Jared Leto IS The Joker - Part 7

Face-off Joker is scary in the sense that it's ****ing disgusting.

Far too gruesome for my tastes. It's more Leatherface than Joker (quite literally), and it's horror is derived mostly from cheap shock value and being disgusting. And just the other day I was talking about my personal issue with contemporary writers making the character more and more demented to the point where I actually am finding him less interesting as a character. There's less of a balance between the mischievous clown and the psychotic murderer and the scales are being tipped more in favor of the latter nowadays.

I'll take Tattoo'ed Leto and Make-Up Ledger over it any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

New 52 Joker is far worse than Suicide Squad Joker in terms of design IMO.

You didn't find him scary in The Killing Joke or A Serious House on Serious Earth? The latter one especially is pure nightmare fuel.

I thought the Joker looked and was written very well in both of those stories and he was very creepy in them as well, but he certainly did not have the same level of creepiness factor that he possesses under Snyder and Capullo or at least in my eyes he didn't. The way he looked in DOTF makes my skins crawl and in DOTF and Endgame he reminds me of something from a horror movie that stares at you in a dark room, with that big ol' deranged grin of his. Snyder's/Capullo's Joker is certainly the one I would be most reluctant to come across in real life, that is for sure. The majority of Joker depictions are creepy and scary in a way I guess, but I would certainly fancy my chances against a lot of the other versions of The Joker over Snyder's/Capullo's one (and I wouldn't really fancy my chances against any of the other Jokers tbh). I guess he did scare me in both of those stories that you mentioned, just nowhere near as much as in DOTF and Endgame. All IMO of course.

I never cared much for leather face joker either. My favorite comic stories and designs of the character have come from The Man who Laughs, Killing Joke, The Dark Knight Returns, and Arkham Asylum: A serious house on serious earth.

I should also add that I found the Joker in the tie-in to Endgame where he "befriends" Tommy to be pretty damn scary/creepy as well. I seem to be one of the few people on this forum who likes the New 52 Joker and I suppose the New 52 in general.

Since we'll no where near stopping the debate over his look I just want to throw this out there again.

I think that since this is a villain film that having an arc for Joker makes sense.

Well we know that the Squad are Belle Reve inmates, but we also know (from Ayre's prop shots on Twitter) that Arkham is in the movie. All of the action so far is in Midway City, so it's a safe bet that the Joker is the one who'll be in Arkham.

Or... That in fact may be where the film ENDS. Like I stated, we really don't know much. is every Squad member already in Belle Reve? I don't think we can definitively say all that much.

Only two of them are Arkham inmates usually – Croc and Harley.
Harley of course is an ex psychiatric nurse/psychiatrist who falls for the Joker in Arkham, so he's got to have been in there before – plus a Joker who isn't in and out of Arkham isn't really much of a Joker!
Croc on the other hand – well I suppose he could be a Belle Reve inmate, as he's not really criminally insane – just a villain with a really bad skin condition and super human strength.

I didn't totally hate Leatherface Joker within the context of Death of the Family (though I found that whole arc to be anti-climactic and ultimately pointless), but the fact that anyone could say they'd prefer to have Leatherface Joker over Leto's Joker in the Suicide Squad movie boggles my mind.

I didn't like Leatherface Joker very much either but DOTF was a good story overall despite its lackluster ending.

It suffered from the perennial problem of DC's current era: endless foreplay.

To be fair, Snyder's Endgame finale was pretty great.

I didn't mind Leatherface Joker that much either for a one-off appearance. But it's not something I'm wanting to become the norm. But then again, I guess that's the Joker. You can do a lot with the character. I really liked how Joker looked in Endgame.

Yeah, as we're seeing here.

I also liked how he looked in Endgame and Leto's Joker resembles that a fair amount, especially with the hairstyle.

Leto is Joker, Joker loves himself... that's cannon :o
