When you think about it, it's pretty amazing that Ledger made that work so seemlessly. If you told me, without any knowledge of his performance, that the Joker would constantly be smacking and licking his lips I would have said hell no.

Yeah as someone who absolutely hates loud eaters/chewers/lip smackers etc. I found myself loving it with Joker.

It definitely wasn't, and still isn't something I would associate with the Joker, but Ledger made it work.

I'm with you there on the chewing sounds in real life, lol. They aggravate me to no end, but what are ya gonna do.

Do we know which shots are from reshoots with a wig and painted white eyebrows?

I kinda hated the Ledger slip smacking at first to be honest. But I got over it.

I know for sure when Harley is in the heli with him, and when they show him shooting Monster T, and when he's dancing with Harley. Where his natural green hair kinda tapers off you can tell when he's wearing a wig because it sticks out more and is fuller. You can even see the eyebrow tape if you pause it at the right moment before he and Harley fall. That might be it, not many other scenes anyway.

The helicopter and prison break sequences are the only ones I can think of. His skin is noticeably whiter in those scenes. He looks pretty consistent the rest of the film.

Count me in with you guys. I can't stand being around someone who eats loud/smacks a lot but Heath made it work perfectly & it's actually one of my favorite ticks that he gave to the character.

Question.............. would you die for me?

meh.gif

Oh, Rodrigo, the Hype definitely would not be the same without you. :D

Do you know about his struggles with drug use?
Have you ever done Methamphetamines?
Whether he was on drugs on set or not the licking of the lips was from his drug use, I unfortunately know all to well, methamphetamines cause you to lick your lips and move your mouth in weird ways.

He won an oscar so to many he made the right choice I think it's over the top. I think a lot of Nicholsons performance is over the top but the film called for that. I really love ceasar Romeros take but it's clearly a cartoony joker.

I honestly don't think We've ever had a bad joker and I love each actors take on them

I honestly don't think you've been around drugs enough.
The lip-smacking was a concious choice for the character, and not due to drug use.

I heard the lip smacking was also kinda just a natural tick of his , and not from drugs or anything either wtf
I've seen him do it in many interviews as well as some of the jitteriness and even I lick my lips like that sometimes ( then again, I've been impersonating Joker for yeeears, so it might be partially related to that ... lol ). It's kinda normal ( not in the overexagerrated manner he does it as Joker , but still )

From what i remember they said the lip smacking came from him being uncomfortable because of the prosthetics, so he sucked his cheeks to alleviate it. They thought it was a good addition to the character so they kept it.

He did the lip smacking because of the scarred perma-smile. It makes sense that the wound would itch very badly, which he would relieve by smacking his lips. But the habit stays long after the wounds heal.

Oh really? Which interviews? Because I've watched a plethora of them and haven't ever seen Ledger do it in interviews. By all means post a link. :cwink:

Dude, I'm STILL laughing at the "ghost of Jim Carrey's career searching for a new host" comment. :funny:
I've just been watching Dumb and Dumber... the good old days :hehe:

He had some interviews during the press tour for I'm Not There where he couldn't keep still and kept doing weird things with his arms.

Heath was pretty much an introvert and you can see it in how he carries himself in those interviews.
