer convinced all of us of back in 2000 because he lacked the creativity to make a proper spectacle of an X-Men movie that embraced the fantasy and indulged the audience's imagination. It is a dated worldview.

The Avengers has proven that people are willing to go all in on optimistic, hopeful superheroes. You can have fun without being campy. You can have bright colors without being cheesy. The audience, as shown by Civil War, is willing to both have fun and address tough moral/philosophical questions. A movie doesn't have to be bogged down in its own self-loathing. The world is not so cynical that a Superman, who properly represents the hope and inspiration of the character would fail. To the contrary, Captain America succeeded. Superman could too.

But Warners, like the Rams, just cannot get past this dated Bryan Singer-esque mindset.

Yes! Brilliant. So true. I'm not against going dark and realistic with certain superheroes (Marvel has done this with its Netflix shows and it really works). But characters like Superman and Wonder Woman, and yes, even Batman if we're going with the high-tech, comic book version, can be a bit more colorful. Marvel has succeeded because they embraced that fantastical aspects of these characters. I wish to God WB would do it to, but they'll probably just keep shoehorning Batman into everything (and not even a good version... the Affleck version, which everyone thinks is good because he was the least sucky part of a sh** movie).

I have seen a lot reviews that praises Leto's performance and actually wishing him to be main villain.

I'll judge after seeing it. Method acting doesn't mean ----. It's kinda annoying how it gets publicity.

I'm not saying anything about the quality of the performance. I just find the article to be funny. Leto, no matter how good he is in this movie, was pretty damn obnoxious with the whole "look at me everyone, I'm method acting!" nonsense.

This is all I heard today. That he is good but underused.

Honestly what is up with this Leto prejudice in media...yeah he says and does weird things but this is why I like him - one of the many reasons why - it's funny :funny: he is a hugely talented actor who says stuff a completely talentless actor would say. He chooses interesting parts in interesting movies. He was in some of my favs - American Psycho, Fight Club etc. The guy is committed, has charisma and talent and one of the most deserved Oscars in recent years. I have no doubt he is good and I don't think they could have found someone better for this part

Yeah. If everything is not called brilliant they are obviously biased.

I think its because he is so damn obnoxious. He is one of those people who repeatedly says "I don't care what people think about me" while also screaming "HEY EVERYONE! LOOK AT ME!"

Well it's true :funny: But I still like him and boy has his outfits gave me much needed laughter this week

I wouldn't even go that high. No one except Croc, Enchantress, and Diablo really need effects. And none of those effects are anything not seen on the CW.

Also any movie with a light pulsating into the sky as a beam must be bad.

You guys are ignoring the biggest budget drain of all: Will Smith. He got a 20 million dollar paycheck for Suicide Squad and probably a cut of the profit. Aside from his salary upping the budget, that profit cut is going to make it all the more harder to recoup losses.

Why Warners thought that this movie needed Will Smith is absolutely beyond me.

To be fair tho Will seems to be one of the highlights of the movie. Hell for me he deserves that cut for being so good promoting the film

Where, specifically? The interviews I've seen from this week he was actually downplaying it, noting he did what he needed for his process.

The hype from the past year or so was from his castmates, so he's hardly to blame.

He did bring Fallon a snake this week :funny:

All that method acting for pieces of a character we never see at all in the film.

All in good fun though. I'm not seeing where this smugness is coming from. I've certainly heard of Leto's unsavory behavior off-set, but nothing in particular to this project.

Honestly he was bad. Like some emo kid who only cares about his girlfriend. I'm not even sure if he was the real Joker. No joke.

And that critic who said Leto's Joker is like Tony Montana if he was played by Jim Carrey was spot on, to be honest.

I'm seeing it again on Sunday and I'm not looking forward to seeing Leto's performance again to be honest :oldrazz:

There is also lots of reviews of his performance that were "meh" or negative. Response to his Joker is mixed at best.

Considering the screen-time, I do agree that before we can make any comparisons or fully gauge Leto's Joker he'll have to have a more full role.

Like that solo Batman movie coming up. :woot:

jared leto did a great job, maybe he was too overacting at some moments ,specially in that club Scene with common charachter ,but he was scary ,menacing, disturbing just like the Joker is supposed to be

he definitely need more screen times & deserve to be on more films , maybe the next batman ,
if they decide to drop a extended cut ,with more scene ,that would be great
