So one of Ayer's main inspirations for Joker in Suicide Squad was Azzarello's Joker.

That was pretty much my impression seeing Leto's character in the film, with a hint of Grant Morrison's Joker from All-Star Batman & Robin.

That explains the gangster angle and Jonny (Jonny) Frost's presence.

I really appreciated Jared's Joker. Ledgers Joker was interesting but never scared me. Leto's Joker was terrifying and scared the light out of me.

Leto was given next to nothing to work with. I think the jury is still out until we see him in Affleck's Batman movie.

See i felt the exact opposite. This guy is just some punk who needs extra gimmicks to stand out. Ledger Joker didn't seem like he put that much into his look. Just some face paint threw on some clothes and went to create chaos. This one was just some punk. Plus he was too slim. I would have no problem slapping around this joker because he just seemed like your everyday thug. Just shooting people in the head and running. That's not uncommon from your normal crime boss.

I won't get to see the movie until tonight, but I've found Leto's Joker to be scary in just the trailers.

There was many things in that GN I found off, including that. The implication that Joker raped Johnny Frost's gf is another.

You know... I really don't get why Joker can murder schoolkids for all anyone cares , but rape is suddenly a no-no. Even if you want to use the asexual argument I don't really care for, rape is less about sex and more about displaying dominance and degrading/humiliating the victim, things The Joker loves to do.

His mannerisms just seemed kinda lame compared to Heath. Ledger's Joker was the outwardly crazy, inwardly composed type of villain, and he went from one extreme of the Joker's emotions to another really frightening and unpredictable. Leto kinda seems like he was stuck in neutral.

But again, his role was woefully underwritten. I maintain had they retained the original nature of his relationship with Harley, then we would've gotten a more of Leto in the film and fixed a lot of people's issues with his character (though not necessarily his performance)

There isn't really enough of Joker in this movie to get a full impression of him. He has like 10 minutes of screen time and they are all short scenes. From what I could tell Jared's Joker is more of a gangster than other Joker portrayals. But I am interested to see him in a solo Batman film. Also was it just me or did Jared sorta sound like Ledger even the laugh sorta sounds like his.

Leto was unimpressive and forgettable. Gone was the abusive relationship angle. Instead that turned Joker into a love sick emo 16 year old for his first ever girlfriend. The character in the comics views her as disposable yet she's still so loyal and submissive.

Will Smith's Deadpool was ironically by far and away the best part of this movie. Harley was hit and miss. Everyone else was forgettable or stupid. Even the Batman cameos were lackluster.

What happened to Ayer saying this would be the most frightening scenes of Batman? Lol ...

Debut scenes for Batman in B89, Begins, TDK, and BvS all portrayed more frightening than he was here.

People are rightly hung up on Ledger's bar setting performance and Nolan's take on the Joker for a reason. It's by far the best.

I'm kinda conflicted about this Joker. There are moments like [BLACKOUT]the Batman scene where Joker crashes into the river, escapes and leaves Harley behind for Batman to capture[/BLACKOUT] that felt like classic Joker. Then the whole [BLACKOUT]"Would you live for me?"[/BLACKOUT] exchange was pretty painfully cringey. I disagree with the argument about them neutering the character and making him a 'teddy bear' as some of his other antics in the movie make him seem very dangerous. I just hope they can salvage the good and either write out or ignore the bad parts entirely for future appearances.

Even if I had never seen TDK, this Joker still wouldn't interest me. He was terrible, all that hype for nothing. His laugh was also BRUTAL... Very mono, no diversity. I wouldn't care if we never saw him in the DCeU again, at least Harley was mildly entertaining.

Well for good reason. It was not that long ago. And it was an amazing performance in an amazing movie. Now, we are given a short time later a maybe decent performance (the editing and writing seems to do its damnedest to hide that) in a mediocre movie.

That entire ace chemicals scene made me cringe. Especially the music lmao

But yeah, he needs a part in an actual batfilm before I can make my final verdict, but so far :

Ledger Joker was actually crazy. Sadistic and Masochistic ... nihilistic. Truly frightening.

This guy was more like a skinny mid level thug punk. Ledger Joker didn't care for trivial things like winning a woman over. Ledger's Joker would wipe the floor with Leto in performance and as a character.

Ledger was spine chilling.

Leto looked like Justin Bieber with clown makeup on.

Also, why the monumental age difference between Affleck Batman and Leto Joker in this shared universe? It doesn't go. Neither do their aesthetics. Leto is a contemporary cartel clown on crack. Affleck has a very traditional, direct from the comic look.

Ugh, NOTHING will top Bale and Ledger. Both were just too real and visceral. Portrayed by best actor class of their generation.

If you can't make an impact ad the Joker even in a short period of time ... it's not strictly the material you're given. There is no leash on a character like that and quality actors can elevate even crappy material. See what Will Smith did through out the entire movie. Leto just wasn't that good along with a characterization and look that sucked.

Lol there are plenty of moments he just leaves Harley after the crash in the water and for a moment he was about to say sihanara after she fell in the acid pit but he turned around jumped in too. They clearly removed the abusive route, audiences didn't like it in test screenings. But Ayer does still show signs that he's a conflicted man.
