I don't blame Jared for the performance, he didn't seem to have much to work with, and struggled talking through that awful grill (you can hear it!). Basically, the awful costume design limited his performance. I have faith he can do better if they retcon his look in future movies.

While I didn't like Leto's Joker, I'm willing to see how he fares with a better direction and script to work from. And hopefully clean up his look and lose the tattoos and grills (the latter of which affects his speech).

Yeah, as I had feared from little bits I had seen from the trailers, the grills really affected his speech and enunciation. As much as I have loved the look, I don't want it to affect the performance. Ditch them.

Hahahahah. I didn't notice it in the theaters, but now that you posted that - he definitely came off very Stanley Ipkiss.

I noticed he had the most difficulty when talking to Harley in helicopter...I was scared Jared is gonna drown in his drool

When asked if the Joker would make a comeback to the DC Extended Universe he said this: "I think it entirely depends upon the response of the public,” Leto says. “If they respond to this Joker, I can imagine the Joker coming back. But if they don’t, I certainly wouldn’t want to overstay my welcome.”

Then he said that he shot enough footage as the character that it could warrant a Joker solo film. Leto says:"I think that I brought so much to the table in every scene that it was probably more about filtering all of the insanity, because I wanted to give a lot of options, and I think there’s probably enough footage in this film for a Joker movie. If I were to die tomorrow, maybe the studio would roll something out..".

He continued about how he wished strived towards more adult territory with an R-Rating for Suicide Squad."I always wished this film was Rated R, and I had actually said that when we were starting that if a film was ever going to be rated R it should be the one about the villains,".

That was exactly my gut reaction after seeing the movie. And the more I think about it, the more negatively I feel about his performance.

I do like that this DCEU wants to focus more on the "crime boss" aspect of the Joker's character ... But I'm not at all feeling anything else they did with him in the movie.

This was me 100%.

Yep, a Joker that isn't funny isn't the Joker. Heath had a sadistic humour but it was definitely there and an integral part of his performance.

The Pencil trick, wanting his ''phone call", "I kill the bus driver", "Let's not blow this out of proportion", "Very poor choice of words" all funny moments, dark but funny.

True, but in case of The Dark Knight we got two things that perfectly worked together: Ledger's performance and the script. I think TDK has some serious problems (still love it), but almost every scene with Joker, his every dialogue is simply perfect. You won't find it in Suicide Squad and, to be honest, I don't think it's anywhere in all those deleted scenes.

I love that he is speaking out on this, I mean really what they did to him is awful. Cannot remember last time the studio treated an actor in this way

Really? I didn't get that same vibe when watching....seemed fine.

It wasn't Venom/Topher bad, but definitely there. His 's' sounds in particular were slurred, and every other syllable was slightly muddled because Jared never acclimated to his enlarged mouth.

They already screwed up Lex Luthor. That's the two biggest DC villains they made a balls up of this year.



That was one of the problems. Too much forcing it, trying to over emphasize how crazy this Joker is. Then they tell us Harley is more crazy and fearless than he is. Which is easy to believe in comparison to this neutered love sick puppy Joker.





Humor, dark or camp or both, is an integral part of his character.



That was one of the worst scenes in the movie, because it implies Harley would rather he be normal, instead of just loving him as the freaky clown he is, and imagining a married life where their craziness translates into a crazy looking marriage with screwed up looking kids, and living in a kooky Joker like house.

I didn't like the Joker owning a strip club. It doesn't feel in his character to own an actual place of business. A theme park like The Killing Joke, with the purpose to use it for all kinds of crazy things, sure. The Joker has never been about having a place of business, because despite sometimes wanting money, or wanting to be feared, a lot of his motive is to break Batman. The rest is all for the fun of it, and that random strip club stuff just felt so wrong.

It's like weirdly dark and gritty on the other end of the spectrum. I've wanted to avoid making comparisons, but I kind of have to here: Ledger was a dark Joker that did the motivation right, he was out to break down the Batman. Leto's seemed to be "Let's give him all these tattoos and a grill, own this sleazy strip joint, have the most stereotypical gangbanger types around him, and still try to make him seem crazy. I mean sometimes they attack places in animal costumes, so wacky, but it's still not really the same. People worked for Ledger's Joker because he showed he was something to be afraid of. What little we saw of Leto's Joker, he comes off as slightly more insane Cobblepot than the Joker.

It's a shame, we can only see an censor and cut version of his joker.

I'm really not sure how to feel about this Joker. I really wanted to like him but I just came away feeling.......meh.

He probably feels like he wasted a lot of his time by spending 6 months as part of the shoot only to end up with most likely under 5 minutes of screen time.
