Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 4

If they changed something every time a bunch of whiney forum nerds threw a **** fit they would never actually get anything done.

That's nice... paint everybody with the same brush, just because some aren't LOVING the new look.

No because there are just as many examples of audiences being right about their skepticism.
Brilliant. So if we only somehow target the productions where the audiences' predictions were right, we'd have great movies 100% of the time! Someone call...the time travelers!

Question to anyone who has a tattoo: does the artist usually wear a surgical glove when he is applying the design?

If so, I feel the fact that Leto is wearing one would lend credibility to this being some kind of one-off.

The thing that no one mentions when bringing up Heath Ledger is that for every Heath Ledger there is a Topher Grace (Venom). Yes these people get paid to create movies but that doesn't mean they aren't capable of making dumb decisions.

Yes. And I was just wondering about the glove myself, that makes sense. It might also make sense to conclude he tattoos himself in the film's mythos though. Anyway.. hm.

That's exactly right, any of these directions can be both great or really poor. Something simply being different isn't indicative of either, yet here people are using that simple observation as evidence towards the latter.

Sorry folks, seems like the lame tatoos are here to stay.

Skin color is perfect, by the way!!

Had a night to sleep on it, and I pretty much feel the same way. The base design is great (green hair, red lips, white skin), and the body tattoos will eventually be covered by clothing, so they're not something I'm going to get hung up on.

Which brings us to the face tattoos and the metal grill.

While the metal caps are a deviation from the classic white grin, the potential reasoning behind them makes sense. So many years of Batman punching you in the face would probably cause some damage when all is said and done. Maybe The Joker thinks this is funny.

The "J" tear drop is too tiny for me to really be bothered by it. It's mostly negligible.

The "Damaged" tattoo I would rather do without. I don't care for it, but I'm not as annoyed by it as most people are.

He looks like The Joker. That much is plain to me. I could simply do without some of the excessive embellishments.

Jared Leto is a great actor, therefore he can be a great Joker. David Ayer is apparently a decent director, and so he will direct a decent Joker. I think we have to look at the sum of the parts here..
Also it's Suicide Squad. And they've got plenty more going for this production even aside from any choices regarding the Joker.. which lends to the idea that each part is designed to be equally, though uniquely, epic. When we see the other character designs and such I think we'll get a better feel of this.

After sleeping on it I like the look. I always wanted a deranged totally bat-@#$% insane Joker. We got something of that with Jack but not with Ledger. Sure he was sort of crazy but not the type of crazy that would Jokerize fish and try to copyright them.
Leto's Joker looks so insane that you don't know what he's gonna do. He looks like a guy that could kill a bunch of people and always get off on the insanity plea. Someone who just talking to him...would rend your mind in two (Harley).
Yes the tattoos are a bit much...but a bit much is exactly what you'd expect from a guy who patterns himself after a playing card....the same guy going around with an acid filled flower or lethal joy buzzer. The Joker has always been a bit much.

On the subject of tattoos, I don't think it's that out of character for him to embellish himself with self-aware propaganda. It plays into the character's vanity.

Just because I hate the way he looks doesn't mean I think Leto won't be good in the role. I think he has the potential to be great. But I'm not going to change my mind on how stupid it looks.

I would give odds of about 4/1 on this not being a fully accurate representation of how he will look on film. The surgical glove and look of "what have I done?" just gives a chance.

Maybe he will cover the forehead tattoo up with a wide-brimmed purple fedora, anyway. :joker:

There's a chance that this Joker has succumb to his own celebrity.

Frankly I prefer him without the eyebrows, I see more lunacy in it, it makes his gaze more terrifying.

For some reason, this image makes me think the Joker characterization takes inspiration from Brian Azzarello's Joker.

Can someone manip this image of Jared Leto from Fight Club to make it look like the Joker. That way we can at least know how he lost his teeth.

First, Jared Leto looks absolutely incredible as The Joker. Especially the eyes. The hair, the skin, the lips, all spot on.

As for the tattoos, etc? It's a JOKE. Have people seriously not figured this out yet?

The Joker is taking the piss.

Think about it. He's IN PRISON in this movie. He is NOT your typical criminal. Therefore, he is "pretending" to be just that. A low level thug. He's essentially "playing a role" for kicks. The tattoos are all prison things, tailored to The Joker, in an ironic sense. We've heard that he will be "lifting weights", etc. Think about it. This is a character who constantly adapts and reinvents himself...why would he do any less in prison?

The "damaged" tattoo...that's going to be his way into Harley Quinn's heart most likely.

The giant smile on his arm? Pretty clever stuff, I think, a nice representation of his enormous grin.

Assuming this is how he will actually look, of course.

I love that people are so pissed off. That's likely exactly what the filmmakers wanted.

I love it.

Fair play for putting your money on it. I think you may be right, but I'm not sure.

That's why I'm not planting myself on either side of the fence until I see this thing in context. This could just as easily be the Joker having fun with the violent prisoner stereotype, and this isn't indicative of his "true," permanent appearance.

Context matters.

Even with the stupid teeth this is infinitely better. The body tats aren't that big of deal, while they are cheesy you won't be seeing them much. It's mainly the forehead tattoo.
