You really believe it has anything to do with Heath? ffs... he even says in the ign interview "That's the good news about the death of an actor, all that stuff seems to come out" (nothing even has of Heath so why would you think Heath?)

Leto's always been morbid and deadpan in interviews

It's a pretty stupid thing to say regardless. But hey, if it doesn't bother you, all the power to you.

Besides, I can't recall any instance where a studio releases a bunch of footage of an actor from a movie because that actor dies. Not exactly sure what he's referencing anyway.

As for Heath, it's not that he's directly referencing him. But Leto is talking about how the studio may release more of his footage as The Joker if he died soon. And the last actor who played The Joker did die soon after playing the part. So while he may not be directly referencing it, it's understandable why people would be reminded. Hence my tone-deaf remark.

I think he meant posthumous releases in general. Those are quite large I.E. Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley etc. I believe Bruce lee might have had some as well, I can understand where Leto is coming from though, he probably feels like a fool for getting so invested in this character and so excited to then just become a glorified cameo. Usually I wouldn't take an actors side for sny little comments like that but I think he's earned a few snippy comments. I realize things get left on the cutting room floor(as does he) but this is silly.

Watched the film yesterday. Super disappointed to see one of the best comic book villains portrayed as a generic but love sick crime boss. Even though the short screen time I can tell that I really don't like this version.

I only liked his laugh. The rest of his portrayal was very underwhelming. He didnt feel menacing, just crazy for crazy's sake. I think Ayers just wrote a horrible Joker. I like Jared as an actor but that guy he portrayed wasn't the Joker.

Also the whole boyfriend angle didn't work for me. He was just Harley's crazy boyfriend. I saw that coming as soon as Waller said that Harley was even crazier and more fearless than the Joker. NO SHE ISN'T!!!

To me the core problem of Joker in Suicide Squad is there's not more to him. To me, he was just a punk crime lord, not The Joker.

Honestly, Ayer's script really didn't help Leto's cause all that much. The character was written... badly. Just plain badly.

Agreed on all points

Waaaait, when was this said?

During the briefing scene at the beginning. She says point-blank that Harley is crazier than the Joker.

Shouldn't she have said.... something like...how they're even more crazier when they're together? I mean you would think that Harley and Joker, respectfully, are just as crazy on their own but when they're together, they sure wreck a s*** load of havoc.

Now that right there irritates me.
It honestly felt like they got their entire dynamic backwards.

After Joker "died" in the helicopter crash, Harley pulled herself together pretty quickly. She even chooses to kill Enchantress instead of taking her up on her offer to bring Joker back to life. And at the end of the film, she seems pretty content. Didn't really seem like she was giving Joker a second thought. Meanwhile, Joker spends the entire film pining after her like a love-sick puppy, even after nearly getting killed for it. And she's the crazier of the two.

Yep. The whole thing feels ass-backwards.

Irritating but so true. They made a balls up of the Joker/Harley relationship.

Well when you've got seven cuts of the movie being worked simultaneously, hilarious lapses in continuity are bound to happen.

I didn't like how they toned down the relationship between Harley and Joker...it was too watered down knowing there is a lot more to their dark twisted relationship. What they cut out and trimmed down considerably shows what they did that hurt the film so much...I was so looking forward to seeing how their dynamic would be further explored.

If a extended cut is made, I will never watch the theatrical version again.

I absolutely hate that line. Amazing it was ever even written down, much less uttered.

Every time I read stuff like this, all I can think is, But why? Why did they mess up our movie??

Of course, we shouldn't forget that the only reason Joker is in this movie is because he's vital to Harley Quinn's backstory. No Harley = no Joker. That's why the dynamic is off. She is the more important character in SS than Joker. He is subservient to her in terms of narrative importance.

Frankly, Joker should be in this film less than he is. A phantom in the background, who is hinted at rather than seen.

i kind of agree. he should have been in the flashbacks and at the very end. or the full blown villain with much more screen time. this "happy" medium left everyone unhappy.

I cant wait to see Leto being directed by Batfleck.

YES!!!!

Uh, no. Not everything revolves around Heath people, jesus. And that quote doesn't even apply to Heath. He's talking about how studios release all this archive footage of actors after they die.

Thank you so much for writing this, my eyeballs hurt from rolling whenever people think Jared was referencing Heath in any way.

That's fantastic :funny:

Except the film actually states Harley was an accomplice in Robin's death. And he already has the grill and the tattoo when he meets her in Arkham Asylum.

Makes me wonder if Ayer and co. are just complete idiots or they didn't really care that much?

Movies where the production was a dumpster fire like this always have these stupid continuity errors. When everyone's rushing around like headless chickens on the big stuff, the small things fall through the cracks.

However that Empire interview was released after the premiere so Ayer didn't even see what's in his own movie?

He keeps talking and seriously adding to the problems. Maybe he didn't even see the movie, like Leto?
