Live-Action The Little Mermaid

I think Katie Findlay or Victoria Justice would be good choices. Katie is in Grease: The Musical (as in an actual stage musical), but I haven't managed to find a clip of her singing alone.

I hope the Zendaya rumor is true. I adore her. She's drop dead gorgeous, and was such a highlight in The Greatest Showman.

Yeah, I’m almost worried if she decides not to do it there might be a backlash against the person who says yes.

I mean, she is perfect for the role

If you prefer a white Ariel (or should I say "all" white since Zendaya is...you know...half that) just say that, people. No need to try to bring so called science into a movie about imaginary half fish people. Especially when you don't know the difference between melanin and melatonin.

I recall similar "scientific" objections when non-white Kryptonians showed up in the comics a few years ago during (if memory serves) Geoff Johns' run.

I bet Disney are quaking in their boots. :cwink: Seriously, the makers of this film couldn't have come up with a more unique title?

The guy talking about the science of a half human half fish species that can live in the depths of the ocean without being crushed is right!

It's a story about a mermaid. Before we talk about how she can't be black, shouldn't we talk about how merpeople don't actually exist?

Well to bad that person is WRONG.

Would you not use the title in hoping that people would get it confused with Disneys TLM and go to see it?

Disney doesn't own the title. Other people can make Snow White, Pinocchio, etc. movies. Disney didn't create these stories, lol.

Lol, does this guy realize that a scientifically plausible mermaid would look pretty much like a dugong with an ape-like face? There's nothing about mermaids that makes any goddamn sense. NUFFIN

You think if they used a reverse mermaid, would people still complain about which race the lower half would be?

Oh lordt if I saw a reverse mermaid I don’t think I could handle her lusting after Eric. That would be challenging

If he was really serious about the "science" behind merpeople, he'd probably be aware of a thing called countershading; dark brown/grey on top, light on bottom, helpful in general camouflaging, most fully aquatic mammals (among other pelagic creatures) have it. Plus, UV radiation is definitely a thing underwater, especially in the tropics, so what in the world is he talking about there? On top of that, if we were to buy the idea of merfolk being deep sea divers, they'd have a full-body dark coloration anyway, like ichthyosaurs and sperm whales since those are the colors that best blend in with low-light conditions.

I'm curious on what the scientific objections for this was. Kryptonians are just a made up alien species. How do you make "scientific" excuses for how non white Kryptonians aren't realistic?

Pretty much the same way you do about made up water breathing half fish people, heh.

It's been years so I don't remember exactly but it had something to do with evolution and Krypton's sun...

Little Mermaid Rumor: Lady Gaga Possibly Up for Ursula Role

Disney is rumored to want Lady Gaga as part of their live-action The Little Mermaid movie cast. The Mouse House has found great success remaking films from their animated library in a new way. These big budget live-action takes on the stories have made the studio billions, and that's only the beginning, with properties like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Mulan on their way in the next two years. One of the other IPs they're looking to bring to the big screen in this new light is beloved film The Little Mermaid.

She can play Vanessa but not Ursula. Ursula should not be thin.

It's very possible she wouldn't be thin.

Actors gain weight for roles all the time but there is no way that Gaga would ever be able to pull something off close to this

I dont think her body frame would even support it. Unless they Ursula CGI.

Is she going to mocap her? I feel like that's their intention.
