Affleck apparently declined to even be involved with anything comic booky for a minute, but WB sweetened the pot with that creative control and possible shot at directing other installments. Money is good, but having clout is the better long term investment.

Ummm? I don't know what to do with those toss salads and scrambled eggs? They're calling again.....

I missed this article, can you post a link? thanks

They're saying it's implied, but no one has said that's what the deal is yet. I should say possible creative control.

It's nice to think that kind of thing might still be part of a gentleman's agreement, but one must suspect that Affleck's agent either got it into the contract or didn't.

I mean hell, if Snyder sits back and lets Benjamin handle some of the more pathos driven parts, let him go to work.

It was just rumblings from other fanboy sites. Wishful thinking.

Ah, thanks. Definitely looks like logical speculation instead of actual news. Ah well :-/

By "fresh take", do you mean "black"? Or is there something nuanced about Elba that you think foreshadows a particularly radical approach to the characterization?
Fresh take doesn't mean black specifically, mainly younger. But like I said, there's something about Elba's demeanor that would feel very new to the cinema version of Lex. It would be very focused and obsessive. Something Cranston certainly could pull off, but I dunno why, I'm just sick of old white man Lex. At least a younger Lex would bring something new to the table, no matter what race.

Denzel Washington is one of the best actors out there, he would be very good as Luthor.

But I think if he was cast, it will draw comparisons to Affleck's Daredevil where Micheal Clark Duncan was cast as the Kingpin.... and I'd rather not remember that film anymore when thinking of the new Batman.

It's not even about Cranston, it's that fanboys always got some dream fan casting in their heads and if it's not fulfilled anyone else is less than to them. You'd be an idiot to complain about one of the greatest actors we have doing it in the business right now considering this role. If all you know him from is that godawful Total Recall and Breaking Bad do some homework. I've seen people lobbying for Mark Strong who is an excellent actor but don't pretend it's partly not because he's already bald either.

I actually know Cranston from Malcom and Seinfeld as well as Breaking Bad now.

I really don't want to come across as a troll here but I have no interest at all in this movie or any future Superman and/or Batman movie.

I was just shocked about Cranston's casting because this seems like such a silly project to me, one on which he'd be wasted, and also because it seems like such a typecast. He's got so much goodwill from Breaking Bad, he could do anything and he chooses THIS?

I think they're just wanting him to play some variation of Heisenberg and I'm afraid he'll end up being a BatClooney.

Anyway, just needed to get that out.

I hope everyone enjoys the movie.

I'll catch up with it. I never watch TV when it airs, apart from news and sport, so I tend to get given a wall of DVD box sets every Christmas or birthday. I still have Broadwalk Empire unopened.

Well, you're in for a ride whenever you do get a chance to catch up.

I personally would have rather had Michael Shannon cast as Lex instead of Zod.

I disagree. With all due respect to MCD, he was not a decent enough actor for Kingpin. He had certain roles that were perfect for him, but that wasn't one of him. I don't think having Denzel (an amazing and versatile actor) would draw such comparisons.

I wouldn't say Affleck was outright refusing. He is a comic fan, and though he was burned with his experience on Daredevil, even a year back during press junkets for Argo he was talking about how he'd like to be involved in another superhero movie if the right project came along.

meh, I am hoping for someone that can pull off early 40's for Lex. Cranston looks like he could be Lex's Daddy. :D
