But would you expect any less from some of the folks here on the hype? Haha sadly no. Always going to see some crazy over the top theatrics when it comes to their dislike of something.
Broseph, you do like to group all dislike. AoU spoiler thread as proof. :cwink:

And that's something that is so unsettlingly about it. He looks like a thug. The Joker isn't a thug, he's the one who orders thugs around. With this, he looks like someone who should be working for The Joker, but not the actual Goddamn Joker.

That is probably the best way to put it.

"Lazy" makes no sense here. They completely redesigned the character in a way that's never been done in 75 years.

It's not like a metal style is some comic book villain hallmark. Who else besides Vanko in Iron Man 2? And in that case, it made sense as an opposite of Tony and to give personality to a comic character that had zero defining personality traits.

Seriously, what are these scores of movies with similar "creepy edgy villains" that have rock/metal looks? How is this lazy in any definition of the word? You can say you hate it and have merit, but to call it "lazy" is hilarious.

You're not getting my point. I'm not saying it's lazy because it is derivative of other comic book super villains. I'm saying it is lazy because using metal and punk culture as a shorthand for "edgy," "deviant," and "dangerous" is a tired and shallow cliche that has no substance to it.

The quotes from the movie where he defines anarchism incorrectly. He is not an anarchist. Blowing things up and using the word anarchism in the colloquial sense as a synonym for chaos does not make you an anarchist.

Plus, the dude was pretty meticulous for the a guy who was all into chaos.

Leto could deliver the greatest acting performance ever and it wouldnt convince me that he doesnt look stupid.

Thinking a character's design is stupid is not the same as thinking the entire performance will suck.
It's one picture. People were raving about the leaked photos that came out. He might never appear shirtless in the movie, it might just an insight into his character.

Am I the only one who thinks this guy looks like some crazy Heath Ledger Joker fan-boy or something?

The type of guy who'd talk about how heath's performance changed his life?

I wonder how meta this movie will be?

Yeah, but we don't really know what's up with this version. What if they were more like the modern gangester/thus rather than some mafia type of thing? And that's just if this Joker was even ever involved with them anyway.

No Permawhite. No Red Hood falling into chemicals. That's the way I interpret it :hehe:

But it's true, they could be a modernised, tougher gang.

"Upset the established order." - Joker, The Dark Knight

"Upset the established order" is a vague statement that has nothing directly to do with establishing a stateless, communal direct democracy. And as his actions had nothing to do with that, there is no grounds to say that he was an anarchist.

What is your reaction Sam? I admit... It's pretty different. People were NOT expecting this.

I really dig it. I think those tattoos are just homage to his 75th anniversary though. You want to talk about being a different joker from Heath's? This is it. I'm terrified of this joker, I was never terrified of Jack or Heath, but this is...this is what nightmares are made of. Batfleck has gone through hell and back and this joker put him through that. I can't wait.

Hnnngh.

It's like they erase all the knowledge they have and just explode in anger and forget what they have learned that things aren't always as first sight. And specially in this case, I think all of those (tattoos) have his purpose not just something just to put it for the sake of it. Really weird people see that and no that every tattoo may have a reason. But they have to learn AGAIN on the hard way...

But again, there is a difference between a characters performance and look. Just because the performance of the character is good, doesnt not mean the character still wont look stupid. If Leto's performance is excellent thats not going to make me say "man that damaged tattoo is really cool now because Leto was great." No, it will still look stupid.

No you're not. He looks like a punk rocker from a Joker themed band, or a punk goon from the Jokerz gang in Batman Beyond.

the more i look at it the more i like it
i could definitely see ben's batman knocking joker's teeth out

"Upset the established order." - Joker, The Dark Knight
Because of chaos. The entire point is he wants insanity. He wants to incite chaos. He does so using a bunch of well know methods. Hence the boat situation. His reaction to the lack of explosion makes it obvious. He is annoyed his methods haven't worked.

I wonder how much of it was Leto's input.

It will be so meta, it won't appear meta at all.

There were moments with Heath that were very unsettling to say the least for me. But yes, just from this first look, we have a crazed serial killer or mass murdering terrorist type or a combo of both. It's very different. It's not what I would have done, but that doesn't make it an automatic fail or something, and it certainly doesn't preclude it from being a good movie and interesting take on the character.

I too want him to talk about how he lost all those teeth to BatFleck's Hammers of Justice.

I love how he's wearing a single glove. It reminds me of Michael Jackson.

I guess his pasty skin does, too...

Not bad at all.

THe only thing I would get rid of is the forehead "Damaged" tattoo.

Exactly. The rest can be mitigated with clothes and the teeth don't bother me at all. But the best we can hope for is that he'll wear a hat much of the time(but I doubt it).
