To get us back on numbers, it seems MoS pulled in about $2.8M on Tuesday.

That is really good considering that there were evening shows of DM2 and LR tonight.

Better than I expected anyway.

So....are we still sure we're getting a sequel? (serious question)

I really think the response after the first viewing of a movie is the most accurate and pure.

That's not really fair. As an example, I hated Blade Runner the first time I saw it but now it is my second favorite movie of all time.

I could not disagree with this more. I also generally disagree with the premise that you can accurately judge an individual from their first impression. And being loyal to your first impression of a movie (or anything else in life) is a recipe for sketchy critical analysis. Look at Blade Runner, initially critics hated that film but it became a cult classic (and forced critics to reexamine it later) because of multiple viewings.

Ohh Snap! :yay:

Yeah it's funny how a second viewing of a movie can completely change your perspective on a film. I remember not liking Braveheart, and David Fincher's The Game the first time I saw them, now they are two of my all time favourite movies.

Movies are not people, so I don't judge them the same way I do a person. I've never watched Blade Runner, so can't comment on the movie itself, but when you say 'forced critics to reexamine it' it really makes me think 'forced critics to like it based on peer pressure'. I mean if they hated it the first time, they hated it. Doesn't mean they were wrong in what they felt.
Well then you need to get off the internet and go watch Blade Runner before you do anything else. :woot:

For me, the best example is Harry Potter's PoA. When I walked out the first time I saw it I was pretty indifferent to it, boarding on dislike. Now it is my favorite films period. My expectations and thoughts on "what it was suppose to be got in the way I think.

Blade Runner is a terrible movie. It took me 3 sittings to watch the whole thing because I kept falling asleep. A colossal bore, almost as overrated and mind numbing as 2001: A Space Odyssey, but with a crappy, equally boring soundtrack (2001 at least had cool, epic music).

I think the choppiness of the editing does seem to smooth out in addition viewings of MoS. As a film student and a writer, i have never scene a movie cut so lean in my life. The oil rig scene in particular feels like it was cut in half. i would love to hear from someone who saw the 3hr cut to find out what is missing other than the deleted "baby" scene. I have the feeling the scenes are pretty much the scene but they have all been cut to minimum length possible.

Not only does it make individual scenes feel abridged but leads to some jarring cuts like going from the interrogation scene to Superman and Lois standing in the desert. Everything for the story to make sense is there it is just jarring.

But I loved it the first viewing and the five viewings since.

MOS got much better with subsequent viewings; in fact, each time I have seen it my opinion of it has only went up. The film has a very high rewatchability factor (unlike TDKR and SR), which is exactly what I was hoping for, I would so much rather it be that than the other way around.

My only hope is the people who saw it and weren't sure what to make of it see it at least once more before passing final judgment.

This is legitimately the funniest thing I have read on these forums. :lmao:

Not only did he just crap on Kubrick's classic and Blade Runner, he even dissed the Blade Runner score. One of the finest and most influential ever written. :funny:

I thought BR was a boring arse movie on first viewing and I love it now.

I was only engaged when HAL is introduced and zoned out again when he goes away.

I don't think so at all, it's a boring ass movie. lol.
If you are a fan of film, you watch it at least once. It like Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Star Wars, Raging Bull, 2001, or Lawrence of Arabia. You don't have to like it, but it is almost required viewing. :D

Sometimes I feel for my generation. I truly do. Next I will hear Dr. Strangelove is also boring.

I can't stand Blade Runner, I'm glad I'm not the only one. For me is vastly overrated but to each their own.

Will get to CK, and LoA at some point.
I've seen Barb Wire so surely I don't need to see Casablanca ;)

2001 is damn boring, classic or not, the pacing is HORRENDOUS. Where MOS is non stop action, 2001 is non stop pacing and buildup! lol.

I consider it one of Kubrick's weaker films.

And yeah...Blade Runner's score sucked....like the movie, but not as much as the movie itself. :awesome: What a snorfest. Two of the most overrated clunkers of all time, IMO.

Not to take away from Ridley or Kubrick's other works, I just have never felt all the love those two get, even when I put myself in the time that they were made.
