Billy Zane for the win.
Don't say he sucks!!

Did he give a bad performance in Titanic?

While I think Cranston might make a great Luthor. He is not the big name actor that could bring in the GA. Like Heath Ledger go out of the box and get a truly big name...DiCaprio. At first I laughed at the idea of him playing Lex. But, the more I thought about it. It would be great casting. He can play a mid-30's corporate ceo who is horrified and annoyed that this "alien" is upstaging him in his city.
Cranston is as big as Ledger was.

Even my mother knows him from MITM :oldrazz:

I'm going to introduce her to BB.

Cranston is in the prime of his career. Cast him, he's bald and a badass.

People only say Zane because he's bald. LOL it's a joke. He sucks and he's a has been. If he went through his entire career with hair, people would NEVER in a million years suggest him. Fanboy casting at its best.

Billy Zane is not a has been. You have to actually have been something in the first place to be a has been.

Can't see Cranston as Lex. I don't want Grandpa Luthor. With his cane of Kryptonite... a Kane.

yeah i dont think so ledger was already had an oscar nomination from a highly popular movie before tdk

and he lead/co lead alot of films like broke back mountain ,monsters ball,a knight's tale,Candy,Lords Of Dogtown,Casanova, etc

George Clooney would make an awesome Lex imo. He's a big star with Oscar cred. He can play suave and charismatic as well as dark and cutthroat. It's not like he's out of shape either. He could convincingly play a man of wealth and intelligence. George Clooney is a man that I could see running for President. Hell, he already played a man running for President in The Ides of March.

Clooney had never occurred to me before this post. Lex has to be likeable enough for everyone to be fooled by him (except us the audience) and Clooney has the looks and presence to absolutely sell this. I honestly don't think his role in Batman and Robin would make a difference, its from another time.

has clooney ever played the villain before? he's played the good bad guy, but not a straight up villain.

you know what'd be funny, and spark fanboy chaos? if lex wasn't in the movie.

Damian Lewis checks all my boxes:
1) Natural redhead
2) Excellent Actor (See Band of Brothers and Homeland)
3) Has experience playing outwardly virtuous all American hero characters, who are secretly dark and violent (Homeland)
4) Tall and athletic
5) Late 30s/Early 40s
6) Currently Bald

good choice.

How about Mel Gibson? I saw him in the Batman thread and when I thought about him hr seemed like a better fit for Lex. Is this silly?

Damian Lewis is a fantastic suggestion.

actually thats a really good choice

It could be genius. The Alien concept of Superman was sort of a euphemism for Jews.

Once Gibson finds this out and is cast, he could give one mighty believable performance as Lex - a man who hates aliens :o

This just brings back memories form "The Replacements".
"You're not even a has-been! You're a never-was!"

I know this is out of left field but I honestly think that Tom Cruise could do a great Lex; the reason I say this is because I watched collateral recently and Cruise played this assassin called Vincent who had the perfect balance of ruthlessness and charm, 2 things that lex luthor should always possess. We should also remember that Lex doesn't necessarly have to be evil, I think the lex that was portrayed in "lex luthor:man of steel" could work quite well on film.
If the team decide to add in Metallo to the story then I think Jason Statham could be a great choice.

Tom Cruise would do an awesome job I'm sure.

Exactly.:woot: Plus Mel Gibson brings the star power which is what I want for Lex.

It should easily be Bryan Cranston.

I just started getting into Breaking Bad, sure I can definitely see the resemblance between the two chracters, and a lot of fans would just love to see Heisenberg vs Superman, but am I not alone in thinking they could get an experienced actor with a really good amount of star power to the film? I mean sure Mark Strong and Bryan Cranston are great choices but they could do better, like someone in the same tier as Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner. I thought that was a stroke of genius in casting and surely they could do it again?

Tom Cruise would definitely be an interesting choice for Lex and would definitely raise some curiousity and interest from the GA. Tom Cruise was indeed ruthless and charming in Collateral and that's the sort I want which could fit the tone that MOS has going for it. Like Gibson, Tom Cruise brings the much needed star power for this film to work in my opinion. Statham, although a nice idea, said in an interview once that he wouldn't really go for these kinds of movies, and would prefer to stick to stuff like Expendables and Fast & Furious.
