Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - Part 15

I actually prefer Ayer's politeness over Leto's rudeness. Leto shouldn't be so negatively outspoken the week your movie opens. I get an actor being annoyed that their scenes are cut, but when you have the director who was the guy who got ****ed the most keeping quiet and polite, the actor doesn't have that right. Leto is just coming off as a pouting brat. Don't throw things under the bus like that.

You bring up a good point, but he's human after all. He has a right to be upset, and he still kept it diplomatic. Yes, he mentioned that a lot was cut but he didn't outright lambaste the filmmakers or the studio. He talked around it a bit. Also, the interviewer DIRECTLY asked him about the cut scenes.

I must be the only one not bothered by it. loved the joker and of course wanted to see more but it was well known he wasn't a main character and didn't have a ton of screen time. Marketing aside we all knew it.

It doesn't help Leto is an ******* in general. Leto before the movie came out just came off as full of himself and I thought that this performance would just be him full of himself. He just acts like he's on a higher plane than anyone else at times. Leto's a great actor and still great casting, and I even saw the Joker there in the trailers at times, but but from what I hear and other things I saw, it looks like the trailer really did a great job of highlighting moments without context. It seems he just bought into his own hype and didn't have the right director to guide him to a point to something great. It kind of looks Leto had carte blanche with this. Worked for Ledger, not to much for Leto. It also helped Ledger had Nolan.

So you saw the movie, or no?

Maybe Leto is so pissed that he's trying to get out of his contract. I could see it happening. A lot of critics and fans are ripping his performance (as we knew some would no matter what... for example, Devin Faraci LITERALLY "thanked" WB for casting Leto as the Joker because it meant he would never show up in a Marvel film). And the film itself was panned. And now, his contact mandates that he appears in one or two other films that might also be panned. Maybe he just wants out.

I hate when they make dark and disturbing movies more kid friendly because parents are irresponsible.

Eh, that's not really their logic. The problem is *responsible* parents. . . in the sense that WB assumes a dark, disturbing movie is one parents will not go to with their kids. WB doesn't want parents to leave their kids home, they want them to go and bring everyone.

And they are right to do so, for big blockbuster movie releases. A movie with $150+ budget needs all four quadrants. The problem is that, Suicide Squad *should not be that movie*. It really needs to be dark and violent and morally dubious, and so needs an appropriately smaller budget ( even if its PG-13, it should be a much harder PG-13 where parents probably won't bring their ten year old kids ).

I'd hate for it to happen but he literally doesn't need this gig at all. He is mostly focusing on his music these days, their new album is out next year and this was the first movie he made since his Oscar winning performance 3 years ago. He has some movies in work though, so I guess he is not retiring completely and I don't think he would like for his Joker to end like this - he would like a chance to make it right, I think.

Have to say I like this theory from Reddit:

I think in the intended cut, Harley is hurt by Joker when he pushes her out the helicopter (which would make more sense that she's heartbroken when she removes her Puddin collar. If she were mourning Mr. J, she wouldn't throw that away like she did.) When Joker arrives again to take her away during the Enchantress battle, she chooses to stay with the Squad because again, she's emotional and angry at him. But in the end...like in the comics, she always comes back to her true emotions of wanting to be with Mr. J, which is what that ending was all about.

Imagine if during that stairwell scene when Harley dazes out and thinks about her "chemical bath". What if in that scene, she thought about her chasing down Joker on her bike, pointing a gun at him and all that (the infamous missing scene we all have seen being filmed). What if that was put into that scene, and the chemical bath scene was placed after Harley was pushed out the Helicopter and sitting on the car looking at the Puddin collar. Would have made a great contrast to the differences. Joker pushing her out to die vs her falling into the chemicals out of love.

Margot played this scene as Harley
mourning Joker's death. I don't see her acting as Harley is hurt and angry at all here

well know soon enough as the novelization follows the original script and not the edited version that ended up in theaters.

One guy told me it doesn't include that Joker slapping Harley scene so...

He doesn't need it, but he signed a multi-picture contract and reportedly had a lot of fun being the Joker.

He was too mobster-ish, versus the crazy, yet intelligent criminal he usually is. But even that wouldn't have thrown me off if not for his outright love for Harley Quinn. Joker has never been in love with Harley, she has always been a means to an end. He uses her and dumps her and her love for him always brings her back. Here, Joker is shown to be in love back with her, always on the mission to break her out, even showing jealousy when others look at her. Joker loves one person: Batman. Sure it's complicated love, but it's pretty clear in all other media. And so, this Joker does not work for me.

Hear hear

This really was a truly horrific Joker. Can't believe they got it so wrong.

They already screwed up Lex Luthor. That's the two biggest DC villains they made a balls up of this year.

Leto joker was meh, the alleged joker cut scene didn't help either. At times he seemed like he was overreacting and forcing it.

That was one of the problems. Too much forcing it, trying to over emphasize how crazy this Joker is. Then they tell us Harley is more crazy and fearless than he is. Which is easy to believe in comparison to this neutered love sick puppy Joker.

Yep, a Joker that isn't funny isn't the Joker. Heath had a sadistic humour but it was definitely there and an integral part of his performance.

The Pencil trick, wanting his ''phone call", "I kill the bus driver", "Let's not blow this out of proportion", "Very poor choice of words" all funny moments, dark but funny.

Hamill really played up the humour in the Animated Series and the Arkhamverse and at times he was legitimately hilarious, but the extreme danger was always there. Though his jokes split sides, the knife up his sleeve slit throats.

I didn't see the humour in Leto's performance. Maybe because most of his scenes were cut, but it wasn't there in the theatrical cut.

Humor, dark or camp or both, is an integral part of his character.

Honestly for one of the scenes
where Harley dreams of a perfect life where she is married to the Joker with children,
, I would have enjoyed it, if the scene looked more like Joker and Harley(either older versions of their classic/TAS look or older versions of the Suicide Squad, instead of the actors similar to this

That is a slightly missed opportunity, to show even if they desired a normal life, she still loves and appreciates the turn her life took.

That was one of the worst scenes in the movie, because it implies Harley would rather he be normal, instead of just loving him as the freaky clown he is, and imagining a married life where their craziness translates into a crazy looking marriage with screwed up looking kids, and living in a kooky Joker like house.

Sure but the way he was treated I think trumps the fact he had fun. He looks so miserable talking about the movie now. And there is no guarantee if his next try wouldn't get butchered too...unless it's in the hands of lord and savior Affleck.

His joker was ****ing weird. Still not sure if I liked the little we got or not

This is exactly how i feel about it. He just seems like he is trying to hard man. Idk,. i just wasnt really feeling it.

That was exactly my gut reaction after seeing the movie. And the more I think about it, the more negatively I feel about his performance.

I do like that this DCEU wants to focus more on the "crime boss" aspect of the Joker's character ... But I'm not at all feeling anything else they did with him in the movie.

I don't blame Jared for the performance, he didn't seem to have much to work with, and struggled talking through that awful grill (you can hear it!). Basically, the awful costume design limited his performance. I have faith he can do better if they retcon his look in future movies.

While I didn't like Leto's Joker, I'm willing to see how he fares with a better direction and script to work from. And hopefully clean up his look and lose the tattoos and grills (the latter of which affects his speech).
