pacific rim was a really good movie its sad that iy will underperform domestically
but foreign seems to be the legs for p.r
hopefully it at least do decent in its entire run

Blame the marketing, it's shocking to see that I have never seen a TV Spot aired on my local TV channels. All I had were trailers based on ST:ID and MOS.

No, that's just one guy with a broken calculator!

I know, I just didn't want to single them out. :yay:

After the second weekend drop, there were a lot of people on these forums saying the WOM is bad and the legs are bad and that the movie may struggle to get $600 million. When it started to perform well again, the people disappeared.

If this movie gets $700 million, there will be many people who will try to spin it and make it look bad. An example is, "if this movie was good it would have made $1 billion so $700 million is a disappointment". I hope you guys are prepared. :cwink:

Why would they release MOS so late in Japan?? There are probably 1000's of people who've already seen the pirated version by now.

The China and UK numbers are terrific. Were off to a good start in Australia. Hopefully that holds up.

We're SUPERFANS... we can prepare and see potential danger using our super powers.

Stupid people and their stupid arguments. Rao help us all. :csad:

(I'm pleasantly surprised that MOS is on its way to 700mil, considering I had it at 500mil max).

I said it would get anything between $600 million and $800 million, so $700 million would be great :D.

ASM debut 6.6 in Brazil on it's way to 30.3 total.

Worried about late start in Japan. May cut into totals a little.

Is that what is projected for MOS's run in Brazil? If so, with what it has left in the tank WW and domestic it may not need Japan to cross $700 million.

Next time I'm going to guess anywhere from 0-2 billion. That way I can't be wrong. :o

MOS beat TASM in China? I always thought Spider-Man was more popular in china. Then again the government said they had to release TASM and TDKR on the same day...

TDKR made 27 mill in Brazil. I don't know what to expect from them.

hard to believe that MOS has only been out for a month.

the way we've been talking about it in this thread makes it seem like it's already been out for 2 or 3 months......lol

BOM has ASM Brazil total at 30.3. TDKR at 27. Now just look at the Avengers---63.9 mill. Say what you want about Avengers but it did some incredible numbers.

Is Pacific Rim really underperforming? What were people expecting from it? It's a new property with no stars to its name. It's a sad world we live in when crap like Grown Ups 2 can beat it out, but I didn't realize expectations were so high.

The most puzzling underperformance of the summer for me is Star Trek Into Darkness. The only real explanation is the four year delay between the original and sequel really hurt it but that doesn't even make much sense to me... I was confident it would surpass the original domestically.
pacific rim had a budget of 190mill so yeah they were expecting more than 38mill opening weekend.why is star trek so puzzling its made 220mill on a 190mill budget I think paramount is happy with that.no trek film is going to make over 300mill domestic anyway the 09 one did 257mill domestic so not that bad of a drop for the sequel.

So TASM opened at $6.6 million. Do we know what MOS's opening number is? Also it already made 1/2 million in previews so that needs to be considered. I think about $25 million for its run seems reasonable.

There was some speculation of around 5.5-6 earlier in the thread. But I don't think anyone will know for a while.

Don't you think 800-900 is more applicable for MOS2?

Depends on when WB releases it. They left 100m on the floor by picking June 14th of this year. If they had moved PR to June and MOS to July, then MOS would have made 800m WW easy. MOS2 should do over 1B

But you don't KNOW they left 100m. What if it was only a 50m difference (and not even that is certain)? That wouldn't have been worth the change, because by releasing in June they got the JUNE RECORD which is positive media hype and adulation. I'd take the June Record over being just another profitable July film.
