BvS Lex Luthor Casting Thread - Part 2

He's popular, bald, and WB is after a huge star. Perfect.

Brown could do the public facade of Lex with ease, and I think it'd be really interesting to see him get out of his comfort zone as a villain

Exactly. I think people should shift their perceptions away from Brown's experimental early work, and focus more on his latent potential.

Question.

Why do people still think it's going to be Cranston?

Oh, I don't think it will be. The second I saw that the source of all the articles reporting he was cast was CBN I knew it was crap.

But I wouldn't mind seeing him get to take a swing at the role. To me, it doesn't really matter that he played a villain, it's that he played a very complex character very well. He's got the acting chops, and that's the most important part.

That's all I'm hoping for really, is that they get a good actor. And to clarify, also a very good script. Kevin Spacey is also a very good actor, but when you're directed to act a certain way by the director and the script, you can only do so much.

So I'm six episodes into the first season of Breaking Bad (I know, I'm a bit of a Johnny Come Lately), but so far it's been enough to convince me that I don't want Cranston as Lex Luthor. This guy has Jim Gordon written all over him.

That said, I'd still take him in a heartbeat over Mark Strong, only because the latter (while always a great villain) is too obvious a choice.

Even though I don't want cranston as luthor either, you wouldn't understand why people want him as lex until late season 3 or 4 easily.
But Yeah cranston as Gordon would be golden.

I'm sorry but this post just proves your ignorance in the first sentence. I don't think anyone watched season 1 of Breaking Bad and saw Lex Luthor in him. You have to get to the later seasons, Walter is still mostly a moral guy in season 1. You'll change your mind if you get into the later seasons

I think the choice is kind of obvious ;)

Here's your Lex. WB has the rights to him, and just look at the range: corporate, angry criminal, power suit. Elmer could own this role. When's the last time you saw Charlie Brown toting a gun?

That's the problem with choices like Fudd: though he would turn in a good performance, he is probably too obvious a choice. We are too used to him being a badass. What new would he bring to Luthor?

I think the audience would totally forget they were watching Brown when they experienced his Lex Luthor.

I still think Michael C. Hall would be a GREAT Luthor.

cranston could have been a pretty rad old as ****, dark knight returns type of batman.

Of the TV actors:

Damian Lewis: I know I said earlier that he would be a good casting for Lex, but I hadn't watched Homeland in a while and now that I watch more of it I realize that Damian Lewis is an awful choice for Lex. There is nothing intimidating about Damian Lewis. When he's angry, he's not intimidating. He is a whiner. He sounds like someone who is annoyed but in no way threatening.

Bryan Cranston: Firstly, let me say that he won't play Walter White in the SuperBat film. He will play Lex. There are glimpses of Lex in Walter White - if you watch the couple of episodes where Walter White is acting with great swagger and villainous intent. It is very rare, but it is there. He will bottle those glimpses and use it for the entirety of the SuperBat film. Plus he knows how to act like he's intelligent (very few can do this). He'd be an outstanding Lex.

Michael C. Hall: This guy is my choice for Lex. And he's very close to Lex when he plays Dexter. Forget the scenes where Dexter is behaving all happy-go-lucky, and just watch the scenes where Dexter is being himself (ruthless killer). That is Lex. Its a combination of calculating, brooding, extremely intelligent, intimidating. In addition, if the SuperBat script ever calls for Lex to time a joke.....Hall is great at that too.

It's a shame they can't get Kevin Spacey (I know he was crappy in SR but that was how the character was written). Imagine if he played Lex like his character in House of Cards....cold, calculating, manipulative.

Would Lex work better as a military contractor, a real estate mogul, or a mad scientist?

I don't know, maybe we should consult HULK REVIEWS?!!! Should I prepare a small animal to sacrifice for the privilege of speaking to the ALMIGHTY HULK?

Only just started watching Breaking Bad myself, just finished series 1 - had to laugh at the episode where Walt shaved his head, when Jesse saw him he said he looked like Lex Luthor! :woot:

Have to agree though, Cranston would make one hell of a Jim Gordon.

Cranston in first couple of seasons of BB is suited to Gordon. But not Cranston in the final 2 seasons of BB obviously. In other words, Cranston can play anyone he wants.
