Of course they wished it had better legs. We all did. But are they really that surprised it didn't hold better than it did when they gave it a medicore release date, with big films coming out the next three weeks that were going to take it's business and screens away.
And if Warner Studios really expected MOS to make a billion dollars WW, something completely unheard of for a reboot and coming off of a lackluster film that was deemed unsatisfactory by the GA, then they are more out of touch with reality then I thought.

I totally agree with you. WB is too arrogant in its evaluation of movies. Especially it's comic book movies

I thought Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises were both bad movies but for TOTALLY different reasons altogether.

But if you're asking me which one I'd rather watch, then it's Rises.

Not sure if I really have a top 5. I don't really "rank" movies because that implies you can't ever change your mind. Movies shouldn't be ranked or scored, they should be discussed.

That explains a lot and I don't mean that negatively. But why you think MOS is a "flaming pile of dog ****". I'm sure you hold that movie in great esteem or consider it be near perfect for you to have it as tops. I'm guessing you are more old school. Maybe with Batman 89 as well?

I'll also go further to say, every single one of my top 5 superhero movie (or movies full stop when I think about it) the main protagonist has had a strong second character to bounce off.

Batman for me is a bonus both in regards to BO and narrative. I have no idea what people are complaining about to be honest. I bet all the themes you wanted explored at the end of MoS get explored in the new movie, I will be staggered if they aren't.

Like all things surrounding MOS, detractors are not missing a single opportunity to make a point, take a point and blow it up to it's logical and illogical conclusion.

The BO thread is ripe with this sort of thing. I don't blame them though, just seems if they put their energy into more objective goals, all things surrounding mos wouldn't be so hyperbolic.

Well then that's a different discussion altogether. There are some movies I just can't view objectively because no matter what I'll always see them through the eyes I first saw them as a child. Faults and all.

So if I had to tell you my five FAVORITE superhero movies? Hmmm.... tough. I know for a fact that Superman and Batman '89 are definitely #1 and #2. Like I said there's just nothing I could do about that. And then you probably got Superman II in there somewhere, and I'm sure this one is really gonna get people... maybe even Batman Returns. I'm sure you could see a pattern forming here. These are all movies I were exposed to prior to an age where I started watching movies critically.

So if we can exclude those for a moment. I guess the first Iron Man is up there. That's a definite. Probably Spiderman 2. Even though Nolan does things that annoy me to no end and I have a lot of problems with it... The Dark Knight has to be up there. I kind of enjoyed Captain America until the third act. Avengers is probably in the discussion just because of how much damn fun it was.

It's hard man. I can't really rank them. Of the recent crop of superhero movies? Meaning post- X-Men? I gotta give the "best" nod to either Iron Man or Spiderman 2.

Contrary to what a lot of people would believe, it has absolutely nothing to do with the treatment of the character or how unlike Donner it was. See a lot of people just assume if you didn't like MOS, you're just an old foggety who lives in the past and just couldn't wrap your head around the idea of a new Superman. I'm not 50 years old. I'm only 28. I was more than ready for a new take on Superman. MOS was the most excited I had ever been for a movie, on par with Episode I. Probably even more.

I hated MOS cause I thought it was awful film, pure and simple.

Yea, I figured once you went with the original Superman that you would keep it more old school with Superman 2, Batman 89 and Batman Returns. I love those as well with the exception of Superman 2 which I think is good but not great.

I don't think he can which is fine though because I consider SM2 one of the best in the genre. I enjoyed TASM quite a bit and I'm liking what I see so far for its sequel though.

Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-man film we've received.
I don't think Marc Webb is going to give us a better one.

Except the last part, I think of all the Spider-Man films this one has the potential to beat SM2. If not, the following 2 movies if they ever get the balls to incorporate the Sinister 6.
