But you don't KNOW they left 100m. What if it was only a 50m difference (and not even that is certain)? That wouldn't have been worth the change, because by releasing in June they got the JUNE RECORD which is positive media hype and adulation. I'd take the June Record over being just another profitable July film.

I think WB would prefer the latter. It's like James Cameron saying "I wish Avatar had a larger opening weekend gross (breaking records) even if it only makes $2 billion".

I just wanna know where all the people are that said PR would beat MOS OS numbers. MOS set WB records OS. PR just wasn't that good to me. It had its moments but it was a predictable movie and I don't see it having legs like WWZ did.

After the second weekend drop, there were a lot of people on these forums saying the WOM is bad and the legs are bad and that the movie may struggle to get $600 million. When it started to perform well again, the people disappeared.

If this movie gets $700 million, there will be many people who will try to spin it and make it look bad. An example is, "if this movie was good it would have made $1 billion so $700 million is a disappointment". I hope you guys are prepared.

700 million is not a disappointment no matter how you look at it, anyone who says different is blinded by hate.

Well, if PR don't do well, WB should shoot themselves for concentrating all their OS marketing on PR and not MOS... also, giving PR a better release date...

WB was trying to launch two new franchises this summer. That's why Rim got the July date. They figured the Superman name and the quality of the film would carry it to good box office numbers.

Rim was always the long shot for them but they saw potential franchise with it so they tried to give it more help with that July spot.

It's not hard to see what WB tried to do. Now, Pacific Rim isn't that big a loss for the studio. They only funded 25%, so they'll probably get their money. It's Legendary Pictures that's going to take the hit for it...if it doesn't sing overseas.

I remember a comment when the movie came out saying "the movie isn't going to make bank and there will be no sequel or a DCU or JL movie". Apparently the movie was so awful and nobody in the cinema enjoyed it and those who did would be in the minority.
However, I do think that some of the people who hated the movie and expected it to fail are going to treat $650 million-$700 million as a failure. Even though $600 million itself was seen as a good number before the movie was released.

I just cannot understand the mindset of someone that wants something to fail. I know what it means to like something and dislike it, but I can't understand the hope that someone else's enjoyment of something is destroyed out of pure spite.

These are great numbers, no matter what way you slice it. The facts say that MOS 2 will happen, something worked in MOS, and people liked it. To all hoping for failure...there's the door.

MOS board...so I don't care. I'm indifferent on Origins, so if The Wolverine is great...awesome. If it's terrible...what did you expect?

On further reflection, I'm a Duke fan and wish ill on anything Carolina. But the difference between me and some of the haters on this board here, is that I recognize success. If Carolina wins something I don't call the refs or anything a loser. It sucks, but I accept it and move on. The haters of MOS live a delusional upside down world when it comes to the numbers.

Pacific Rim will probably break even after dvd sales but I doubt it gets a sequel.

Personally, I didn't like Man of Steel all that much. That said, I'm not silly enough to say that it isn't a financial success. Warner Bros./DC sees Man of Steel as a long-term investment, I would think. They probably figure they've made plenty on the first and will make even more on the sequel now that they've updated a well-known brand/franchise.

I would like to see where it says that Warner Brothers only financed a quarter of Pacific Rim. I can't imagine a company like Legendary financing more than Warner Brothers and accepting only a smaller percentage in return. If so, then no wonder they left Warner Brothers for NBC/Universal.

What most concerns me is that Warner Bros./DC is looking to finance more of these genre films so that they can claim all of the profits for themselves. While it makes sense from a business standpoint, I'm worried that such pressure for success will make them too hands-on and far more reactive than proactive than they have been.
