Long running franchises need new blood. As much as I have loved Singer's movies, I welcome fresh blood. Just kind of sad that Mangold doesn't sound too interested in returning.

Yeah all we need is for a Fox to announce a new director for the flagship and everything will be right back on track.

Mangold shouldn't also want to come back either. Two of these films is really the limit for these guys and we should be thankful that Mangold finished strongly instead of leaving on a whimper. This not only seems like Hugh's best work but Jim's best work - something so fiery and passionate that I don't know if there's any other character or film he could really do. He's such a perfect fit for Logan as a character. But he does seem pretty invested in Laura and Dafne, so maybe in a couple of years he could come back to do a film with her. Or at least have input on her development - work with Ryan and co you know?

only franchise I know that started rock bottom, got decent/pretty good, and likely ended off on the highest note imaginable

The biggest thing against Wolverine is that it releases early in the year. The old men who vote in the Oscars will forget about it.

Deadpool got some nice awards buzz and it came out in February too. I think if Fox really believes it can go the distance and puts it weight behind campaigning for it, then we might see it make it through. Who knows, maybe the movie is just that good and we'll be talking about it a year from now.

From 1845 to 1973, Origins did happened. Even the Nagasaki bombing scene in the Wolverine also still happened and despite DOFP creating a new timeline, we see in Apocalypse that history has repeated itself for Wolverine, Cyclops, and Quicksilver.

Also, count me in the camp that would like to see Singer move on. I respect what he did for these movies, but 4 is enough and even without X:A I'm tired of his aesthetic. Get fresh blood in.

It almost makes you wonder how F4 ended up crashing and burning so badly when they have stuff like this blossoming?

Didn't they have to get an F4 film into production quickly so the rights didn't revert back to Marvel?

Thing about F4 is that if trank had made the film he wanted to make it could have been a good movie, it might not have but we probably won't know now and really what trank wanted to do with F4 is pretty much what Mangold did with logan, a darker more grounded take on the F4.

It might have been a good movie, just not the FF movie that people wanted. The main difference being that a 'darker more grounded take' works for Logan, heck even works for X-Men, but I think people don't really see that for the Fantastic Four. The odds were against the movie from the very beginning though. Even if it had been an amazing movie in it's own right, that wouldn't really have changed the opinion of fans.

Fox must be really happy because there are going to be several early showings of Logan on (Tuesday) February 28. On 22 screens in 16 cities across the country to be exact. I've just booked my tickets for one of those showings! The movie officially opens March 2nd.
