Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - Part 15

I'm not trying to troll. I think he was the worst Joker ever put on screen. Joker In Name Only.

I think he was poorly written (ironic considering how good Harley was!), and the Joker seemed like a thug gangster/druggie. That's never been the Joker. Ugh.

Heath Ledger reigns supreme 8 years later.

he reminded me of TDKReturns Joker in the scene "blah blah blah" scene.

He neither wowed nor disappointed, as did Batman and the other cameo. But it intrigued me enough to want to see him and Harley (and Deadshot) in a less watered down, properly guns blazing David Ayer movie.

You obviously haven't read the Joker novel. And the Joker has always been a gangster, all they did is modernize that particular aspect to reflect the look of current gangsters.

every time you want to jump to the acid can - recall the second Mask transformation (Jim Carrey)

Really didn't think Leto's performance was all that, but he was given quite literally nothing to work with. Makes all of his crazy antics on set seem even more ridiculous and useless, to be frank. The Batman and Joker are modern day Shakespearean characters in a sense, everyone gets their swing at performing it, so I'm not against Leto attempting the Joker, but it's got to be approached in the right manner.

The only moment where he really felt like The Joker was when he was laughing as he was trying to get Harley out from the rest of the squad. Otherwise, it was Jared Leto in fancy green makeup and a bunch of editors editing out the crux of his relationship with Harley. Still want to see him in the future though.

Man, I cannot wait to see more of this Joker. His part in this movie was such a tease, but sill enjoyable and I'm glad we got this taste of him.

Literally years of build up to this performance, all these stories about Leto's intense method acting approach, all for what essentially is a cameo appearance that feels like it could have been played by anyone. It seems as if Leto's best stuff was cut out, and if that's the case I feel sorry for him.

I thought he was a cool, intense character to watch... Unfortunately, he just didn't feel like the Joker. Hopefully they bring back the manic clown stuff if he appears in the Batsolo or something.

Interesting yes, but more in a 'what is he trying to accomplish' type of interest. The voice didn't seem to fit, figured he go higher-pitched. I liked 1/4 words he'd say, the rest was odd.

I'm hopeful for him, he fits this universe. Would like to see him get more to do (sad the flashbacks were so brief/edited weirdly) especially against Affleck's Batman.

But, Ledger is still the man. The ticks, the lip licking, the bouncy voice (fit his Joker), his posture, the makeup, the infliction of words, his gestures... he was perfect.

I liked his portrayal but didn't feel he was given great material to work with.

Yep. He's popping pills and drinking liquor throughout the whole thing.

Yeah,

he even seemed like he was on Xanax or some **** in the "where is she?" Scene. (Btw he sounded like Batman there lmao)

Ledger's Joker was just a force of nature. But Nolan's Joker was exceptionally written, so I'm interested in seeing what Leto can do in a good film. If anything Leto's performance just reaffirmed how amazing Ledger was.

I'm not a big fan of that book. It domesticated Joker in a weird way by making him more like an atypical gangster/serial killer. Joker's more than that, for me anyway.

Ayer doesn't get Joker and Harley's relationship at all. Joker can't love. He keeps Harley around because her obsession over him feeds the narcissistic side of him. Joker wants attention and Harley gives it to him. He doesn't love her. He can't love. Joker is so manipulative of Harley and he almost always acts relieved when she's not around. Joker would never do pretty much everything he does for her in this film. To make things worse, she practically wears the pants in the relationship in this film.

Making the biggest villain in their new universe the soft innocent subplot will hold back future installments. His characterization has been botched. I can't see this Joker harming a fly. All Batman's got to do his threaten to harm Harley. It'll stop every one of this Joker's schemes.

Batman: don't poison Gotham's water supply!!
Joker: what are you going to do about it?
Batman: I'll kill Harley!
Joker: OK!!! OK!!! *surrenders*

Joker has zero emotional weaknesses. Also, it's more than just comic fans. Joker is known in pop culture as the most bat**** crazy, fun super villain. The crux of an emotional weakeness literally makes the whole character collapse on itself.

The only person Joker arguably loves is Batman. Joker will ALWAYS pick Batman over Harley.

I mean, damn, Joker came off so innocent, like Godzilla or King Kong. He doesn't know what he's doing is wrong, but he really can love. He came off heroic at the end...

I liked Leto's performance, but this wasn't Joker.

Also, like what in the literal ****. Batman is "too crazy" to settle down with a girl, but Joker isn't?

Indeed. The only times I have seen Joker actively seek out Harley is when he's got a specific use for her, or she has something he wants e.g. when she teamed with Ivy in BTAS, he tracked her down and tried to take all the loot they'd stolen together.

I thought Leto's performance was very good in the little screen time he had. It certainly whet my appetite for a proper showdown with Batfleck in his solo. I absolutely hate the tats and grill though. They annoy me greatly. If he does show up in Batfleck's movie I hope they're not present. But every other aspect from his wardrobe to his mannerisms and everything else I would really like to see more of. Leto deserves a chance to really stretch his legs because I think he put together a very cool interpretation.

Maybe some of the scenes that were deleted would have shown how abusive the relationship is and how evil he is, but it's hard to see it being that bad when the scenes we have involve Joker completely head over heels for Harley.

Its a different way to portray the abusive relationship now its a form of insane codependency but Joker is always obsessed with Harley in some way even in BTAS, When she leaves him he doesn't just forget about her

In this movie it works or the dynamic does

I know the abusive aspects or scenes got cut apparently. No need to wonder why since I doubt that would have been popular with many people being introduced to the characters.

Exactly!

Plus, do I need to remind everyone how much he physically beat up Harley in a CHILDREN'S TV SHOW:

They could have easily found a way to make it work in a PG-13 film.

While I agree with the criticisms towards the portrayal of Joker and Harley's relationship in the movie ... Is it fair to speculate that maybe we haven't seen the full extent of their relationship yet? Joker is not in the film much at all; we may have only seen one side to their relationship.

Or, you know, the DCEU totally screwed that up, too.
