How would Robin fit into Nolan's universe?

I think Dick Grayson could quite easily fit into the Nolanverse. Perhaps not Robin, at least not straight away, but having the character of Dick Grayson, a young man who's lost his parents in a way similar to Bruce, perhaps Bruce even feels responsible, so Bruce gives him a place to live. Then, perhaps instead of having him as a yellow and red clad sidekick, he can be more like a potential protege. That would be pretty cool, especially give Bruce something meaningful to pay attention to as Bruce Wayne, giving him someone in his life he cares about again, after having lost Rachel.

We've had this discussion in the Robin thread...at great lengths.

Dick Grayson could easily be someone Bruce takes in. We all know he'll become Robin eventually in Batman lore but Nolan doesn't have to do that. We can just imagine that happening later on, when after this trilogy ends.

"Can't continue blowing up the bubble."

:awesome:

I'm not saying it's true....I'm just relaying what a local comic shop manager said he heard from a crew member that was shooting on the street where his shop is. Like I said, don't shoot the messenger, but it's obvious that a few people around here allowed their heads to get a little big!

rayne you provided solid coverage during the pittsburgh filming so i believe what you heard, but that doesn't mean i believe the info. either way good stuff.

I don't think there is a Robin in the Nolanverse.
But I wouldn't rule out someone picking up the mantle if Bruce for some reason or another couldn't. That his ideal would endure. That The Bat would become a legend.

I think JGL is too old to be Robin from what Nolan said back in 2005

"This is a young Batman, so Robin's a few films....not for a few pictures anyway. Dick Grayson's still in a crib somewhere. I seriously doubt I will even be involved when Robin's in the franchise" says Nolan.

I think the Robin origin story is fertile ground for whatever Batman film comes in the future. But for this film, I don't see it happening.

New trilogy somewhere in the future should start right out the bat with an established Batman that witnesses the Flying Grayson's deaths in the first act and the whole first film is Dick becoming and training for Batman and also doing detective work into his parent's killer and aiding Batman behind the scenes. He doesn't even help fight, till the end, his "graduation" per-say into the Robin identity.

A bore as I may sound. But Dick shouldn't be Batman's side-kick. Training him as a protege, but not a side-kick.

I know the source (Rayne's source, not Rayne) is shaky so speculation at this point may be moot, but I'll throw a theory out there. Could the story be partially true? Could JGL be playing a Jean Paul Valley character but instead of an implausible "avenging angel" zealot he's a cop that maybe skirts the law to help batman? And while not robin he does end up taking over for bruce wayne at some point?

Again, a good chance the comic book owner was incorrect for whatever reason, but I think this seems more plausible than robin in the context of Nolan's movies.

That would be kind of cool if he played that Jean Paul Valley kind of replacement Batman. It could be the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman for this series. I dunno i just like speculating about it.

I agree. A movie with an established Batman could use Dick Grayson as that fish out of water character so that they could resestablish old elements to new audiences. Similar to All Star Batman and Robin....goddamn it :awesome:

So...Robin Begins, basically.

I'd watch a movie about Batman and Robin where Robin was more the main character.

I would too simply because its different. Though i think it has to be its own kind of universe and kind of continuity. I would def not want it in the style of Nolan's. Though I dunno how i could visually handle a young robin either.

This was my thread that was closed. Sorry, should've posted it here:

Hi all. PLEASE take this as rumor. I'm simply going to relay the story as it was told to me.

So I started a new job in downtown Pittsburgh on Monday near Smithfield St. For those that know Pittsburgh, they filmed here and on Cherry Way, which I have a view of from my office window. At the corner of Smithfield & the Blvd of the Allies, there is a small comic shop.

I went in for the first time yesterday and started talking to the guy who runs it, and he was telling me about some of the crew who came into the shop. This is what he told me:

He said that a weapons prop crew member was in the shop talking about the filming, and said that ROBIN WAS BEING INTRODUCED IN THIS FILM.

I repeat, he said that ROBIN WAS BEING INTRODUCED IN THIS FILM.

I asked him who he said would be playing him, and he said, "The dark-haired guy from 3rd Rock From the Sun."

That, of course, is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I pressed him for more details and he said that Bruce Wayne will "retire" as Batman, and that JGL will take up his cause as Robin. He did not say if this was mid-film (meaning Batman would return, making sense so far from what we know) or if this is how the film would end.

Now, this comic shop manager didn't seem to know much about the filming...he didn't even know who JGL was. I asked him if Robin would be in full costume, and he said that he would be in full costume "in the next film". We know that Nolan doing another Bat-film is pretty much not going to happen. So PLEASE take this with a grain of salt, as he could've easily been confused or mislead (perhaps intentionally). Don't shoot the messenger.

That all being said, this would be fairly Nolan-esque; mislead us all about JGL's non-DC character, all the while revamping Robin's origin as a police officer turned vigilante sidekick. Perhaps his parents are killed at the Gotham Rogues game? And this could be why he's seemingly assisting Batman in scenes so far? And perhaps all of the Bane/Catwoman/Batwing leaks are to conceal bigger turns in the story, namely Talia & Ra's & Robin?

Again, don't shoot the messenger, but I thought this was info worth sharing!

deleted b/c this story is gaining more widespread traction

I'd also like to add that IF this rumor ends up being true, I'll have...

#1. Felt bad for revealing it and spoiling it for the filmmakers.
#2. Having heard it and spoiled it for myself.

I love the insider knowledge, but at the same time, it sucks....I can't imagine seeing the film, with all we know now about Talia, the BatWing, Liam Neeson, and possibly Robin.....how much better it'd be and how much more surprised I'd be watching it.

The cost of being a :ninja: I guess :(
