Joaquin Phoenix looks like a carbon copy of both Lex and Superman. It's a shame that he'd never take a role in a superhero movie because he'd be perfect in whatever they cast him as

He said that on record?

Carbon copy of Superman? Really? That's almost as bad as Nic Cage as Superman. He'd be a good Lex though.

Phoenix would be worlds better than Cage, easily.

I think Brendan Fraser would have made a serviceable Superman back in the day. He'd have been a good "Disney" Superman for sure, not sure why I say that, he's just who I see playing him in a "Disney" Superman film.

Not my ideal by any means, but it may have worked in context.

Also, call me crazy, but I think Kevin Sorbo would have been a better Superman than Dean Cain, who he lost the part to:

Anyway, back to Luthor....I am kind of warming up to the idea of DiCaprio as Lex. I'd be cool with that I guess.

Celebrity genius business mogul Lex needs just pure on screen charisma. You have to buy that no one in the general public really has a clue as to how much of a cold hearted ruthless bastard Lex actually is. The actor chosen is going to need that. This version of Lex is like Steve Jobs, Howard Hughes, Einstein, Hawking and a touch of Trump all rolled into one times ten!

It they were going for a lighter more surreal Superman, then I could see it. Something like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow where it's very much a 40's style but with futuristic elements.

Think evil Tony Stark, but more science-y and less tech , or equal parts science and tech at least.

Throw in some fascination with the supernatural/"magic" as well.

Sounds like Smallville Lex without the Daddy issues, which is comic Lex essentially.

No, but he's very picky about his projects (not nearly as bad as DDL though) and has never done a franchise movie before so it's incredibly unlikely he would decide to do one now :csad:

Lex in the comics killed both his parents...more than daddy issues :hehe:

He has serious authority issues :o

LOL

True, but Lex's relationship with his parents hasn't been a big aspect of the character . I mean Smallville Lex was driven by his relationship with his father and it has an impact on his every decision.

Don't mean to be off topic here as well, but yea I think he would have been a great superman, he would have been able to add the humor and toughness, and charm to superman

Do you want to see Lex don the battle suit in the next movie, or just have him as the billionaire scientist?

Billionaire scientist.....I really don't wanna see lex do anything physical to superman himself, I prefer outsmarting him....and I kind don't want him to ever get caught until the end of the franchise

Knowing Snyder we will get the former, although I would prefer the latter. Honestly, I don't know how I feel about the idea of the new Lex being introduced in this movie. As much as the earlier films led to his overexposure, I feel like Lex done properly is Supes's greatest nemesis, at least in terms of themes and idea. I kind of worry that he would be wasted in a Batman/Superman movie since it's no longer a one-on-one conflict. The movie can't be about Superman and Lex. It's about Batman and Superman with Lex thrown in as an antagonist.

Nah, I'd rather Lex make Metallo as a physical threat for Superman. You can save the power suit for another time.

Nic Cage is actually a damn fine actor when he's not just taking whatever roles come his way to pay his tax bill. People would hate it even more than Ben Affleck, but I really wouldn't mind him doing it. Plus he's also a bit of a Superman nut.

I say hell with it, bring in Cage, have him inject a little fun into the movie and piss off all the fans.

Yep. Lex ended up becoming worse than Lionel, because he felt Clark hsd failed to save him from himself and just ended up taking all the lessons Lionel taught to close to his heart. ..Lex ended up hating everyone and everything.

In the comics, he murdered his parents to gain insurance money upon their deaths.

But more than that surely? He's a dictator and manipulator of people's lives. He wants complete control over his own life and other's, including Superman. This is because, as a child, he hated his parents for them leading him down a path he didn't want to go. He felt he had no freedom over his life and that would end up with him . being stuck in the slums til he died. His talent going to waste...
He hates anybody else controlling his life, so he takes control of other people's lives.
Lex wants complete and utter authority. On a dangerous level.

Snyder might be chomping at the bit to show Lex in the suit pounding away at Supes while monologue-ing up a storm. I don't really want to see that in a film introducing Lex into the MOS-verse. Leave that for a film where Luthor has already fallen from the public's good graces and is fully the "renegade genius" with plans for world wide dominion.

My feeling on Lex and Batman being in the film together are that they can work to further the themes from the first film about trust and Superman's relationship with humanity at large.
