TMNT didn't shatter any August records.

Bad wording on my part. I was in bed with the iPhone trying to get the post out quickly before falling asleep.

Guardians and TMNT just had the 1st and 4th largest August openings of all time in the span of a week. We're seeing the viable box office months shift from May-July to include April and August. Even March is starting to become feasible. WB seems to be the studio who wants to capitalize by shifting BvS to March and now UNCLE to August. It seems to me they feel UNCLE is capable of more revenue than a mid-January release would permit, so I see this as a vote of confidence. Of course, the movie could simply need more time, and they lucked into the weekend in August. Given their statements regarding the BvS move to March, however, I think this was strictly a strategy thing rather than a time thing.

Any way you look at it, August is better than January and an indication that WB has some more confidence in this film than we thought. It's a good month for it because it's technically still the summer movie season, yet it won't go up against the huge tentpole films that dominate June and July. And August is also not seen as a dumping ground for turds like January and February. I think UNCLE is a question mark for the studio, even if it's really good, because it's a franchise that hasn't had any activity in a long time and also because it's a period piece. Younger audiences overall have at most heard of the old TV show. It will take solid trailers to draw them in. Additionally, the movie lacks big star power, although if it is a hit, it could (somewhat) cement Cavill and Hammer as box office draws.

They have to be really careful about that. Henry Cavill in a full-on romance movie might cause women and about 10% of the men on the planet to explode.

Even though it doesn't come out until next summer, it got its rating. PG-13 for "action violence, some suggestive content, and partial nudity."

I too am a fan of Ritchie's style. It is very kinetic, so it keeps you interested. I also like his sense of humor. Sometimes he overdoes it, a few scenes in Sherlock 2 come to mind, but he gets it more right then wrong. The only mark I have against him is the wait for, "The Real RocknRolla".

If they truly plan on selling this film, I'd go with Feb/March for the first trailer. If there is only one trailer, I'd think May.

I am sure that even if it is 10 years from now, we will see it. It will be one of the projects that happen, even if it is too far down the road at that point.
