Ocean Master backstory for the solo film: Ocean Master is really Aquaman's half-brother who after their father's disappearance felt abandoned by Arthur after he spends all his time searching for his real mother. In an act of retaliation after a heated argument over the subject, Orm and Arthur fall over a side of a cliff. Arthur tells his half-brother to grab a hold of his hand before falling. Orm refuses and lets go of the cliff side falling into the ocean. Orm is later found by the Coastguard and brought to the hospital for observation. It is later revealed he suffered a head injury from the fall and has amnesia. Orm spends the rest of his life living with several foster families and becomes a petty thief until he decides to find his family. He learns his true identity as Orm Curry. When he learns about Arthur, Orm comes to the conclusion that his brother abandoned him and seeks vengeance.

Eh, there's always the Nu52 origin as well.

If they plan to keep villains around instead of killing them off, do you think we'll get a Belle Reve/similar type place?

Maybe. They might settle for ambiguous endings (i.e. Loki disappearing into space in Thor).

An element I would love to see introduced in the DCCU.

Depends on the villains. As far as I am concerned, Man of Steel has established that some villains need to be killed.

I get the feeling a that part of the leagues origin will be that Supes doesn't want to be in the situation he was in at the end of MoS. Both not being able to save everyone and being forced to take a life. I think they should avoid killing villains, except maybe darkseid. No locking that guy up.

The killing of Zod should have a profound effect on Supes and he NEEDS to address that. Considering it's BvS - Dawn of Justice, I'd like to see each of the heroes philosophies on killing. ZS better not leave that out.

If there are future films, I think the Kaldur/Aqualad needs to be saved for the sequels that feature Black Manta after the death of Arthur's son. If they choose to go down that road.

There's some great stuff to be mined in the idea of the hero who "raises" the villain's child to be a better man after the villain cold heartedly kills the hero's son.

How exactly would the League permanently restrain Zod?

Any villain on that level needs to be killed off. Brainiac, Imperiex, Mongul are all planet destroying villains and can't be contained by any force.

Batman's villains are just people, mostly. Same deal with Flash. Green Lantern has the Guardians. Aquaman has Atlantis. Wonder Woman has Themyscira, Olympus and Hades. They also all pretty much have exceptions.

I think it's a huge copout if they kill Zod and then no one else.

Maybe that will be a running theme in the DCCU. Me personally, I don't want to see Supes or any other hero snapping necks. That's just me though.

The phantom zone would have been the only other way. Too bad that was destroyed.

Yup yup totally agreed. Superman should be trying to kill Brainiac and Darkseid. That's really the only solution. When Darkseid is defeated, he'll probably retreat to Apokolips with a boom tube, but obviously he'll come back with a vengeance... you gotta put that mofo down

God is this a tiresome conversation that unfortunately infects the entire DC boards. And I don't care if I sound grumpy or *****y, I'm saying my peace about it.

Are we REALLY discussing Zod's death in this thread.

Someone make a quick list of Aquaman's rogues, please.

Black Manta

Ocean Master

The Shark

Thanatos

The Deep Six could fight him, from the Fourth World.

Charbrydis (Spelling?) who took his hand in the comics.

Umm... I'm blanking right now.

Black Manta is a much cooler character to me than Ocean Master, I hope we get to see the day where there's an aquaman solo where the villain is Black Manta

I want that too. Work Khaldur into the plot as well. that could be awesome.

They shouldn't hold anything back for a sequel though, they should go all out on the first one. Manta + Ocean Master vs Aquaman, Mera, Khaldur

That seems like to much interpersonal ground to cover. Plus I think it's better to build up to things like the loss of the hand, Marriage to Mera, Death of Arthur jr. by Black Manta, the reveal of Kaldur/Jackson/Aqualad as Manta's son. That's me though. I understand the desire to see it all at once, given that it's possible a future film could be AM's only shot for a long time.

Btw, thanks for the link to AM's enemies. I had forgotten a crap ton of them or wasn't familiar in the first place. There are also it seems a lot of silver age one off wacky types. (No, really, there is one guy named Wackyman:ikyn) I also reminded me that DC should reprint David's Atlantis Chronicles and mine some of that for the DCCU Aquaman mythos.

In terms of the cameos, all I need to see is a bat-computer montage of the other heroes in a quick scene of the movie. That way, they don't take away from the main characters while also giving us the wow factor of seeing the characters in action on screen
