Live-Action The Little Mermaid

Darling it's better down where it's wetter.

No, please. Sorry.

Zendaya is beautiful but she is not Ariel. Not the Ariel that I grew up watching.

This will be even worse casting than Anna Diop as Starfire in "Titans".

I think if they get the hair right, then why not? I think Ariel should look exotic - in my opinion and being exotic doesn't mean a person of colour as a person of colour an be found anywhere - if that makes sense.

The media loves to troll and add fuel to the fire.. I also personally dislike the term POC - is white not a colour? It basically says 'anything but white' - we're all the same, surely, just with different back grounds.

When i think of exotic lands, i think of oceans, sand, palm trees, gorgeous sun sets, diverse races and cultures - a real hub. Sunkissed skin, golden highlighted hair... warm breezes... so if i think of a mermaid, she fits the bill. This is why i felt aqua man was a good casting.

Growing up in the cold, grey british isles - the tale of a mermaid is exotic against the industrial backdrop of northern england, it will have a different charm to it than say, a walking, talking scarecrow in a quaint farm. It doesn't mean it's white washed, black men and indian kids can exhibit that britishness that longs for a holiday away and exotic climates - but to them it may have different meaning due to their heritage or stories they have been told.

I'm all for getting actors that can give good accounts of the character - but i really don't see why Ariel has to be white anymore than she has to be a different race... i think if the actor looks the part, which she can.. then great. I also think the actress in mission impossible, fallout, the blonde - she looks exotic and imp like - she could be a good mermaid.

That's why i didn't mind Elba being Bond, as he could easily play the part and be that charming, arrogant hired assassin - however i don't want him cast as he has black skin as an added bonus as then that's just an agenda and i don't want politics involved.

Anyways, is it wrong thinking Arial is gunna look hot either way??

hope the Zendaya rumor isn't true.

Ariel is a special case for me. I was a little kid when Little Mermaid came out. I saw that movie in theaters 20+ times, and more times on VHS. I had a HUGE crush on Ariel as a kid. for close to 3 decades, my image of Ariel is the character I had a crush on as a kid.

so, I have a particular fondness and attachment to the character.

casting Zendaya as Ariel, even if they give her red hair, would be too much of a deviation from the character and more specifically from the image of the character I have in my head.

this movie will be a gigantic hit no matter who they cast, so i dont care if it's zendaya or someone else.

I just hope that whoever they cast is ready to do a LOT of green screen work. At least half of Ariel's role and maybe even more than that is as a mermaid and there won't be any other way to do that other than CGI. Good luck to the digital effects crew on trying to figure out how to graft digital fish tails on the actors for much of the movie, and to the actors for having to act like they're swimming around with fish tails while saying their lines. It ain't gonna be easy.

I wonder how they're going to do the hair? That's going to be really challenging, to make it look like it's floating underwater. Maybe they'll use air blowers?

I wonder who they will get to play Triton?

Mike Moh!

As long as they give Zendaya red hair, I'm fine with it. Although she has a certain sass and Ariel has alot of sweetness.

Honestly a younger unknown might be better for this.

If we're going with POC then I'm all for Viola Davis for Ursula!!

Not sure if she can sing but she'd be perfect

We could always stick John Travolta back in his Hairspray suit, for a Divine-like performance.

Thanks but no Thanks.

Zendaya is not Ariel. Not the Ariel that I grew up watching.

Sorry but if Disney wants to mess up and ruin my childhood memories of Ariel, Fine, let them have it.

I'll just skip and boycott this movie.

Thanks Disney. You actually help me save a total of twelve dollars worth of a movie ticket.

I won't see this movie, but thanks to you...I will give the mouse the equivalent of three paid tickets online when the time comes.

Queen Latifah for Ursula please (or a good drag queen, please!).

Also... Give me Zendaya for Ariel too. I just hope her hair is red red (like Mera) and not an auburn. She’s a mermaid so why not push the fantasy a bit. Honestly don’t get the “I grew up with Ariel and she was my first crush” thing being a reason to not cast her for the role. You still have the animated classic to enjoy.

Oh my gosh yaaas Latrice Royale as Ursula!

In fact have the whole cast played by drag queens. Except prince Eric

That second pic looks weird with her smile. The first one is better.
