I don't really care about any of that. Besides, there's also the possibility that Leto's scenes were terrible, and the studio cut them down to minimize damage. This whole outrage over the injustice towards Leto only works under the assumption that his scenes were actually good, and I doubt the studio would have cut them if they were really THAT good.

I don't trust WB enough to make those presumptions. Fact is they had a rare actor who was willing to fill big shoes and choose this specific part as his follow up to an Academy Award. What they did to his part was a travesty.

I've no doubt he was pitched a far different presentation than what we were given. If he was going to fail, then let him fail on his own terms. Not in the editing room.

After hearing this, I hope Ben scoops him up. He deserves a second shot at it.

But at the end of the day, they paid him, and its their material to use as they see fit. I'm more annoyed about being personally misled, not because it hurt Leto's feelings.

Well yeah but that only factors in the legality of the situation. I don't doubt that both parties held up their end of the contract, but Leto is a person, not a faceless corporation. He has the right to feel betrayed, and the fans do too.

It's a crappy, but interesting situation. These next couple of years are going to be rife with speculation until Leto is officially announced as being part of the Batman solo film. Or not.

Well, Live By Night hits theaters in December/January, so we could be hearing more about the solo film early in the new year. You'd figure locking down the principal cast will be the first order of business.

Let Affleck and Leto talk things out and see where they stand. But if, at the end of those talks, Leto decides his heart isn't in it 100%, then recast. I couldn't care less about contracts. If the guy doesn't want to do it, then don't force him to do it. That's worse for everybody.

Did you just compare Jared Leto to George Clooney as Batman?

I don't think so. What he needs is a decent script, a director who actually directs him, and the studio to keep their hands off the final product. I mean, they let their trailer company edit the movie. Who does that?? A lot of things went wrong with "Suicide Squad" that weren't Jared's fault.

Exactly no point in forcing him if he doesn't feel up to doing it(Honestly who could blame it at this point?), But I wish he does come back and get a chance to shine as the Joker where he couldn't here. It is interesting to wonder if the deleted scenes could have enhanced, or would have detracted from his performance.

A part from that... I dunno...Maybe it's just me but I hope I am not the only one who feels Jared's Joker is slowly growing on me...

I hate for him to not return. After all that effort he put into every take and so much doesn't find their way into the final cut...what a waste. Not to mention the dark twisted backstory of Harley Quinn that I was looking forward to the most. I admit, I liked what we got but I wanted to see more. *sighs*

Agreed, I feel like he should return, but he needed more than what he ended up being given.

The more I watch and think about it the better the scene becomes for me. My only issue is that its probably a great scene that was cut down to just a good scene. I liked how Harley and Joker were basically toying with their prey.

No he always gives it his all he just knows he has no control over the final product. I remember him and other actors talking about this in a Hollywood reporter roundtable . He's talked about how excited he is for Jokers future and wanting to take on Batfleck,but he has a right to be disappointed with how things turned out here. And you keep telling yourself it was because his scenes were terrible even though it's pretty freaking obvious what happened with how his story did a 180 after the film completed and flashback scenes were cut down for everybody into Amanda Wallers lazy inteo

For the record, I never said WB most definitely cut his scenes because they were terrible. How on Earth would I know that for a fact? I've not seen them. My point is that it IS a possibility. There are sides to this we do not know, and I'm simply pointing out how odd it is that the studio cut so much of his material after spending months and months promoting the **** out of it with trailers and posters and cast interviews.

But if you want to believe it was the best performance ever and the mean studio cut his scenes to ribbons just 'cuz, hey man all the power to you.

They could get away with it, too. Leto has not made the Joker his own, or won over the fans like say Margot has with Harley.

lol I don't need 'it was' because even with what we got it was my favorite version of the Joker. Realized it after rewatching TDK recently. Heath still swoons in the laughs department tho.

While there is a possibility the deleted Joker scenes are bad, I find it unlikely based on Jared's performance history. Generally, his performances get praised even in movies that are otherwise panned.

I think it's more likely a lot of them involved the abusive nature of his relationship to Harley and WB made the last minute decision to cut all that stuff. Plus anything else really violent (like what actually happened to Common's character).

Leto's Joker needs refinement all-around, from the aesthetics to the characterization to the performance. Ditch the tats and grillz, give him a decent role in a decent script, and give him a director that will actually direct him, and I'd be curious to see what he could do. If Affleck is such a big fan of TDKR, maybe have Leto play the Joker more along those lines. Something a bit more subdued and nuanced. More controlled.

There's potential. But if they just want to continue down the trajectory that Ayer put them on, then I'm not interested.
