MoS is in third place domestic and worldwide...will drop to 4th in the latter soon too.

Man of Steel will settle in 4th place for the year domestic, yes. Catching Fire will out-gross it. Hell, that will win the year.

That's not internationally though is it, only domestic?

Yup that's right.
But despite the importance of international markets, the domestic summer is still looked at as the main way to gauge a summer movie's success (I don't agree with that personally but what do I know!)

Overall MOS will end up with a 650-660 mill WW putting at 5th biggest world wide (behind IM3, fast 6, DM2 and MU all of which are sequels or a prequel in the latter's case).

Aside from ASM, superman is the only reboot to break the 600 mill mark so I think its quite a victory.

Catching Fire and Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug will outearn it worldwide too.

Still a chance its drops to 5th or 6th domestically.

Maybe the second Hobbit. But I don't see it. I expect it to go down from Unexpected Journey.

Man of Steel is obviously the summers break out hit. It is humorous to see everyone going ape over the far more expensive WWZ grossing far less money.

so has anyone else read the rumor that Tyler hoEchlin in is going to be the new Batman

wwz cost 190mill mos cost 225mill so how is it far more expensive?

WWZ's budget apparently exceeded the 200 (and quite abit more if reports are to be believed) but the film is a very solid hit IMO with a much bigger than expected opening (projections were in the 40-45 mill range) and solid legs, not bad at all for an original property whose movie had a very troubled production history.
Haven't seen the movie yet, do any of you guys (gals) recommend it?

Well if MOS finishes 3rd or 4th or even 5th with Hunger Games 2 and Hobbit coming out that's still great cause everything above it will be a sequel.

Anyone else wonder the Batman v Superman only came about because MoS wasn't as big a hit as the studio had hoped for?

It would have had to have been in motion long before, but it is no doubt one side of WB's fiscal thinking. What will the floor be for BvS? $750M? $1B?

Me thinks it may have jumped the queue.

Sigh, here is a quote by David Goyer during comic con: "We're already in pre-production," he revealed… despite the project only being confirmed shortly before the release of 'Man of Steel'.

Honestly I will say this one more time WB wouldn't have hired the same team that did MOS if they weren't satisfied with the film's performance. Nuff said!
The studio was clear that if MOS is successful then it would serve as a launching pad for the DC universe, which is happening.
To go up against Avengers, star wars and lets not forget bond and finding nemo sequel in what is now recognized as one of the biggest and potentially most lucrative box office year (2015) in years WB needs their top guns. Despite its devisive nature, MOS's sequel has potential to do big box office numbers but I don't think anyone would fool themselves into thinking that it would stand a chance against avengers 2 or starwars, its a fact and there is no shame on superman or MOS to admit as much.
Lastly people are looking at this like "oh WB needs batman to save superman!" which is funny since batman's acclaimed reboot (BB) didn't get any where near the numbers that superman's reboot has. Make no mistake WB needs superman to rev up interest in their potential Batman reboot, which will have a serious mountain to climb (it will take audiences a long time to get over Nolan and his magic touch) and by attaching batman to a superman sequel it would feel much less forced.

That quote really doesn't prove or disprove anything. That could be in reference to a follow up movie not specifically a BvS film.

what did the Studio hope? Did they ever say what numbers they were expecting for a REBOOT?

if it was 1 Billion i`m happy it didnt make that much! you know why? because alot of studios kind of expect their movies to make 1 Billion and if it doesnt its a failure!?... lol

yes it`s superman, but it came after Superman returns, many think superman is lame because he is so strong. Nobody can relate to him. There are many reasons people dont like him.

Avengers made that much money because it combined fans of 3 movies ! ironman, Captain America and Thor ! all 3 of them didnt make a Billion as a stand alone movie but superman has to do it right away? lol

Man of Steel had tough competition after the release. So many movies came out people wanted to see. 2 great animation movies, WWZ was a surprise. If it wasnt for that MOS would have passed the 300 Million domestic mark! It took the audience from MOS.
