I still can't imagine it really. The last thing I watched him in was WWZ and he just didn't strike me as having the same energy as he had when he was in Fight Club. Perhaps it is because he's older, but I just don't see that spark anymore.

I don't think his role in WWZ was meant for him be highly energized and or charismatic was it?

The Place Beyond The Pines proves nothing. He's nothing like Lex in that movie.... so I dunno where you're getting this choice from. It reeks of "flavor of the month" casting.

Anyways, that picture looks like Cooper so from a visual standpoint (a huge part of casting comic book characters) he fits the part. That's all I've been saying. No need to get pissy pal
You have no idea what you are talking about if you think I'm picking "Flavor of the Month's." You know who are overused picks? Brad Pitt, Leo, that guy from Green Lantern, Bryan Cranston, Benedict Cumberbatch and Idris Elba. Cranston, Cumby and Elba being the ultimate flavors of the month.

I hate most of you guys choices because they are boring and completely unimaginative and wrong for the role. Geez you even have people bringing up Bruce Willis because he is bald. Ugh this place.

Actually the McConagheys, Pitts and Coopers would be good choices for Lex I believe because it would be against type for them.

They are all used to playing the good charismatic guys....let see them do that....but be the intelligent wicked bad guy types also for once.

Or they could stop being in films, opening the door to more interesting and less overexposed actors.

Cooper is playing a Racoon over at Marvel he cannot be bothered with Lex Luthor. :p

It depends on the kind of Lex you want. In the end people are gonna complain no matter who they pick, and that's assuming he's gonna be in the film at all. If you pick an inside the box choice fans complain he's too predictable. If you pick an outside the box choice fans scream about it not being like the comics. If you pick a name that's been thrown around there's an issue with that. Its up to Snyder and WB anyway, so my hope is that if the Lex they chose falls into any of the 3 zones I mentioned, that he's good.

Meh...I'm not going to complain over any casting choices because I have to admit I was impressed with the cast of MOS. I thought Crowe would suck and for me he was one of the best parts. I'm going to give Synder and Co. the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Lex, but I personally hope he makes a bold choice.

The only casting choice that will make me scream is if I found out Halle Berry is back as Catwoman. I will lose my **** over that...lol

I will never agree that Pitt is the best choice for any role.

If they made a movie about Brad Pitt, I would cast someone else as him.

I think Halle could gave been great- noone could have come out of that movie with any credit. I would be interested to see her play a more mature Catwoman opposite Affleck's older Batman.

:lmao: That's cold Reg...lol

For me I have never thought she was all that great of an actress...and I hate her as Storm. She's serviceable, but I would not be interested in seeing that. Not at all.

Heh. Bradley Cooper is suggested just as much as those other people, dude. He's part of that list too...

Do you not pay attention to casting threads? He's been suggested for Flash, Batman, Green Lantern, Lex, Daredevil, Riddler, Aquaman, Steve Trevor, Green Arrow...the list goes on. He is the very definition of flavor of the month. Stop kidding yourself, Bradley Cooper isn't an imaginative choice, it's a pretty boring and tried one actually.

He's suggested just as much as any other people you've listed.

And he's not even a good choice. His acting style doesn't suit Lex at all. He'd be serviceable. Not imaginative or inspired by any stretch of the imagination. lol

I'm against the idea that any of the "flavor of the month" guys would be bad Lex Luthors. Probably because I see each one as being perfect for a specific interpretation of Lex's personality.

Cooper strikes me as an excellent charming Lex in the vein of Clancy Brown and Gene Hackman, a kind of Loki-caliber villain who can have fans in his corner even while doing horrible things.

McConaghey makes me think of an intensely jealous and intimidating Luthor who would appeal to fans through charisma and would have a thin but appreciable veneer of control and charm.

Matt Damon would probably be a great tragic villain Lex, believable and sympathetic but crushing because of his lack of faith in humanity and utter cynicism in comparison to even Batman.

Arguably, Lex is an even more adaptable role than the Joker, since really as long as he's smart and obsessed with defeating Superman, almost any skilled actor could shave their head and find some resonating core with which to portray the character.

Geeks have a very small reference pool regarding casting. We got like 7 or 8 actors we love and want them in everything.

And that's fine but don't be disappointed when those actors aren't interested in or for whatever reason don't play the role that you want them for.

I don't think Pitt deserves all the hate he gets. From a purely acting standpoint, he's above average IMO. But I also understand that being the typical tabloid celebrity movie star he is, it affects the perception of him in the actual movies.

I like Pitt. I just haven't seen him play any villainous characters that make me think he'd make a good Lex. I haven't seen Fight Club in a long time.

I don't hate Pitt at all and his personal life has nothing to do with my opinion of his on screen work. Do I perfer Pitt to the Taylor Kitsch's and Sam Worthington's of the world? Sure because he has actually given decent to good performances before but I still don't think that he is this great actor that 80% of moviegoers think that he is. It's not hate it's just a difference of opinion.

It's also an opinion that I don't want him for Lex Luthor because I don't think he is a great choice nor do I think he wants such a role.

Thanks for explaining nicely and reasonably. :) There could be so many less fights on the Hype if everyone explained their opinions like this. Kudos.

I love Brad Pitt :(

True Romance, Kalifornia, Fight Club, Se7en, Benjamin Button, Interview with the Vampire, Oceans Eleven, Inglourious Basterds, Burn After Reading, he was awesome in all of them

I think he's one of the most likable actors in Hollywood, and one of my favorites

Strangely, though we all have our favorites for Lex. I have a feeling we will all be surprised by Synder's choice. I was certainly surprised by the ones he made for MOS, but they all turned out well. I don't think there is one person in that movie who I didn't think fit their role in someway shape or form. I was even impressed with Meloni...who I'm not generally impressed by.

I am surprised that since production starts next year that we haven't heard the actor for Lex yet. They announced Affleck pretty much right away, so I'm wondering if Lex is even in this film at this point. Seems like we should have an actor if there was one. Yet again, I don't follow these sorts of things generally so what do I know?

Paul Walker, dudes.

I'm not surprised we haven't heard a casting choice for Lex. I think that they are trying to get who they are trying to get (a big star) and work out schedules. There is no need to cast Luthor right now. They could cast Luthor in February and it wouldn't surprise me. The Luthor actor is not going to get as much screentime as the leads anyway.
