Jared Leto IS The Joker - - - - - - - - Part 17

I actually really liked Letos Joker despite the short amount of screen time.

He was loud, flashy, over the top (that's not a bad thing) and down right egotistical. (Come on, those tattoos he ptratically wears as trophies).

Okay granted I wish we had a few more jokes, but that's something the comics struggle on with joker too; they write him like every other serial killer with some big dramatic speech. I'm glad Leto didn't have ledger like monolouge.

The helicopter scene with him shooting was pure Joker.

As for his care for Harley, I always saw it as pure egotism. Harley is his property and no one else's.

I wanna see more of him.

Honestly, as much as I love Leto's portrayal and rendition, a Ledger-esque monologue would've only helped him. Hell, he probably had one (or more) that got cut.

I'm willing to bet anything that could qualify as truly quotable was cut out of the movie.

Yea I kept thinking he needed just one monologue to sell us on the character. Seems the casino scene was so cut to bits. I liked the Chemical vat scene, but you can tell they cut half of that as well.

I read the piece from the novelization for the club scene this morning... WOW! they should have made that club scene just like it was supposed to be.

I didn't like it.

I feel Leto didn't fully know what he wanted to do with the character. There were a couple of moments where i thought he was quite good, so there is definitely potential. But there were other moments where he just felt like a regular guy with make up trying to make a funny voice. I never really felt like i was watching The Joker. I think part of it is due to the material he had to work with, which was very weak.

I think with a good director and good material his Joker might be able to work, but i wasn't impressed by what i saw.

Whoever wrote this story doesn't really understand what makes The Joker so special. Writing a story where The Joker's main motivation is to get a girl back is like writing a story where Batman tries to catch and punish teenagers who smoke weed. It's just not a good representation of what the character is all about, historically speaking.

Oh man, why would WB edit that scene, just f**kin why? :csad:

Finally saw the movie. As rough and uneven as a badger's arse groomed by a blind barber, but I enjoyed it.

I liked what we did see of Leto's Joker, but there really was insufficient time given to develop and realise what is a distinctive presentation of a familiar character. It is clear that his relationship with Harley is complex and, to some degree, novel. I suppose you might say that she is his muse; he is bullying and controlling towards her, but can't bear to be without her.

I wanted to see more, and I suppose that is some kind of commendation.

Oh, and I didn't notice the head-tattoos at all. So, from my perspective, they may as well get rid of them. I was more troubled by the metal teeth, which seem to make Leto sound a bit like Nicholas Cage on full ham. I don't mind the visual affect much, but if it is to be retained it should be refined.

That's one gorgeous picture.

And I believe he also had far more dialogue in the scene where he breaks into the lab as well. As far as I can tell per the novelization, they really did cut all of the moments that would've truly defined Leto's Joker.

Makes sense the trailer company came in and hacked everything up to short bursts instead of retaining dialogue.

What was your favorite Joker moment in the film?

Hard to say as almost all felt that they were chopped up to diminish their effect. I did like his appearance in the meat cooler but, overall, I think the strongest scene was that where he was lying on the floor of his apartment. There was something pleasingly jarring about seeing this daemonic presence in a moment of domestic repose. I really missed the scene with him texting from a motel room, for this reason.

me too, cheesy musical accompaniment and everything. it was so on the nose, but I just don't care.

The worst thing to ever happen to this movie was the Queen trailer. Then it again it may have been the best thing since thats why the movie got so popular.

I am really desperate to see what Batman did to his teeth.

^ Hoping we get a flashback of what happened in its entirety in Batman's solo. Would be a great way to start the movie.

His performance reminded me why Clooney decided to direct for himself. He talked about doing rehearsals and scenes on several films, only to have his character motivation be completely different or cut from the final film. CLooney dreaded the editing process for his films. lol

Ayer and co let Jared down. I can only hope about Batfleck doing the right thing in the future.

So I watched the theatrical trailer for Batman Forever and Carrey's Riddler reminded me of Leto's Joker.

Considering that it sounds as if the Joker won't be the main villain in Affleck's movie, I'm disappointed, but I'll take 15 minutes of a performance not hacked to pieces over what we got in "Suicide Squad."

As for Leto directing himself, he's already proven he can in music videos, but I don't know if he would be willing to invest the time it would take to make a feature length movie. That would take him away from his band for a long time, and I get the impression he's a musician who does movies as his side thing. Then again, he's taken two roles this year, so maybe that's changing.

I really liked the performance. It gets better the more times you watch it (at least for me)

However, I will say it seemed like two things were going on. It seemed like Leto was in a different movie and they chose some of his "silliest" takes on the character.

This is what happens when a Trailer company edits your film.

I like the toothy grin tattoo on his hand and the way he uses it lol.

C'mon son

I like the toothy grin tattoo on his hand and the way he uses it lol.

I like the way I've seen it used in fan art more than how it was used in the movie.
It's something that I was looking forward to seeing in the movie but the times he used it were must kind of awkward.
:funny:

Yeah, I worded that badly but I meant that too, like in the one above with Bats.

Yea that could have been a real signature "move" yet they never really captured it on film the right way.

I did like when he covered Harley's mouth with it.
