So his idea of improvement is to ape the Ledger aesthetic, only worse.

Nailed it, I guess.

I said it in the other thread earlier or maybe this one, but I am glad you're starting to come around to this Joker.

When Snyder gets the blame even though it's not his film.

It's not even about that.

This is an unfortunate side effect of the cultural impact that Ledger's Joker has had. In the minds of the casual "know it all" fans, it's the new archetype. People wanting a knock-off of that same aesthetic just because it's cool, despite it being a major deviation from the source material in of itself. And no doubt these are the same people *****ing on social media about how they get these characters more than the filmmakers.

YES! Thank-you, this summarizes exactly the way I feel. Family and friends of mine are forever comparing Leto to Ledger as though Ledger is the perfect, idle adaptation of the character.

Ha well what do you expect. Most people who see these kinda movies don't read comics. They don't care about the stuff fanboys do. To the world Ledger's Joker is tops. Like the greatest comic book villain of all by a long shot. Same can be said with the CB fans too even in spite of his look which is still awesome not being dead on comic accurate. Sticking tattoos and grills teeth all over him well you don't need to be a fanboy to think that looks lame.

Looks like those tats weren't photoshopped, and I still don't like them one bit.

What concerns my about his false, chrome teeth is that I think it might be awkward and clunky in Leto's mouth when he talks. Have you ever tried talking with a mouthguard in? Not only that, but I suspect shiny metal teeth will distract me from Leto's performance every time I see them.

Again, I hope I'm wrong and it ends up being awesome.

That's the only reason I don't like them Spicy.

I am not expecting the general audience to have read the comics, but I do not think it is necessary to cite Ledger's portrayal as the definitive Joker. By cinematic standards thus far, than sure, he is the definitive portrayal to a lot of people. But he is not the idle Joker that all forms of media should take inspiration from.

Comic book films adapt comic book characters, they are not supposed to mimic other cinematic interpretations of the character that have already been seen. They make their own adaptation of the source material, which are the comics.

The point being that if people simply ape what's been done before and what's most popular, and do it over and over again, these characters will ultimately stagnate. For better or worse, something new needs to be brought to the table if you want to justify bringing these characters back multiple times.

Seeing even one other actor made up to look like Ledger's Joker would be both demoralizing and infuriating.

I never even considered that. I was so focused on how horrendously stupid and distracting they look in his mouth that I never thought of the physical effect they would have on his speech.

I pray I'm wrong, but seeing another Topher/Venom situation in this regard would be disastrous. Ayer and Leto would have surely taken this into consideration with prep.

The grills are a Madonna influence. I feel it, deep down in the depth of my rebel heart. :sly:

Weee little nit pick. I wish Joker's lipstick wasn't put on so...thick? I don't really know how to explain it. I mean, the lipstick looks like it goes past his actual lips.

I sure hope so. But they also sanctioned the 'Damaged' and 'Hahaha' tattoos, so I'm a bit worried.

So be the tattoos are gonna take down the performance of Leto? :funny:
