Agreed. Although I guess one could argue that the events of The Wolverine might've still happened. Logan (or rather James Howlett) did meet Yashida before the timeline branched off in DOFP. I'd like to believe then that he still meets Yukio and Mariko albeit without the emotional baggage.
That'd theoretically be possible of course. :)

Logan has all the memories of The Wolverine, so when he woke up in 2023 he could have decided to go back to Japan and try to rekindle/restart his relationship with Mariko and his friendship with Yukio.

Oh Logan. That ol' canuckle head is such a softy.

Collider's ranking of X-Men films including logan
http://collider.com/best-x-men-movies-ranked-worst-to-best/#x-men-apocalypse

I don't agree with their ranking but thought some might be intrested.

I'm a bit stunned how the author ranked the top 6. Clearly not that huge of a Singer fan. Nice to see the love for The Wolverine but damn. To each their own.

the sword from the wolverine is briefly seen so a case can be made an alternate version of the wolverine happens in new timeline
Yeah I noticed that. I was wondering if that's the same prop we see in DOFP. Don't think either of them are Yashida's sword though, but I do think it is a pretty fun nod. I also really liked the nod to Bolt. :)

Same thoughts exactly. :woot:

In logan some might view the sword as saying varation of the wolverine but without wolverine feeling depressed about jean and minus mid credit scene happened.

with the collider list it was clear they are anti-singer.it's known by know i feel first class is overated but first class better than DOFP and Logan? even in RT scores it is tied more or less with X2.

while I like the wolverine it better than DOFP or X2 is puzzling to say the least.

All Singer movies do.

Not in Days of Future Past. I thought Singer did a good job directing the action in that movie (it felt like a modern superhero movie) but Apocalypse was like back to square one. The action was worse than the original x-men movie, and the wirework was abysmal.

And it's not just a Singer issue either. Origins, X3, and First Class both had some questionable wirework as well.

I...you are right. I can't recall bad wirework in DOFP. But Apocalypse is full of em.

The Beast vs Psylocke fight in particular was terrible. There's a part where Beast throws her over some building, and it literally looks like she's floating in mid-air.

I don't know if Singer was just lazily or didn't care.

Some of Apocalypse is fine (the cage fight between Nightcrawler and Angel, the Quicksilver scene). But yeah, Wolverine's first jump was so anti-climactic in it, and all of the Storm and Angel, and (sigh) Beast stuff in the final battle, which were supposed to be money shots yet were pretty blah.

I thought the wirework was fine in First Class and DOFP though. DOFP actually had real tension and stakes in all of the action scenes, which probably helped, and Vaughn knows how to shoot a kinetic and joyful action sequence. With that said, the special effects for some of the flying was questionable, but that I chocked up to budget. I actually did not mind since they clearly used real people as opposed to computer animation, which is what almost all superhero movies have done since.

Well, that is until Apocalypse, which also used real people but it looked kind of awful in many spots.

Anyone seen this? Apparently Jean was supposed to get a significant mention during the dinner scene at the farmhouse. It's in a deleted scene now.

From Mangold:

“I sketched out different conversations for that dinner scene and one of them went to a much darker place. Mrs Munson asks Logan if he’s married, and Charles says he was – but he killed her. Of course, he wasn’t really married, but what that then spawns is Charles waxing poetic about Jean Grey, and it’s a really cool moment. Both Hugh and Patrick were amazing. The problem was, it created an incredibly powerful lead brick in the middle of the only moment in the movie where there was a breather. Even I, with my taste for the dark, felt that it was one too many. Things go pretty ****** within seconds after that. I think [the deleted scene] will make it to the Blu-ray.”

This would've annoyed me way too much. Once again, too much emphasis on Logan/Jean, and not enough emphasis on the relationships that should be much more significant to Logan and Jean.

Of course,X2 is the best x-men movie ever.Best cast with best director.

Meh. For me, First Class is the best X-Men film, and The Wolverine was ranked too high on that list.

I'm surprised Logan wasn't number one, though.

You'll probably hate me for saying this, but I think First Class is the most overrated x-men movie.

And yeah I like The Wolverine but it's way to high up on that list.

First Class shouldn't have worked. I oh so vividly remember the days where we were all certain it was gonna be a disaster. It was filmed and released so quickly, and it was a "First Class" movie without the actual "First Class." It just seemed primed for failure and lo and behold Matthew Vauhgn mined gold from it. I think I like DoFP a little bit better than it but those two juggle for the top spot in my mind.

First Class resurrected the franchise and it deserves credit for that, but it baffles me at how highly some people hold that movie.

It was just as emotional an experience as the first viewing, Logan was. It holds up well on a second viewing.

Two things: I know it wasn't intentional at all, but when Logan falls asleep at the wheel and Laura redirects him for a second, I immediately thought of Logan telling Rogue in the first X-Men film that he didn't need advice on auto safety.

Also, maybe I'm missing it, but...what makes Charles' avocado line so funny? Both times I've seen it, that line got a laugh from the audience. There's nothing wrong with it- I'm just wondering what in tarnation makes that line so humorous.

It's funny, I was one of the few who had faith in FC in the lead up, and defended it etc. But then the movie came out, and the only stuff I liked was Fassbender's (and a bunch of McAvoy's).

So when Logan and Charles are in the bathroom at the family's house, Logan talks about him, Charles, and Laura needing to keep moving, and Charles responds that he's not a box of avocados.

First Class has been my favorite... until Logan. ;)

I know you may disagree, but i think Logan is the most cinematic and fulfilling experience in the franchise and one of the very best in the genre as a whole. But First Class is right after it among the franchise, and is easily the most fun X-movie and the one that most feels like the comics to me as well (plus Connery era Bond). Then Days of Future Past.

I like X2, but it really drags in the middle while I think Days of Future Past has the same earnestness, but flows much more naturally, it also isn't as shy about being a superhero movie as X2 is, and better develops its core characters (X2 at times feels like it is dividing itself too thinly among its cast). Of the two best Singer movies in the genre, I feel like his first gets a boost for nostalgia a lot of times.
