Justice League Status Updates Thread - Part 1

This is all on WB at this point. I'd have to take off my shoes to count all the failed DC property projects that WB let sit around.

I want them to do this, but it should NOT be a reaction to Avengers, because if it is, it's going to suck, and that's the truth. A JL movie should be a natural evolution not something that's decided in a board room full of bean counters.

Now having said that I'm a huge Castle fan so I know Beall is a good writer. Is he Joss Whedon? no, but I believe in giving people chances.

However all in all this is a huge uphill battle for WB, because it's most certainly going to be seen as an imitation.

After reading that Berlanti and his crew are still involved with The Flash, and now Wonder Woman, why does WB have such a hard-on for these dudes. They HAVE NOT DELIVERED thus far. That includes the Berlanti produced/written Wrath of the Titans.

Easy, don't do the stand alone thing, commit to a full on trilogy Lord of the Rings style.

It is odd they're still working with those guys. Though, wasn't GL an issue of WB execs getting too involved? The original script wasn't that great, but I thought it was better than what we ended up with. Maybe with Flash and WW, others can help improve them.

That's too great of a risk, I think.

Really? These guys put out Nolan's Batman and Watchmen, they're putting out Cloud Atlas. They're definitely not averse to risk. Putting Batman & Superman in the same film is guaranteed cash.

I can't really defend him on the GL front, but surely you realize he probably had next to nothing to do with the final product of Wrath of the Titans. It was a "Story By" credit only.

Batman is Batman. That risk is justified with good marketing.

Watchmen seems to have happen because of how well 300 did and they thought its success and Snyder's name would be good enough. Also the fanboy hype.

Isn't Cloud Atlas more of an award-bait kind of film? Is it even that expensive?

How often do you hear about trilogies just being made all together these days?

Cloud Atlas is a more than $100 million budgeted, R rated film in the vein of The Fountain. Believe me they're taking a huge risk on it. 300 itself was a risk.

Sadly not enough. But it's them who did Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

Put me in the camp that doesn't give a **** about this latest development.

The thing is, if they go the solo movie route first then we won't see a JLA movie until 2018 at the earliest. Some of you may be that patient but i'm not! Of course by then Avengers 3 will be out and there might not be the same level of excitement as there was this summer. Not to mention if they really screw up with one of the solo movies like they did with Green Lantern then it could put the whole JLA movie offtrack, again.

I'm excited but worried at the same time. Worried because time after time WB just screw up their DC movies. Just look at this list :csad:

I don't want a JLA movie, unless it's animated like the DCUO cenimatic trailer. It's way too early for a live action film. If there's going to be solo movies for the remainder of the Justice League before JLA is made, they will be rushed and most, if not all of them, will fail. Take The Avengers for example. Iron Man did fine, Captain America and Thor were rushed, Hulk didn't have much success, Hawkeye and Black Widow were just thrown in the mix. Eventhough the Avengers movie is a box office success, it's not really watchable after a couple of times. It's no different than a cartoon episode shown in live action. As much as I would love to see Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and GL (done correctly), these characters need time to succesfully develop on their own. If JLA were animated, not only would it raise the bar once again for superhero movies, it would be an amazing experience to see something like that on the big screen.

I don't think they should follow the same pattern as Marvel. They could make a great JLA movie, then make some solo movies with heroes people will be more familiar with, thanks to the JLA movie. they may want to know more about Aquaman after seing him in action in the JLA.

Bahaha! DC is doing a Justice League movie now?

Personally, what I think they should do is the same thing they're doing for Man of Steel. Get Chris Nolan attached in some way and ****e his name "Dark Knight" and "Inception" all over this.

Never seen anything by this writer, so I can't exactly complain, or sing his praises. All I know is that he wouldn't be my first choice.

And as for Flash and Wonder Woman being scripted by the GL guys. Are you dense? Are you ******ng ******ed? They're the goddamn GL guys! They ruined a perfectly good GL script.

I don't have a lot of confidence in WB to make Justice League work. Even with Marvel it was still a possibility that The Avengers could have been a disaster.

The WB execs will ruin the Justice League movie. Like how they ruined Green Lantern by interfering with it. The Man Of Steel remains to be seen. I have no faith in the WB with this. The WB execs can not not leave these movies alone

Maybe their bean counters figured the release date, concept, and Wachowski name would help turn a profit and gain some award nominations.

