I know this is off topic, but I wast sure this was thread worthy:
There seems to be a lot of "hate" (for lack of a better word) towards MOS. I never really followed any other CBM this closely other than SR. But did Batman Begins get hated on as well. I see a few post on this board that BB was not well received at first. But after TDK, BB is getting much praise. Thats what Im hearing.
Is any truth to that? And do some think that MOS will be treated better with age, especially if sequel capitalized on its predecessor's story?
I remember not wanting to see Batman Begins because WB left me with 0 faith in the Batman cinematic franchise after the pieces of turds in Batman 1989 all the way to Batman and Robin. I had no idea who Christopher Nolan was, and quite frankly didn't give a **** about the Batman franchise, aside from the animated series and comic books. (Though people closest to me were hyped because of Memento and Insomnia that they thought Nolan could take the Batman mythos to a whole 'nother level). I finally watched it on TV in 2008 prior to The Dark Knight, and I absolutely hated it (nonlinear story structure, certain cringeworthy dialogue and poor action took me out of it at first).
It wasn't until I watched The Dark Knight that I gained newfound appreciation for Nolan's Batman. I loved the film for it's psychological complexity, character interaction, and ofc the most iconic Joker to date (I'm in the minority who believes Burton's Joker was disrespectful to the canon). I bought the DVD, and realized that Nolan's take on the character was actually the deconstruction of Bruce Wayne and how he handled his traumatic moment of witnessing his parents' deaths. I realized that Nolan handled Bruce Wayne and Batman as if they were on a journey to rediscover the will to live...and as long as Bruce had Batman, he had a purpose in his life, and without Batman, Bruce was akin to a crippled man without his wheelchair.
After I saw TDKR (multiple times on DVD...something about that film just strikes me emotionally), I finally picked up Batman Begins on the discount pile and watched it without my preconceived notions of the Batman franchise and I was blown away by how fantastic the story was, and how fleshed out Bruce Wayne was compared to the pieces of turds in the 90s. I realized how wrong I was for hating the film, and gained newfound appreciation for the trilogy.
Point is: People hating MOS may have the same experience I had with BB provided that the sequel blows our mind as well as the conclusion (perhaps even more so if World's Finest and Justice League come into play). Ironically, I loved Goyer's take on Superman as being an alien that struggles to fit into society. I was kind of baffled how people just accepted Superman (in the comics and film) rather than question his motives. It's all about letting go of preconceived notions.
