The Dark Knight Rises Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake V

I'm not sure about the history of other Robins fully but it would seem THIS Robin is just a 4th or 5th version of Robin. We've had Grayson, Todd, Drake and now Blake. All different origins and reasons for being Batman's "sidekick"

One of the ninjas 6 months ago said that even after seeing the movie we'd still be arguing over whether Blake was Robin. How right he was.

I thought so too...but firstly, maybe it's important that Batman is considered dead. I mean, they built a memorial statue already. Secondly...even though he gave the mansion to the orphans (the Bat X-Academy? t, and the cave and everything to Blake....what's left and what kind of resources will Blake have to keep updating and re-equipping like Wayne did when he was swimming in dough? He left his job as a cop, so there goes that job....unless I missed a major pile of secret money that was left him. So with tat in mind, it also makes more sense that he'd establish his own separate crimefighter identity from Batman, even though he's clearly the successor.

Maybe I completely misunderstood (which is totally possible), but wasn't something along said along the lines of Gotham knowing who Batman was? I need to go watch it again. I think I was in awe of what was actually going down on screen to fully digest everything about the story. Anyways, it seems like if that was the case, the Blake would create his own Batman-like identity.

I'm just personally annoyed none of Blake's fellow cops didn't call him a "Dick". Least Nolan could have done as a nod to the fans.

I don't disagree with you there. He's a bit perfect. They kept calling him a hothead when he wasn't. His only real interesting element is giving up the "structure" of the system, but that gets tossed in there late in the film. He feels more like a thematic/plot device than a person.

He was a hothead. He constantly questioned and called out his superiors. He may not have been a guns blazing renegade, but that wouldn't be realistic. In the real world, questioning authority like he did is enough to get the label hothead. I loved Blake's character.

I'm pretty sure that's why the "Robin" line was included in the film.

No, it was a callback to the scene between Gordon and Blake in the beginning of the movie. "They know who saved the city... it was the Batman".

I see Blake more of Gordon AND Bruce, it's makes me think of Dick Grayson as Nightwing in the comics. I dug the name reveal because I would've never expected in my life for Nolan...after all the interviews he's done where he states he doesn't want Robin in his films... having a Robin type character. The last 15 mins of that movie made me forget all the minor problems I had with the film prior.

I still wonder what happened to The Joker during this whole period of time this movie covers. No way he'd just sit in his cell with everything going on. I kind of think that maybe Nolan's intention was to bring The Joker back for the 3rd movie due to what The Joker said to Batman at the end of TDK, but Ledger's death made him rethink TDKR's choice of villain and plot direction.

You see, stuff like this is why I want a graphic novel for lingering plotthreads. I'd love a comic about what Joker was up to between movies and during The Dark Knight Rises. I'd also love a comic about what happens to John Blake. I have no idea where to stand on what identity he'll choose. I'd like to see something about that.

I'm thinking Joker was in Arkham which is why the decided to free the prisoners in Blackgate

That's probably quite realistic. I guess I'm just used to Joker escaping all the time in everything by now. Not sure why Scarecrow was locked up in Blackgate and not Arkham, though. He was pretty loony by the end of Begins and I assumed he still was in TDK. Also loved that his beat up jacket in this looked like it was full of straw. All he needed was the mask. Just for kicks.

Well Crane was pretty much a drug dealer in TDK when he got caught so I guess that's the reason why he's in Blackgate.

We never saw Arkham in TDK let alone in TDKR, who knows if it's been moved outside of Gotham....maybe on a island?

Let's be honest Joker screwed over everybody in TDK...why would you try to have someone like that on your team?
They had a carefully enacted plan that took months and years to set up. Joker would have made a mess of things

Wow, I just came from seeing the film. Nolan said he would never put Robin in the films but from the very beginning it felt to me as if he was doing his best to incorporate elements of Dick into Blake. The character get ALOT of cous and I didnt quite understand why. Going intot he end, I thought this movie could serve as a great origin story for Robin and then the twist at the end reveals that that is his name. If they didnt reveal Bruce to be alive, I could see Blake taking on the Batman mantle on a future film. Surely we might get a spinoff right? With him throwing his badge away and Gotham rebuilding itself, it seems as if the end lends itself to at least a Nightwing film. It would be a shame if this is how the Nolan Batmaverse ends bc it felt so much more like a preview of things to come than a finale

He freed blackgate because it was dedicated to Harvey Dent and he found out Harvey killed all those men batman took the blame for, and felt the prisoners dent put away should be freed, and he used them as part of his squad

I'm fine with his name being Robin, as I mentioned before it was kind of near that certain characters who look exactly as their comic counterpart (Two-Face and Catwoman) are only addressed as Harvey Dent and Selina Kyle...nevermind thay Gordon simply calls him Harvey Two Fave as to bring up the joke MCU had about him.

Blake essentially is a Robin in every way shape or form, but he is NAMED the actual comic counterpart though never he never wears a costume.

I really liked that.