Yeah, 300 was a risk as any big film tends to be and good marketing helped with that. If I remember correctly, there was something said about WB telling Snyder they weren't even sure how the film did well but hoped the same could be done with Watchmen.

Just to be clear, when you say commit to a trilogy like Lord of the Rings, do you mean shoot three films at once? If so, that's what I was talking about it being too much of a risk. I mean, those films were based on popular books that help sell the film already. Imagine if they shot three films for GL.

If your just talking about planning to make at least three films, that seems pretty standard. Though, HP was different given the number of books, of course. DC-based films supposedly were/are going to take their place. But, that remains to be seen.

WB is at it again. What's this the third time they have announced this?

So WB is considering Justice League, Flash and WOnder Woman movies still. Let's whine about it because it's not exactly what we wanted. At this point I just don't care anymore about whether there are solo films leading to a Justice League movie, or a Justice movie leading to solo films. I want to see DC's superheroes on film.

And thank goodness is appears WB is willing to take more risks than fanboys are.

"They'll screw it up, why even try?"

I said it elsewhere, but I think it's a good sign that Berlanti and his team are still involved. It means WB trusts them. It's apparent that GREEN LANTERN's issues were largely studio/budget related. The original script for GREEN LANTERN was pretty good. If those writers are still involved, then it means WB has confidence in them, and hopefully won't be messing too much with the story and script this time around. Otherwise, the writers would likely have been removed from DC superhero projects, and new ones brought in.

I don't get this whole "WB will screw it up". WB got Green Lantern right, they just didn't quite nail the approach to making his villains work on film or all the specifics of his origin.

No one at WB has come out and said we'll see THE JUSTICE LEAGUE first. For all we know, MAN OF STEEL does well, and we'll see THE FLASH and WONDER WOMAN and THEN the JLA movie.

There's more than one way to make this happen. Yes, Marvel's approach worked, but their approach worked for two main reasons:

1. Most people didn't know much, if anything. about Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury. You cannot say that about Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman.

2. Building hype in terms of the connections between movies, and the buildup to The Avengers. It's not like a JLA film can't be hyped.

It's a little sad that because something worked, that now that's the only way fans will accept a superhero franchise. I don't think the solo films are all that neccessary to introduce these larger than life characters. For instance, I just started reading the new 52's JUSTICE LEAGUE: ORIGIN. There's almost no introduction to the characters in terms of their solo worlds. Wonder of wonders, by the end of it, I had a pretty good idea of who they were anyway. Anyone who can't see how these characters can be established within a JLA movie, in my mind, has little to no imagination.

How the heck is WB rushing things with this? The Justice League writer has been aboard for a year, and we know Berlanti has been on Flash for a while, and that Wonder Woman has been in development for some time.

The bottom line is, either they're going to make good Justice League and solo hero films, or they're not, and either people will be interested in it, or they won't.

"I just want Flash, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. Come on, WB!"
"WB is making Flash, Wonder Woman, and Justice League."
"Awwww **** them. They're gonna **** it up!"

I'm in the team go for it WB!

I'm looking forward to whatever movie they're planning to do.

This may be a little outside the box and unpopular but...what if WB did a CGI Justice League full length movie instead. You know, something in the vein of The Incredibles or the Green Lantern animated series they have out now. Toy Story's proven that there is much much money to be made in animated movies and i feel like they'd have alot more creative freedom in terms of special effects that they might not have been able to do in live action. I figure it'll also be cheaper but i could be wrong about that.

I dunno, it just seems like a potentially simplier approach?

DC dosent announce any movies being made:

"MArvel's kicking your ass! You only care about Batman and Superman! WAHHH!"

DC announces its trying to make a Justice League flick, reminds people they're still trying to make WW and Flash films:

"DC is rushing things! They'll screw this up! WAHHH!"

Jesus Christ.

"I just want Flash, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. Come on, WB!"
"WB is making Flash, Wonder Woman, and Justice League."
"Awwww **** them. They're gonna **** it up!"
You're conflating two different groups of people.

"I just want Flash, Wonder Woman, and Justice League. Come on, WB!"
"WB is making Flash, Wonder Woman, and Justice League."
"Awwww **** them. They're gonna **** it up!"

Ah ****, you beat me to it.

Seriously though, all this whining is ****ing annoying, because its from the same people who cried about DC "Not doing anything". Only confirms what I've thought for the longest time: people just like ******** about whatever WB/DC does.
