Just came out of this, this might be the greatest action movie of all time. Im not kidding around here. That honor used to belong to the Raid movies but Good God Almighty this was just pure bonkers. The action in this is almost exhausting and i dont mean that in a bad way but it is RELENTLESS. Just when you think a fight is just about done, more baddies come out the woodwork for John to annihilate. The action is so well choreographed and staged and brutal.
Here’s my only complaint: the story. Now normally this wouldnt bother me much in a movie like this but there were admittedly moments where i wasnt as invested in watching Keanu eviscerate these people because I was losing track of Wick’s motivation and what the stakes were. I would like there to be more personal stakes next time so that the kills feel more satisfying. I dont want an award winning script I just want to feel stuff is at stake during the action scenes is all.
But people make no mistake this movie is just the bees knees of action. I’m an action film junkee and i’m hard to please with this stuff and I very often leave action movies saying “that was good but the fights could’ve been choreographed better and they should’ve been longer.” Not this one. This was the first time in a long time I was oversatisfied. You cannot possibly walk out of this unfulfilled with the action because theres so much of it and its all so visceral and the set pieces go on and on. And these are some of the best staged fights hand to hand combat and gun fights ever put on film. Again, this is neck and neck with Raid 1 and 2 for best action movie of all time.
