Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - - - - - Part 14

The evidence points to plans to include Batman in the sequel before the film was released. I see no evidence that this is at all a reaction to box office performance. They had the Wayne Enterprises satalite in the film. They almost certainly were working with Batman in the script before MOS was released.

Snyder says in comic con, when revealing Batman, that they do not have a script yet... He said that after MOS opened, they had to scour the comics to see what they can do with MOS 2..

It all sounds very last minute to me... I think if they had more concrete plans to include Batman, they would have had 'more of bat' in MOS 1...

Anyways, this is a case that no one really knows what goes on behind the scene.. to me, it just sounds like they needed Batman to ensure MOS 2 survives and that it doesn't fall into the Tomb Raider effect...

And I must say, it's a brilliant move, regardless of how it went down... Unless, of course, Goyer screws it up at the script level... (I would truly hate it if they dumb down Superman, make him seem totally incompetent while Batman becomes the Brilliant guy vs the dumb supe'... if that happens, i am going to lose faith in the Justice League project...

But MOS does have a built-in audience. They have the comic book readers, the watchers of TV shows, the readers of Superman novels and all other people exposed to Superman. Plus, they have the draw back of having people already having seen Superman on film.

They differ from Harry Potter and Twilight (and LOTR) in not directly adapting the story line from the books, but they still have a built in audience. Of course, 75 years of comic books that have rebooted at least twice are a bit different than say 7 novels that have one author, but there still is a built in audience.

The type of built in audience for Potter and Twilight far differs than any big name superhero. That's why the midnight numbers for those two franchises are so huge.

Still think it'll crack $700M WW?

At this point I would say highly unlikely. It's amazing how quickly it's BO performance hit the skids. It might make $655-60 million without Japan, but I really dont see it making $40 million more in that market.Still with merchandising, tie ins with hamburger chains etc and DVD / Bluray sales, cable rights WB will be laughing all the way to the bank. I suppose it's possible that it might get a limited rerelease in IMAX early 2014 if it gets a few Oscar nominations (technical, score etc) but I'm not going to be holding my breath for that to happen.

I believe if Mortal Instruments: City of Bones does poorly then they will bring MoS back for one week in IMAX.

Latest box office:

Budget: $225,000,000

Domestic: $286,807,505 as of Jul. 28, 2013 (44.5%)
+ Foreign: $357,050,000 as of Jul. 28, 2013 (55.5%)

= Worldwide: $643,857,505

In Release: 45 days / 6.4 weeks

Are you Tobias resurrected? MOS did not and would not suffer from the Tomb Raider effect. I know that many of you out there want to blame WOM and that it was top heavy. It did have a huge opening weekend true, but it didnt get a chance to stabalize because there was new competition out week after week. Twilight and Potter are both examples of HUGE franchises that had HUGE opening weekends and then had 2nd week drops comparable to MOS. MOS would not have been as bad had it not been for WWZ being much better than anticipated. Batman is in this movie because WB wants a JLA movie and they want to get Batman back on the big screen. This is a WIN/WIN for Superman fans, Batman fans, and fans of both.

Yea it was ridiculous the amount of money those movies make at midnight. I think A2 might come close to Potter's record. If A2 cant beat it then I am not sure if Superman/Batman movie can.

I am hoping that Snyder will do a MOS extended cut. I heard he left hours of footage on the floor and some of that footage might have added more depth that people were complaining about or helped the pacing. I for one would watch a 3 to 4 hour MOS movie. I love detailed movies and I think it might not come out right away but its something fans would love to see for sure.

And MU n DM2. Kids chose those movies over MOS. parents have to follow.

Just got these GIANTS in... They are for my new underground, basement home theater with 11 feet wide screen.

The front speakers are 110lbs each (left, center, right), the subwoofer is a 200 lbs behemoth. They are all able to get to above 133 dB of sound pressure. Hopefully I can get to Imax sound quality....

And hopefully I can get my HT set up in time for MOS's bluray... then I can get those friends of mine that missed it to properly enjoy it the way it's meant to be enjoyed...

Note: My TV is 60 inches here (for size comparisons)

Me too.. it would be awesome if he has the footage to extend those flashbacks, especially...

Just stop it ok.. just calling people Tobias when they don't agree with you is ridiculous at the very least...

If you had read any of my posts from the beginning, you'll know I am the opposite of Tobias (with my 1 Billion dollar prediction of MOS)...

But, even then, I actually liked tobias (he's negative on MOS, but he's a gentleman and he's entitled to his opinion), unlike you... for instance.. a true troll... name calling and all... :cmad:

Robot, you're going to blow your hearing out before you hit 40.

Too late.. .I have already crossed 40... remember, I am a product of the 70s.. and that's why such a big Superman Fan... :oldrazz:

I love how people throw around the word TROLL. because someone has an opinion different than you doesnt make them a troll. I said what I said because you mirror his Tomb Raider jargon when he was the one who brought that up. he preached it constantly and now I see you jumping on board with it as well. Would anyone in here even be talking about Tomb Raider effect had Tobias not preached into our minds day in and day out? Highly unlikely!!! Doesnt make me a troll, not in the least. I am glad you supported Superman and wanted it to make 1B. But I have seen plenty of your negative hating posts about this movie. I see how you turn tide when the negative people come in and you follow suit. I have defended this movie from day and been true to my word.

And I am a realist.. not a religious fanatic.. I go change my mind many times when facts changes... that's science... if you want to hang on to your beliefs then so be it.. but stop calling ppl names...

what name did I call you? If you said it first then I stand corrected. I thought Tobias was the one who was spreading that nonsense around. I dont recall ever calling you a name but if I did my apologies as well.

You're not allowed to say anything critical of MOS box office. :cwink:

You just called me 'tobias'... anyways, let's move on.. these forum fights are childish.. and we're all here for Superman.. we may not agree on everything... and we don't have to...

You're not allowed to say anything critical of MOS box office. :cwink:

It seems so...

Reminds me of the dark religious days.. when people get hanged for having an opinion...

There is a stigma around Superman. Many people think he is too powerful, and thus boring. Also with SR we saw that a Superman film really can be boring. MOS has to deal with the negative impact of SR.

Many of them think that way but that's because they don't know the character's great things...

Really? It's been overwhelming critical since June 20th, haha. I'm proud of MOS's recovery after that second week free-fall. It could of been GL ugly but that wasn't the case.

MOS dusted itself off and stabilized itself on its own merits while getting cut off with competition week by week. It still brought in the money it was supposed to. In the end, that's all that matters. It's a success.

It really only sort of stablized it's 3rd week. It's 4th week got the July 4 boost so that relatively average drop was not completely on it's own merits. After that the drops have been near 60%, which is terrible. I really thought it could reach 300, and it would have if it did stabilize to around 50% drops after the 4th week but it couldn't even do that.
