Live-Action The Little Mermaid

Are there any other gay men in this thread? I have a question for you. Does this casting choice make you feel slightly unhappy?

It does for me even though I adore Chloe. I don't have any idea why I'm feeling weird about this. I saw a lot of gay men react the same way to this news on Twitter but no one seems to be able to explain why they don't love this?

Is it because everyone assumes it's the Disney version and we all identify with ariel most of all? Is there a part of us that was hoping ariel would be played by a gay merman? What's going on I wonder

Interesting..what are the twitter comments saying?

What is this based on since they're ignoring the classic Disney animation?

A play? A book?

I'm a gay guy and I'm happy with the casting.

Chloe Mortez is beautiful and has that sweet, angelic, girl-next-door look to her.

I just hope they stay faithful to the original Hans Christian Anderson version, and has the mermaid dying and becoming bubbles in the sea.

I just feel like if they keep the sad ending, it will be more powerful and has a stronger impact on the audience.

Can't wait to find out who plays the sea-witch and the prince.

I'm thinking....maybe Ansel Elgort.....since they played a couple in "Carrie".

Chloe is a good pick, but Robb or Ronan would have been better.

Chloe? But Ariel has a kind face and Chloe has bit<h resting face. I also don't like her acting style.

Since Universal is doing this, I'm guessing they won't be able to use characters from the Disney movie? So, no Ursula :csad:. Just some sea witch.

Yeah, not sure what the fuss is over but I have no problem with Moretz in the role.

This is why I think Coppola left. It's completely up her alley to keep that ending. I can see Universal wanting a happy ending and not seeing eye to eye on it. I can't imagine Coppola not wanting to work with Moretz.
Also probably why a new writer was brought on.

i watched Moretz in movies since she was young.

i dont want to see her in a bikini in Neighbors 2 and i in no way can watch a movie where she is half naked the whole movie.

Well, that makes one of us. :o

I'm only 20, by the way, so I don't feel guilty about being attracted to her. :oldrazz:

Pretty much the same as me, Chloe :csad: but no one knows why exactly. Just a feeling of unease.

Anyway glad to read some other gays are ok. Maybe it's just the people I happen to follow :yay:

The original fairy tale by hans Christian Andersen

...what does your sexual orientation have to do with the Little Mermaid?

Maybe the mermaid will fight with knives instead of walking on them.

Think she is mermaidy enough....

I noticed all the straight guys were like :yay: but all the gay guys including me were like

I guess the little mermaid connects home because of that 'desperately trying to escape your small town so you can meet a nice guy' story

Coppola has left the project? Why?

Do auteur filmmakers fear they will fail like Joe Wright?

The usual "creative differences" lol.

She left before Wright's pan was a flop so it was probably something else.

How about Sophie Turner? I mean she plays Jean Grey in X-Men Apocalypse they could have casted her as Ariel

I'm a little late to the party, but I LOVE the casting of Chloe Moretz in the title role. She is a really good actress, and is stunningly beautiful.

I wonder if they're waiting to see how well a jungle book movie is before they make an official Disney live adaption one? There's probably so many live adaptions going on at the moment they're a little scared off

What do you guys think of Chloe Grace Moretz keeping her blonde hair for the film?
