Live-Action The Little Mermaid

Just hopefully not Lin as flotsom or jetsam because I don’t want rapping eels haha

Ariel sacrificing her voice/ family for him has more to do with her being a naive, horny 16 year old teenager than it does with him being interesting.

To be fair that’s...quite relatable. I know more than a few people who would act the same.

Thank god he's not going to be Eric. Hollywoodreporter also reported he didn't take the role. They need a better actor for Halle.

Yeah I agree. Ok let’s everyone have a think and come up with ideas, remember he will need to be age appropriate

He was good in Dunkirk, and he was campaigning for that Elvis role. It's clear he seems to want to be taken more seriously as an actor, and doing what will most-likely be a poorly-reviewed Disney remake won't help his case

Pretty sure being in a billion dollar film helps everyone's case.

Tell that to Sam Worthington.
There are definitely several roles he got thanks to being the guy from Avatar. It certainly helped his case, as he'd never have been on anyone's radar without it. Him pissing those roles away doesn't change that.

I suppose, though it was quite short-lived.

Last thing I saw him in was that Manhunt: Unabomber mini-series with Paul Bettany a couple years back (which I actually liked). Next to be seen in Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5!

I like Charlie Hunnum. If you didn’t like his acting that’s fine but damn did I enjoy watching it :p

Hendery seems to be the popular choice on twitter. I’m not familiar with him but he’s definitely more interesting than styles

D23 this weekend. Wonder if they’ll have a casting announcement for prince Eric by then? It’s exciting to think someone out there might already know they got the gig and can’t say

Disney will most likely announce the full cast not just Eric. It would not make any sense to wait when D23 is their comic con.

That would be lovely! I’m very keen!

I think every studio wants a moment like when all the actors who played the avengers first lined up together at San Diego comic con

I have always held the opinion that unless you're casting a character where race/gender is essential to the character or making a biopic about a real person, then race and such don't ultimately matter and it is about who is the best performer. If this woman auditioned and was clearly the best candidate based on her performance/singing in the audition, then she has every right to be Ariel. Simple as that for me.
i don't know if we can say that based on the supposed audition and getting the role, whether that makes them fit for it. Arguably Emma Watson was a solid choice for Belle on paper and I personally wouldn't lean into that. Same for Dan Stevens.

But I think Ariel's red hair is a striking esthetic aspect of the character and I don't necessarily see the actress or even a lot of non white actresses hitting it for me. Cinderella I think can be more easily race changed though, based on I think her hair not being as esthetically striking.

Halle has a unique look in that she's incredibly beautiful. I haven't heard a casting suggestion of an actress for the role that comes anywhere close to her level of natural beauty AND singing talent for that matter. If James Bond can be blonde and if MJ can be whatever they turned her into; then Halle as she is, for me, can be Ariel as she is but I'm sure they'll alter the colouring of her hair to at least reference the original cartoon.

To me, I see other black actresses as being more attractive. Though even if, I don't see her kind of beauty as I see being Ariel, not even based on skin color, more face shape, structure etc. And I don't see the singing talent as being a deciding factor. I don't think James Bond's look is as asthetically striking hair wise, and MJ isn't exactly a winning aspect for me in the MCU (for a different reason. Personally I think her facial structure, kind of beauty isn't too far off from comic MJ, the red hair being an aspect I think is missing though, along with the characterization as I see the character having from the comics).

Halle is the most attractive and and best singer for the part.

Sooooo she probably killed in the audition. Add the fact that she is gorgeous and she is a better singer than most actresses. I think her audition most have been money. Disney is literally courting controversy for her.
