Someone brought up a brilliant theory, that by the end of the film Joker easily removes the tattoos (it was just a phase!)...but an absolutely furious Harley rags on him because hers were permanent.

Harley had similar tattoos in Arkham City while Joker didn't at all. I'm pretty sure, with all the insiders and DC higher ups saying this, that Joker will have his classic look in Suicide Squad without tattoos.

I think with Harley's look and seeing the rest of the cast it does seem to point heavily towards the Joker reveal being more in line with Ayer's choice in aesthetics for the movie than not.

I think one scene could turn everyone around on the face tattoo. Imagine, for instance, that someone in a factory is sorting through a bunch of clothing that was returned to the manufacturer because they arrived damaged. As he's labeling them as such Joker pops out of the clothing with that tattoo.

Okay, that's a stupid idea, but you get what I mean. The fact that he'd permanently put a tattoo on his face for a bad joke is classic Joker.

If I ever watch that movie, I hope there's a plot twist where she finds out that the guy she met on Christian Mingle is actually a wanted criminal. But not the type of criminal that she eventually falls in love with and defends when the cops come for him, but a sick and messed up individual that seems like he's Albert Fish reborn.
