Yeah, this is one where you have to keep it in perspective. It would be awesome news, but I gotta hold my horses. I do like that this is the direction they are going. That tells me a lot.

I can see opposing his name because they think his talents are better spent elsewhere or thinking that there's a only a tiny chance of him of signing on, but to think that he doesn't have the right look and/or talent and résumé to play Luthor doesn't go through my head at all. I'm sure there's also a crowd who got behind some fancasting of Bryan Cranston or someone else and will make some minor noise and hope he passes on the role. I never really had a favorite for the role.

For me it's probably the best piece of maybe-iffy-trade-rumor-news since before Comic Con, since I was thinking about Luthor coming out of the theater for MoS. I would've been even more excited had they not gone in the "DC universe movie" direction.

Getting Phoenix to sign on for one film would seem to be daunting enough, let alone maybe 2. WB would probably have to not be cheap on this and just pay the man what he wants if he wants to do it.

Before this rumor, I was sure I wanted Lex in multiple films. But if the price of getting Pheonix is only one movie, so be it. Just make it epic.

Commodus isn't really a Lex type role. Commodus was a spoiled dictator with delusions of grandeur and daddy issues.

Smallville's Lex Luthor was exactly that.

I'm okay with this too. I shouldn't be, but I am. I think it's possible to recast a bald older actor for Lex if needed at some point. JP for one movie as Lex is too awesome to pass up though.

The variety article claims that Phoenix is offered the VILLAIN role.
And we have heard rumors , albeit it STRONG rumors , that Lex is going to appear in though nothing has been confirmed.
Hell for all we know Phoenix could be offered the role Maxwell Lord
