I was certain at the end when the
Assassin SWAT team swarms the Continental, Winston was going to play “Spybreak” by Propellerheads over the speakers and we’d get the gunfight to that song.
That wouldve been an awesome callback. Lol

Haha yeah or Wake Up by Rage Against the Machine but Vivaldi is much more up the Continental street, ha.

Question: Would one have to have seen the second one to understand this one? I want to see this in theaters but have almost to no time to catch up and watch the second one with grad school and all.

Yes. Both 1 and 2 are on Netflix at the moment if you have a subscription.

I wouldn't exactly say it is necessary. They go over what happened in 2 pretty well in 3. You can still easily enjoy 3 without seeing 2.

I would recommend seeing the second one first, but you can always find a recap video online

No they're not

No they're not

Thanks for the responses, I'll find time to watch the 2nd one. Completely missed it when it came out.

And yeah, they're not on Netflix. At least not in the U.S.

Funnily enough, this is one of the few franchises I really like but have never watched it outside of my original theater viewing. Not even clips. Just finished the first for the first time since it came out, forgot how much I loved it.

Just saw Chapter 3 today. Enjoyed it more than the second but the first is still my favorite. :)

That's what I thought as well. Better than Chapter 2 but the first is still the best. But while this one did have some incredible action scenes, I felt that the second half wasn't as strong as the first.

I guess I’m in the minority in that I enjoyed Chapter 2 more than this. I don’t know. This movie is fun but after a while it just gets kind of monotonous. Like, Halle Berry shows up for like 20 minutes but just spends most of that time killing about a hundred redshirts. It’s cool but I was hoping for more with her character. And John kind of comes off like a dope in this movie. It’s like, everyone on earth is apparently trying to kill him so, I don’t know, maybe try and disguise yourself a bit? At least put a hat on and an overcoat? And I know they aren’t going for realism in this series but this one just flat out takes it to the point of utter absurdity. There’s one thing that happens with John towards the end (if you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about), that just made me go, “Oh, come on!”

That said, some of the fight sequences are flat out amazing; that huge knife fight towards the beginning is quite a standout. The fights with Dacascos and the Raid guys are also great and their characters are a lot of fun. I also enjoyed Asia Kate Dillon’s Adjudicator character. And Halle is good in her scenes, just wanted more of them.

One last question. What the **** accent was Bronn doing in this movie?

I also like 2 better, even though this movie was a TON of fun and the action scenes were mindblowing...thats all there was with barely any story holding them together. What i absolutely loved about 2 is that its a survival film and the stakes feel incredibly high once the hit is put out on John in act 2 of the film. In Parabellum, it starts of AMAZINGLY and incredibly tense because its building off of how 2 ended but then you kind of become numb to the action after a while because there is just so damn much of it and little plot.

Yeah. The Double Toasted guys kind of hit the nail on the head in their review. They basically said that the movie is about nothing and that you start to not even care about John because you realize that literally nothing can kill him.

I am anxious enough about the dogs in those movies, I don't need to worry about John too, that would be too much :D

In the next one they need to give John an adversary that is his equal. He should go up against a hitman that really f***s his s*** up and allows John to really get angry and cut loose. Up until now we’ve seen John relatively calculated an surgical. What happens when a man like that is unhinged?

Yeah hopefully they can come up with someone. The closest John came to losing a fight was in the first one against that guy who beat him in the night club but then ended up getting killed in the rematch.

I think he would be done if Sofia ordered her dogs to go after him, I was laughing so hard when he was sitting on the couch and they were guarding him, staring :lmao:

I didn't know that Chapter 2 was divisive. I liked it. And I just got back from Chapter 3 and I liked it too. Although I do think it's the worst one. They pretty much go in order for me 1, 2, 3.

I am a bit worried about the franchise though. Haven't they basically said that will go on basically until the wheels fall off? I think that's a poor way to run a franchise. Especially when these are so serialized.

I just saw 3 and really enjoyed it. It was better than 2 but not by much. First is still the best, imo.
Lots of action but it did get monotonous. Ending was very interesting. Definitely looking forward to 4.
