No, please. Sorry.
Zendaya is beautiful but she is not Ariel. Not the Ariel that I grew up watching.
This will be even worse casting than Anna Diop as Starfire in "Titans".
I think if they get the hair right, then why not? I think Ariel should look exotic - in my opinion and being exotic doesn't mean a person of colour as a person of colour an be found anywhere - if that makes sense.
The media loves to troll and add fuel to the fire.. I also personally dislike the term POC - is white not a colour? It basically says 'anything but white' - we're all the same, surely, just with different back grounds.
When i think of exotic lands, i think of oceans, sand, palm trees, gorgeous sun sets, diverse races and cultures - a real hub. Sunkissed skin, golden highlighted hair... warm breezes... so if i think of a mermaid, she fits the bill. This is why i felt aqua man was a good casting.
Growing up in the cold, grey british isles - the tale of a mermaid is exotic against the industrial backdrop of northern england, it will have a different charm to it than say, a walking, talking scarecrow in a quaint farm. It doesn't mean it's white washed, black men and indian kids can exhibit that britishness that longs for a holiday away and exotic climates - but to them it may have different meaning due to their heritage or stories they have been told.
I'm all for getting actors that can give good accounts of the character - but i really don't see why Ariel has to be white anymore than she has to be a different race... i think if the actor looks the part, which she can.. then great. I also think the actress in mission impossible, fallout, the blonde - she looks exotic and imp like - she could be a good mermaid.
That's why i didn't mind Elba being Bond, as he could easily play the part and be that charming, arrogant hired assassin - however i don't want him cast as he has black skin as an added bonus as then that's just an agenda and i don't want politics involved.
Anyways, is it wrong thinking Arial is gunna look hot either way??
