James Cameron could make that work, if he would agree to do such a movie (but he won't)as for who could direct the big JL movie I have no idea who could make that work.
James Cameron isn't for hire anymore
Aquaman is the DC superhero that suits him the most!Besides even if he was we all know the one DC property he'd truly fit like a glove with is Aquaman.
Produced by and Starring Leo DiCaprio.

Sounds good as hell to meProduced by and Starring Leo DiCaprio.![]()
^ People mention him for the role because his production company had the movie rights to Aquaman.
Don't know if that's still the case though.
my friends who are non-comic book fans know the dc characters more than the marvel ones anyway.... so not a big deal.
Hmm..I guess your not following me Racy.
It comes down to the bottom line. Which is money.
It's going to cost a TON of money to make a "team" movie.
Then a TON of money (equal to the making of the movie) to promote the movie.
The fun of the Avengers was that all the characters had their own lil movie that told their origins and then led directly into the marketing of the Avengers movie. That was the whole gimmick if you will.
The "ensemble" cast coming together to make the epic "uber" movie.
Now could you make a JLA movie without having the characters established. yeah.
But it wont have that 'magic' feel to it that the Avengers had. Plus you end up eating away at valuable movie time telling the individual characters storylines within the JLA movie. Which you would HAVE to do in some characters cases.
Which brings us back to money. Could ya do it? Yeah. But if you cut corners in a hope to duplicate the "Avengers" success (After spending a ton to make it and a ton to promote it)....it's going to fail.
The "Avengers" was a movie that did just about everything right. Including the build-up/marketing.
Did some people (Like your friends) who weren't familiar with the characters go see it? Sure.
Did the MAJORITY of people that saw it also see at least two of the OTHER individual (and successful) movies. You bet!
That's why its the number 3 movie of all time. And not suffering the same fate as "John Carter".

Not a problem, Warner Brothers makes 30% more money than Disney per year on average.

I think most of the fun would have come from seeing several heroes grouped together, the crossover aspect was played similarly to "Iron Man & Friends". Building of that franchise being a success.

Neither Harvey Dent nor Joker were established in The Dark Knight, you jumped right into the middle of Harvey's Mayoral campaign and Joker terrorising Gotham. Different circumstances, but the principle is the same.
Superman and Batman are the two biggest superheroes in the world. No one comes close to their iconography, Spider-Man would be a distant third. Neither of those two characters would require any build up, I doubt there is even a single movie goer who wouldn't recognise the Superman and Batman logos. Just having those two together in a live action setting would guarantee money, even more with Christian Bale's Batman.
Also, some of the GA will have grown up on:

Some of them will know that the Justice League is "Batman's Avengers".

You should do that in every character's case. But I'm not seeing your point.
Avengers had individual storylines going on: Banner's acceptance of Hulk, Captain's "fish out of water", Tony's "you can't live as an island", Thor's ongoing feud with Loki, Fury's desperation to do his job and the love story between Natasha and Barton.
All supplementary to the main threat of Loki and the Chitauri invading Earth to retrieve the Cube for Thanos.
Which brings us back to money. Could ya do it? Yeah. But if you cut corners in a hope to duplicate the "Avengers" success (After spending a ton to make it and a ton to promote it)....it's going to fail.
Firstly, cut what corners?
Secondly it has yet to be seen whether it would fail, it is arguable that Avengers is all the marketing a Justice League film would require and the rest can be handled on the backs of Superman and Batman.

I don't know anyone that hasn't heard of Superman or Batman, so there we go, no problem here either.

I doubt they cared about The Avengers though. No one in the general audience is going to care about an after credits scene from a film almost half a decade preceding the big event or a subplot two years before it. I bet no one cared until after Captain America's credits. Odds are if a Justice League film is made people will assume something will have happened in The Dark Knight Rises and Man Of Steel and they just missed it.
That's why its the number 3 movie of all time. And not suffering the same fate as "John Carter".
Disney also made John Carter, so it goes to show the Disney method doesn't work for everything.
