People are saying that Mark Strong is too obvious a choice because he always plays bad guys, then suggest Christoph "the Jew Hunter" Waltz?

I think he proved people wrong about only being able to play a villain when he was in Django.

I know people are trying to find choices that are outside the box, but it seems like even your outside choices are pretty inside.

Wait, what??? They couldn't possibly be any more different.

Even if that were true, does that mean you had a problem with There Will Be Blood because Plainview is the same character as Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York?

Waltz's mannerisms and way of speaking were exactly the same in both films. The only difference, the thing that made the characters different, were his lines.

There are only so many established actors (because let's face it- if we all watched a huge spectrum of films we wouldn't be on a superhero discussion site), who have played similar enough roles, and have what is considered to be a superhero "look" to be considered by people who aren't casting agents.

If you suggest someone who doesn't fit usually 2/3 criteria, you'll either be ignored or dragged through the streets.

A few people have suggested Di Caprio. Can any of them explain why?

In all honesty, Lex is the one character who I actually don't want to be unknown now that I consider it. He should be pretty bigger than life yet subtle.

He's not my top choice, but I imagine Leonardo DiCaprio is getting suggested because he's a genuinely gifted actor with star power and an acclaimed villain performance in his recent filmography. I can definitely see the logic in people bringing his name up.

Snyder apparently wants a well known actor. ..

It makes sense. To have an establish actor not only adds prestige to the character, but the feeling of familiarity that the citizens of Metropolis have for him becomes mutual. THAT'S why I want an actor who plays against type. I want Lex to seem "out of character" and for audiences to feel shock when he turns out to be bad.

It'd be good for them to pull a Ledger on us.

To get an actor who we all love as the good guy or whatever in films ...then have that actor become the evil Lex Luthor that shocks the audience watching. So we'd get that same feeling that people do in the nocie when they see how evil their alleged saviour is!

That's why I like Di Caprio for the role. The only time I can remember ever seeing him play a villain was in Django Unchained.

He's a good actor. He can play arrogant, rich, edgy, evil and smart characters. He's a big name and a certified box office draw. Despite typically starring in Oscar bait films, he also starred in hit sci-fi action film not too long ago. Hell, he may even produce an Aquaman movie if that ever happens, so he's not averse to the superhero genre.

I understand that you don't like him, but there are plenty of reasons why landing an actor like DiCaprio would be a big win for this film.

I've said it before...After seeing Elysiym, he's not Lex to me. ...Jodie Foster on the other hand :D

It's the voice that holds me back...usually.

But I just watched a few clips of him in Django and was blown away by him. I can definitely picture him as Lex now :)

Why Di Caprio?

Look at inception! The Aviator... also Gatsby... all those personalities fused together would make an excellent lex.

Spacey is so awesome as lex if he wasn't forced to imitate hackman's lex. His work on se7en was very creepy. Lex needs to be creepy and able....

A lot of choices presented on this thread look really good.

NAUGHTY! You haven't seen Django!? A man must never skip over a Tarantino film! :yay:

Leo is a great actor. I'd be more than alright with him as Lex. He would kill it. I loved him in Django Unchained. He was fantastic.

Yeah Leo would be a little surprise, I loved his part in Django.
