Can only hope that if JP is chosen to play LL that he will not just bring his standard intensity but also some charm, a bit of the twinkle in the eye dealie.

IMO that's one of the things i'm Always hoping any actor brings when appearing in CB movies.
I know the paycheck is nice and all and these guys are good actors , i just want that same kind of dedication and intensity these actors would give as if they were making a movie for the Oscars.

That's because they have it in their minds that some mediocre tv actor is going to get the role.
As I said WB will only cast a T.V actor if all the A and B list moviestars turn them down. It's unlikely that all of them will turn the film down. This is (presumably) Lex Luthor we are talking about, they aren't going small time if they can help it.

Hell, if Amy has a word with Joaquin then maybe he can have a word with this guy...

Lex Luthor and Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot.

Wow...i am only hearing this now but JP is playing Lex? is this official?

Makes sense. He couldn't kill Maximus, so now he wants to kill his son.

No. It's not official yet. One of the trades, The Hollywood Reporter, claimed he's up for the role. Just because an actor is being considered doesn't guarantee he/she will accept or even be chosen in the long run though. That said, WB is apparently trying to get him.

Just to put things in perspective, the same source, i.e., The Hollywood Reporter, reported that Brolin was one of the top contenders for Batman (something he later confirmed himself), but, for whatever reason, that didn't turn out.

I think it was Variety that reported it first.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be awesome as the Penguin and the Penguin would work into the story if they make him an arms dealer. He could be the one supplying Luthor the Krypto tech... But Hoffman is off making Mockingbird 1 and 2 so he's likely unavailable.

Thanks for filling me in. Yeh I have been around the block enough to witness these half announcements to only see they dont pull through.

I think in am more shocked at the news because JP was such a fanboys fav. Will be interesting to see what comes from it.

Id certainly be interested in seeing what Phoenix comes up with. They need a game changing performance/characterization for Lex. A total re-invention , a la Ledger's Joker. Unfortunate the distraction of Batman.

Looks are utterly irrelevant by the way. Looking good bald is NOT a consideration. The important thing is to hire an actor with the range to convey the intelligence, the charm(?), the ambition, the megalomania, the insecurity, the rage of a formidable villain that can vie with the likes of Superman. Joaquin's resume suggests he can convey all these things, even several at the same time. I say we give him a chance (assuming hes gonna play Lex)

If Joaquin is cast, he could very well steal the show.

I've been talking about Joaquin Phoenix as Lex for years among Christopher Waltz, Sean Penn, and Daniel Craig since the days of Superman Returns.

I think he has enough range and hopefully can play the part as naturally as possible without over-acting or anything of the sort. He has been in bad movies, but his performances are not the cause of that.

Not the first time I read suggestions for Craig as Luthor, but how's his American accent (if he ever did once)?

The only one Craig has done was in Cowboys and Aliens, but he barely spoke and the character was soft spoken so it wasn't easy to gauge.

I don't want Craig for the role and I'm pretty sure he's going to be busy doing something else.

What's wrong with a European Lex? :007

And if he did have an accent it really wouldn't matter. The performance is what matter really, the accent is just whatever. No one would be wondering "hey where is that slight accent from", even in the u.s. people have difference accents. Miami natives have an accent same as some boston natives and new york natives and alabama and texas natives among some.
