Came back from PR on the IMAX!

Ok, here's my take:

1. The entire movie is just big action / repetitive action... so, why aren't critics saying that for PR when they said that for MOS?

2. Terrible dialoque... even worse than MOS... but why aren't critics saying that as well?

3. Tried to be funny many times, but unfunny... maybe made me laugh just as much as MOS did, so why aren't critics saying it needs better jokes?

4. Action is no better than Transformers...

5. The 3D is way more 3D than MOS for sure, but it's not done very well.. it's too in your face, all the time... I think the ONLY person who actually knows how to make a 3D film is James Cameron...

Basically another movie that's not as good as MOS overall, yet getting over 70% of RT????

Like I said, the high expectations on MOS have caused it dearly with the critics... the 'complains' they have are valid, but the 'fail' the gave the movie, in my opinion is just too drastic...

Its all because people compared it to much to Superman the movie and Christopher Reeve. Pacific Rim gets a break from those critics

As the owner of a 50 inch 1080p tv with a pretty good sound system you're only half right. There is still nothing in the home theater market that compares not only to IMAX but most of the higher end digital cinemas with 7.1 audio sound.

When you're talking about films like Man of Steel, the Avengers, the Dark Knight rises etc. you still can't compare the experiences of seeing them in a higher end cinema to seeing them in a home theatre, unless your home theater is a literally a theater. You're still talking about a 50"+ screen compared to a 50' screen.

As for the audience, I would actually put that in the bonus category for the home theaters. I've been to too many showings with annoying talking crowds. That i don't have to worry about at home. :yay:

As to his point i have no idea why you'd want to deprive yourself the better viewing option at all?

lol I don't I go to the theater religiously. I just happen to enjoy watching at home just as much.

There was certainly script problems, especially dialogue. There is nothing really all that quotable in the film. Compare that with Dark Knight or Dark Knight Rises. People were quoting Joker & Bane...still are. The editing and the pacing were really bad as well.

All of that being said, to say that this film didn't make Superman relevant again, seems to be hyperbole. The film featured good acting with a group of good actors and was entertaining. They aren't going to reboot the film after this, they are going to make another movie with Superman in it.

Forbes said they should reboot but practically could not.

What I say is not a reboot but a change. better writing, character development, dialogue. Can Goyer deliver that or is a wiser move to go with a new writer. Or a writing team including Goyer.

Henry is a average plus actor. To draw out a great performance one needs a great director. I don't know if Snyder is capable of that.

The next film needs verisimilitude including memorable lines (who's got you).

It will be fascinating to see how WB approaches this.

BTW, do you think WB would dare slow walk this film? It would bring back memories of SR which they slow-walked to 200 million. But its a "negative" I guess when a studio has to do this.

Im sorry but PR will not beat MOS WW or OS. It wont even beat GU2 and deadline said it was under performing Friday night. I say it will finish 3rd this weekend and then take the huge dive south. And Tobias I would love to see this letter that WB wrote back to you. I seriously doubt they took time to read your letter and comment back like they actually were intrigued with your ideas and opinions. WB is very happy with MOS and they are moving forward with MOS2 whether you want them to or not.

Forbes said they should reboot but practically could not.

Do you have a link to that. Interested in reading what they said, not that it matters to WB.

The studio is looking at Man Of Steel as a huge win for them considering they don't have much else.

It was clearly a reply from an intern. He said it was forwarded to Tsujihara, but I bet they say that to all folks who take the time to write via snail mail. They specifically said, legal disclaimer, they could not consider ideas not submitted by a literary agent. Not that I submitted specific ideas. The main thing I recommended was let Henry be Henry - that he came across as flat in the film.

Oh man, it's posted in this thread. It would be week 2 after the big drop which Forbes commented on. I will go back and try to find it.

I went back and read the Forbes Man of Steel writings and didnt see anywhere were they said it should be rebooted. There was one they said it could have the tomb raider effect. I have seen Tobias use this several times in his posts. He is hell bent on wanting this movie to fail which it isn't at all.

Scott Mendelson's piece? He doesn't say it should be rebooted. In fact, he says the opposite.

No matter how much or how little Man of Steel makes at the box office, we’re still getting a Man of Steel 2 come (probably) summer 2015. Warner Bros. has too much invested in the idea of building the DC Comics film universe to scrap their plans yet again. And they arguably shouldn’t, as they still powered a Superman film to a $128 million debut, which proves that there is a pretty high level of interest in the character.

The question becomes, will the casual fans and/or general audiences who didn’t like Man of Steel show up again in two years, or is Warner Bros. looking at a Cradle Of Life scenario? History shows that the second Man of Steel, even if it’s a superior picture, runs a real risk of falling into what I have long called ‘The Tomb Raider Trap’.

Though they didn't mention a reboot AT ALL, in Tobias's twist, he'll make it sound like it CERTAINLY does. Can't wait to see how it's going to be rebutted.:word:

EDIT: Showtime, you're quicker and thus, I will respectfully will bow down to a secondary post to yours. I shall KNEEL.

Slow in real life really fast on the internet.

To me he is saying that a sequel isn't guaranteed to make bank, and it could work the opposite as it has with other front loaded films. He's not wrong. However, he doesn't say it should or needs to be rebooted. At least I don't see that.

I said when this came out that I would be happy with a final BO # of $270m-$280m.

it looks like this weekend we will reach that $280m mark.

I'm perfectly happy with that and think it's a solid showing for a reboot/non sequel.

Anything more will just be icing on the cake!!

There is nothing wrong with the box office take domestically or overseas. They needed this to set the stage for their future movies and it will.

Here is the link. He mentions WB having too much invested to scrap MOS and also mentions about rebooting. He does not call for a reboot.

His points are valid though. Usually a well-received first fim like BB or the 2002 Spiderman leads to a big box office boost for the follow-up film.

Will WB take this into consideration? Maybe not but Forbes is on the end table of my directos office and I am sure it is in the offices of WB suits so they are likely aware.

The idea is an 800 million plus film next time. How do you get there from here?

With right marketing, and trailers showing the stuff people want from Superman, and a good joke in the trailers "Don't tug on Superman's cape dude! !!!" People will come out in huge numbers.

...don't tug on Superman's cape...dude?

right.

no, this didn't make OMG $400m+ domestically and shatter all kinds of records.

But, it wasn't an underperforming disaster either..........

if MOS had bombed with LR type BO #s ( and possibly PR type #s ), then we'd have cause for concern.

as for any "changes" in the sequel, they' don't need to replace the entire creative team. they just need to improve on the foundation they created with MOS.

at the very least they can bring in someone to compliment and shore up Goyer's writing.

have better editing/pacing.

and get rid of the shaky cam........lol

That's gross.
